Still have coworkers without power

Tuesday, August 30, 2011

As far as the operators go we still have a few without power... nobody sustained real damage so it is a good thing! I know all of their families are safe too as well as their pets... MY Lucifurr is still a little freaked out and very clingy! I am sure he will get over it. I guess the winds bothered him-- his ears keep moving like antennae catching every sound.

Glad to hear that all your coworker's families are okay... and their pets!

Our Runt (over 20 lb male, lion-looking) is a scaredy cat.. he runs to the basement when it thunders or around 4th of July (and when the vacuum starts, and a group of people come over!).

Interesting name: Lucifurr!

Ouch, Tracy - I can't even begin to imagine the concept of being forced out of one's home over this as I've never had to deal with that.....

I'm inland a bit (Somerset) and so far it's been a mostly rain event - some winds but nothing to really fret over (and I have trees around).....am close to two notorious flood-prone river areas so tomorrow's commute could be rough - but, gratefully, power is still on (hence my AM Sparkin' and multitasking with another hobby right now).......it is so encouraging to be able to keep some semblance of a normal routine in the face of all this......

Hang in there and keep safe!

I'm from CT and waiting for Irene to hit. I live about a mile from Long Island Sound in a suburb of New Haven and they already evaculated everyone from the beach to 2 streets down from me. I was doing ok until I got a call from the town to 'be careful' and secure everything down. "Be careful", just what does that mean? The roads leading out are jam packed and not moving. We are sitting still and just waiting and praying. I think it's better to be in the house than stuck in the car trying to get somewhere else.

If the roads are flooded, you could be stranded for quite some time, and be without power for days. You might not be able to get to work.

I used to live in northern NJ and had a tornado about 8 years ago. We lost power and had none for nearly a week. We had to drive 30 miles into Pennsylvania to buy bottled water because there was none at any of the local stores. We lost everything in our refrigerator and full-size freezer - several hundred dollars worth of food.

I hope you stay safe.

I've been in a couple hurricanes and I hope you think twice about the decision to stay put. If you do decide not to seek shelter, be sure ALL your windows are boarded, make sure you have plenty of fresh water, check the location of your trees and be sure to stay out of areas where they'd be likely to fall (IN and OUT side of the house!) Park your car in an area that is not likely to be flooded or blocked by falling trees/limbs. Freeze as much water as possible to keep from losing the stuff in your refridgerator if the power is out for an extended period of time. And Good Luck to you! I watched waves wash in and out under the edge of my door during one hurricane and I did not live on the beach.

I feel the earth move

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

SO today my neighbor came over and brought us some of her awesome homemade meatballs that she makes with sausage and beef and she uses fresh bread instead of breadcrumbs which makes them softer-- and of course she adds other stuff-- I am sure parmesan cheese, egg, italian seasoning etc.... my dad and I enjoyed our little snack at lunchtime-- as we finished our second meatball, the house started to shake-- I was like DANG that was some good meatball or is it that I am so awesome that I rock my own world, lol but he felt it too so then I was wondering whether the mobile home I live in was being carted away or was about to take off to the sky off of its platform, lol! I called the neighbor who at had just walked in her door and she said she did not feel it-- then I called my other neighbor and she felt it too so I told her she was not crazy that we felt it too (well she is a bit odd but just not CRAZY).. then we watched the TV and saw what had happened! PHEW!

By the way I LOVE Carole King~

I feel the earth move under my feet
I feel the sky tumbling down
I feel my heart start to trembling
Whenever you're around

Oh, baby, when I see your face
Mellow as the month of May
Oh, darling, I can't stand it
When you look at me that way

I feel the earth move under my feet
I feel the sky tumbling down
I feel my heart start to trembling
Whenever you're around

Oh, darling, when you're near me
And you tenderly call my name
I know that my emotions
Are something that I just can't tame
I've just got to have you, baby

I feel the earth move under my feet
I feel the sky tumbling down, tumbling down
I feel the earth move under my feet
I feel the sky tumbling down, tumbling down

I just lose control
Down to my very soul
I get hot and cold all over

I feel the earth move under my feet
I feel the sky tumbling down
Tumbling down
Tumbling down
Tumbling down
Tumbling down

When I was little I lived in a place where we had earthquakes all of the time... Got to where it didn't even phase me. I'd wake up, watch the closet doors rattle, then roll over and go back to sleep. Been a long time since I experienced an earthquake though. Might startle me now. Glad there was no damage at your place.
