Gail, I'm so glad you enjoyed yourself and really got into this challenge and trek! Thanks for sharing the pics of the birds. Did I ever tell you I've been to Australia twice? Once was for fun, but sadly the other time was when our DS was deathly ill and passed away. We still have a number of friends down under and would love to visit again.! Love, Jeannie Report Inappropriate Comment |

Hi Gail, I loved seeing those magnificent birds and breathtaking Sunset. It's no wonder you are ready for the next Trek. Will it be in Australia again or somewhere else? I'm so happy you've had a fantastic Trek and are able to blog about it so well that I almost feel as if I've been there with you. Thank you for your support. If you're going to be home this welcome I'd love to call you as it's been too long since our last phone conversation. Miss you. Love You, Jill Report Inappropriate Comment |

Gail I love it! We've seen so many birds and wildflowers and marsupials and breathtaking scenery that it would fill far to many blogs to show it all but these are terrific. The chick was an extra special treat The first ? was a crane of some kind, and the other was a rainbow lorikeet. Thanks for sharing this! I can't believe its ending already. But am looking forward to the next one with all of you! Terrific Blog! IKacey co-leader of the Chair Exercise Team Report Inappropriate Comment |

I am loving your team's blogs about the Trek! I had planned to join you but personal illness and my mom's health kept me at home. (Really it kept me at her house where there is no internet access!) Sheila Report Inappropriate Comment |

We have left Pemberton behind and heading 121 miles (195km.) to Walpole. The first day we follow the Warren River and through the Kari Forest. We stopped for lunch by the Cascades. It was really gushing today because of all the rain, but not nearly as beautiful as it is in the winter when the waterfalls I hear tell, are amazing. We sit beside the river sharing some cheese and crackers we brought from town.
We passed by The Warren River Bridge that is the longest, curved wooden trestle bridge
still in use in Australia. While in Pemberton we road the tram and had a wonderful time. It was quite nice sitting down and enjoying the scenery for a change. My poor feet needed a break.
That night at the Warren River Campsite, Joan let out a scream, she had spotted something staring at her. I ran to her rescue ,expecting to find a deadly snake or maybe another redback spider. It was a cute little quokka, it resembles a small wallaby
After Joan realized what it was it was all Bonbon and I could do, to keep her from taking it with us. Kecey came to our rescue and Joan went to bed pouting. By the next morning she was singing and I fixed some chip beef gravy and biscuits which we all enjoyed.
We made it into Northcliffe, and was able to enjoy a nice meal at Hollow Butt,. After getting pass the name, and it was the only place open in town we enjoyed a huge burger. ( how they got that name?) is beyond me because after eating that size burger there was nothing on me hollow, if you get my drift.----grin This is a very small farming community. I enjoyed my first mango smoothie in the form of flavored milks. It was very tasty. And as we were leaving we all were givin fresh eggs. Very hospitable of them and so we found a safe place to carry them in our back pack and would hard boil them when we stop for lunch. We are travelling through Shannon National Park and in many places the trail is covered with water. We had to stop and get our wading boots on and tredge through, in a few places I thought we were going to have to swim. And oh my the leeches---- Joan and I kept checking each other to make sure none lingered on us. Now, that was the pits!
Day 4
Today the wind blew, it blew so bad that we couldn't get a fire lit to fix breakfast so had to settle with a fruit and nut bar. As soon as we find a sheltered area we will get the cuppa ready. Sandra is having a tissy fit without her morning coffee
and Ann wants tea.
The grounds are starting to be more grassy and sandy. as we near the dunes. I got my compass and maps out just in case. You just never can tell if the trail has changed some. With all this wind and sand anything could go wrong. OH, can you smell it. I can smell the sea. I love the ocean, the mist, the salt even the sea gulls. With promises of being on the ocean we keep going----we will get there ---- Everywhere we look is coastal wildflowers. How amazing the view is----Its like being in the wild wild west!
Kacey spotted a small ---- well you figure it out.

Another great blog Gail. . .I loved reading about your Australian adventure and it sounds like you're still having a blast. Great pictures that illustrate perfectly just what you're seeing there. The Tram ride looks like fun and the little guy that scared Joanie is just adorable. I'd love to be on this Trek with you and hope in the future I'll feel up to "traveling" again. Enjoy the rest of your Trek. . .You've had an amazing adventure and your blog about it is very realistic and fun to read. Love You, Jill Report Inappropriate Comment |
