The Shake I am using

Tuesday, January 10, 2012

This is the shake I am using.. I get it at Walmart and it is pretty tasty (the vanilla) so far. I am supposed to drink 4 a day and I hope by the weeks end I am doing that-- 3 is easy 4 is harder.

I have never heard of that, I, too, take a healthy shake in at least once a day when I am in control of my habits. It really helps with vitamins and so on. Good for you! I will check this out in Wally world!

Hugs,

K

    Tracy~
How much does this protein cost at Walmart. I get one from a place that has all that stuff for weight builders. I started on it b/c I heard that the only way to lose weight is to start your day with at least 30 grms of protein. I was never anywhere near that with eating and with eating the calories are to high.

I have lost like 25 pounds since Aug. about 5 pounds a month. Some more and some less but I am so happy with my new plan.

Good for you for doing what you need to get this done. The excess weight is just a killer and you will feel so much better when you get down to where you want to be.

Thanks Tracy for showing us the picture of the kind you are using. I get mine from Sam's, but yours has a lot more protein! I bet you don't get hungry with all this protein! You are doing GREAT my friend! :)

Really getting the hang of this!

Tuesday, January 10, 2012

So I have been sticking with it and I KNOW I CAN do what I need to do! Tonight for dinner I am having baked fish and some salad.. breakfast was yogurt and an apple and a shake-- I went to bed then woke to go to the Dr and had a shake and yogurt with cucumbers when I got home.. when I cam into work I had a shake and some oatmeal. I have a shake for the early morning and will probably have some veggies and apple when I go home.. I am trying to stick to a routine-- still need to get in 4 shakes a day been doing 3.

As a low carber, I know that staying away from pasta, bread, potatoes and rice is really, really hard. When my DH has pasta, I usually have spaghetti squash with a little tomato sauce. You could try that with a little chicken thrown in. You can do it Tracy! Every day brings you closer to your surgery and better health.

The DIET!

Tuesday, January 03, 2012

So here it is the new year and I am getting ready to start my new meal plan for the pre-surgical diet to get 50 pounds off... here it is:

*v8 or tomato juice
*oatmeal or cream of wheat
*unsweetened applesauce
*NONfat yogurt, greek yogurt, lite (with no chunks of fruit and only sugar free)
*veggies
*ff/sf pudding
*sf jello
3-4 protein shakes a day at least 2 made with skim milk

Also they said one meal a day I can have lean protein (pork, chicken, fish eggs)

I am supposed to take in about 1,000 calories--I will track it just like I do regular food. I am sure I will make dip for the veggies with the greek yogurt and herbs, I will also eat cucumbers and yogurt-- YUMMY!

There is also a broth I can use to steam my veggies in called UNJURY .. I will make the most of this since I will be on it a while I am sure.

also 64 oz of water a day then additional caffeine free, sugar free non carbonated beverages

Wish me luck!

I started doing the pre-op diet for gastric sleeve as well, needless to say, it has it's moments. I know now that I can stick to this. The other thing I did to get myself ready for surgery post-op is to purchase a sippy cup (Nalgene sports cup, pink) to train myself to sip, sip, sip water regularly. I go everywhere with it, average 8-10 oz an hour. Dehydration is a real threat after this surgery, so starting now is important. Hugs, and best of wishes...

Why Surgery?

Well I had lost 102 pounds as of February-- then they increased my insulin-- I gained 65 back and have been struggling to get it off... Like yo-yoing is good for my heart?? I think not!

Why not exercise the weight away? No cartilage in one knee since 83 so bone on bone and they are flat-- need a replacement, and torn cartilage in the other. I also have asthma which shortens my activity time.

Then there are the other questions about the loose skin-- WHO CARES I need to drop about 250-300 pounds-- it in not anything I want to worry about now-- I know my insurance will cover the cost.

Why did it take me so long? Well they did not have a hospital withing my network that had a good Dr to do the surgery and to pay 20% of a hospital bill that I could not afford nor pay the out of network cost for a Dr.. plus I needed to look into the surgery and see how others have done.

I just want to be here longer and be able to enjoy my life.

Don't worry about the loose skin. I can tell you from experience, even if you lost it without surgery, you'd still have loose skin. My inner thighs look like deflated elephant trunks! lol Not to mention these wings I call upper arms. :P
Good luck to you on your surgical journey. Hopefully once some more of the weight is gone, it'll be less painful to work out on your knees.
Keep us posted!

I know how frustrating it is to try to explain why you can't lose the weight or keep it off, and they'll never understand anyways.
You just can't. period.

Don't fret over the negative comments, you are doing what is best for you. I wish I had the option here but in my part of the country one must travel very far and it is not covered by medical insurance or any type of coverage other than the hospital bed but the surgery is not covered. When I have asked my Dr he keeps saying you need at least 12,000.00 The system complains about the strain of obesity and the complications but they do not make some of the options affordable. Good luck and thank you for sharing. Happy New Year to you and your family. emoticon

As for lose skin, the only way to not have that is to not lose the weight -- not an option!

Tracy, each of us must do what is best for ourselves. Some people have success with joining groups such as Weight Watchers, while others follow the programs that provide meals, such as Jenny Craig. Some people 'go it alone,' while others use a buddy-system for support. And some people have surgery of one kind or another.

It sounds as tho you've done some research, spent time consulting various sources for information, and explored alternatives. I believe attitude has a lot to do with the success of any method you use. To me, you've reached the point where you're ready.

I'm wishing you all success, hon, and keep us posted - everyone's journey encourages us all, no matter which routes we take!

emoticon

p.s. Loose skin? Hah. If you're old enough and you've lost enough weight, you're gonna have loose skin no matter how you've reduced. Forget tightening it up - without the collagen and elasticity of youth, nothing short of surgery will put it back where it belongs. If I got rid of the loose skin I have, I'd lose at least 10 pounds in an instant.
