Ok, so I've read a lot about the fat burning zone, and it only makes me more confused. According to the generic charts my "zone" starts at 117 for my age. When my heart rate is at 162, I'm at the top of my 80% cardio zone, so if you average it out my fat burning zone should be 117-140. The problem is when I work out in this zone, I feel like I'm doing nothing. My normal break a sweat zone is minimum 145. I normally find myself working out in the 155-165 range. Today on the elliptical, I purposely went slower and still wound up around 151. So after 45 minutes of that I switched to the treadmill (4% incline, 3.4 speed) and did another 35 minutes. The heart range was around 127-132 depending on how long I held on to the heart rate reader thing. My real question is how am I supposed to burn the fat that's already there if I have to struggle to stay in my "zone"? I'm hoping that if I can mix it up enough that I can break through this plateau that I've been on for the past 2 months!
