Jogging my way through 52 degree drop!

Monday, March 26, 2012

I jog 4 miles a day. Four days ago we ended a 7 day record heat wave here in NH mountains where daytime highs went from 65 to 82 last Thursday. So Thursday, I jogged 4 miles in a t-shirt and shorts...today I jogged in a snowmobile jacket with hat and gloves at 30 degrees with snowflakes falling!!

To paraphrase an old line " i've jogged at 82 and 32..........82 is better!".....lol emoticon

The power of SPARK is you!

Saturday, March 03, 2012

Thanks to all the supportive comments I've received, I feel like I have got my mojo back. Your understanding and encouragement has given me a renewed sense of purpose.

To paraphrase a classic movie line..."Thanks...isn't a big enough word to describe how grateful I am for your support"!

Lost my mojo

Thursday, March 01, 2012

February was a rough month...mostly due to back pain followed by dizziness. I only managed one third of my usual monthly total fitness minutes. After 13 months of steady progress to a 75 lb weight loss, I gained 4 lbs. I'd be lying if I said my mood hasn't taken a turn for the worse.
I did manage 2 miles on my treadmill this morning while a winter storm raged outside and I have stuck to my food plan through dinner so far today.

Hoping for a better March! emoticon

Your "mojo" isn't gone; it's just taking a little break. Modify your program as much as you need to prevent any further injuries. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is draw back a little, especially when we are really on a roll; but even a powerful locomotive has to slow down when going around a curve

Considering all the health issues you have had, a gain of only 4 lbs is great damage control.

You have come so far, and this is a set-back - but such a small one. You will be back on your feet and making your way again.

Good luck and keep up the good work!

    *hugs*

It was a rough month for me too, I was very ill, ended up on antibiotics which I hate... thankfully a lot better now and things are easier.

Stick with it and keep going.

and I'm here cheering you on with all the others. After all those months of steady loss it's no wonder you are disappointed with a gain, it's almost like insulting yourself! I could give you all the stuff about plateaus, but you know what you did and how to address it. Think of it as a "vacation", a time to reflect and move on. You obviously don't want to stop and give up the healthy living so put your chin up and enjoy some weather free exercise on your treadmill. Have you tried swimming as an alternative exercise? I "took the plunge" and found it very useful. Nobody worries what size you are (Honestly). Give it a go, maybe with your wife, it could be more fun than you think!!!!

February was rough for me too. I am stuck around 164-166. Been busy with gun club stuff and the weather hasn't helped either to get in walking on a steady basis. Was hoping that winter was nearing the end, but we have had some snow dumped on us this week.

Looks like we both have hit the blahs for a bit. hang in there and we can get back on track again.

Sorry you had a bad month of pain. Glad you are able to do some exercise now. I know those 4 pounds will come off quickly.
Here's to a good March.

Hey Tim, When I heard you lost your mojo I ran RIGHT over to help you look for it. Then I got here and realized that your mojo was simply misplaced! I really am sorry to hear that your back has hurt enough to keep you from exercise - and a back ache with dizziness causes me some concern, I'm not sure if you know the cause of that issue. However, my concern is for your health (uh, and mojo) first and weight second because this is a journey and you took a little rest stop in Feb. I think, at least in my own journey, I think that's to be expected. Yes, I'm sure it brings the mood down a little but, yes but, I'm going to give you one more positive! Your rest stop was the SHORTEST month of the year! See! I told you there was a positive! I hope that the success on the treadmill that you had this morning is indicative of you March! Stay positive, keep Sparkin'. We're here for you! Karen

I decided early on in my program to lose weight solely with how I ate, because I know that an exercise program can get derailed by many things. I lost 45 pounds in 7 months with very little exercise involved other than normal activities around the house and yard. So don't dispair if you can't exercise. Just stay in your calories range and you'll get there. It's not a race, so don't take temporary set backs too badly, just make sure they ARE temporary! LOL

Back on track ...sorta

Monday, February 20, 2012

After resting my back for last 10 days I walked 2 miles outdoors in 25 degree temps today. It felt pretty good and I am icing my back as I write this blog. I know I put on some weight for the first time in 13 months but I hope to be back to even by the end of the month. I hope to increase my distance by .25 mile every day until I am back to my 4 mile/ day routine. Then I will work to get my time down to pre-injury performance (68 min). If all goes well I hope to accomplish that within next 30 days but I will adjust based on how my back holds up.

At my age, the body doesn't bounce back so fast!....lol

Sounds like a sensible plan to build yourself back up. Our road may be full of bumps and even some detours, but the important thing is ending up at the right place.

Glad you are mending, even if it is slowly. Ice is excellent for sprains/strains (and very good in G&T!)
I'm sure your determination to be healthy will help you overcome this roadbump on your journey.

Down but not out!

Friday, February 10, 2012

I've been struggling with back pain from a fall I took on ice a week ago. Up to yesterday I managed some cardio most days but now I have to give my cardio workouts up for a while as the pain is worse. It's weird to sit around all day after 13 months of almost daily cardio training. It's also a struggle to eat within my target range. Hope this gets better soon.

Oh! I'm so sorry to hear this. Rest up, recover as quick as you can so you can get back to it! It's better to rest and heal than to push and aggravate! Best to you! Karen

Oh my goodness did you hurt yourself badly?

Its (still) a huge fear of mine, falling and really injuring myself...I often get irrationally scared.

Could you do some of the chair based exercise work outs designed for people with limited mobility?

best wishes for a full recovery
