Do Doctors Really Know

Went to the doctors and he claims that all the problems I have in my back are muscular. I can't see this much pain coming from a pulled or strained muscle. What to do?

    I had a similar problem and read up on this on the web. There are so many back problems that is is hard for a Doctor to pin point the exact problem! I went to an orthopedist and got mine straighten out. Took months! But my neighbor had a back problem and had surgery twice! Still not well. it has been 6 months a regular docor told her it was a strain! Go get it checked out with a specialist!!! Cheri

    Back pain seems to be a mystery not easily solved. Please treat yourself well - listen to your body, and be kind to yourself!

    I hope you find the answers to your back pain. I had alot of back pain right before I started my journey last year. The doctors I saw THEN gave me lots of meds and recommended heating pads. And I even got evaluated by a chiropractor and they just wanted way to much money upfront. On my own, deep in my heart I knew me being morbidly obese was the cause so, I began my weight loss journey. Since I've lost my weight I haven't had one back issue. I am so happy I listened to my body and not those doctors THEN. I have a new doctor that I am more comfortable with and believe we are on the same page!!

    Next step is to set an appointment with an orthopedist and/or a neurosurgeon. Be sure you get an MRI. Family/general docs miss things all the time. They go with the most likely and easiest to treat scenario (i.e., give you some ibruprofen and tell you to rest if it could be ANYTHING muscular). Better safe than sorry. The wise move is to get yourself to a specialist.

The pain of it all

For the last three and a half weeks I have been in a lot of pain. Due to playing sports when I was young and being over weight now I have degenerated discs in my lower back. I know (and have been told by doctors) that the best way to relieve some of the pain is to lose weight. How can I exercise if I can't even walk?
I've thought about going to the gym and just doing what I can do. But what can I do? Everything requires the back in some way or another. Any suggestions? emoticon

    Hi there! i am no expert, but i would definitely check with your medical advisers before trying anything.
However, how about water excercises? If you have access to a pool and are able to get there, this might help without putting too much strain on back.
Someone also suggested some form of yoga in bed. Seriously, you can actually do some things from bed. Again, it depends on each persons situation and yours sounds severe, but try and tap into any resource you can. Good luck

Does anyone else enjoy exercising. I know that when I exercise I feel better. The biggest problem I have is actually going to exercise. Even though I know I'll feel better I just cannot motivate myself to go. This usually makes me feel rotten. I'll just sit there and beat myself up fpr not going to the gym. Stupid, right.

    many of us have that problem of just getting up and doing it, even though a few mins later we always feel better and when we're done, the sense of accomplishment is reward enough.

always remember...you are only one choice away from changing your life. keep at it and it will become a habit you can't live without. all the best! emoticon

Pain

I've got a pain in my side that just won't go away. Called the doctor to see if I could get in today. They told me I couldn't get in until Wednesday. I could be dead by then. What to do.

Gee, sorry to hear you're in pain, Maybe when you were working in the garden you pulled something, or just moved the wrong way. Pain always hurts later on.
