One year Anniversary

Friday, December 30, 2011

12/29/11 was my one year anniversary. I didn't spend it the way I had planned so many times while accumulating 800+ miles walking/jogging and 16,000+ minutes exercising. Instead, I entered the second day of a 40 hour fast, (the last 13 hours without even water) in preparation for a colonostophy......yikes!!!
They did give me a glass of water and a blueberry muffin after I woke up from the anesthesia ....woop-dee-doo!
The funny thing is, I would not have even had the procedure if I hadn't lost 75 lbs in my first year of changing to a healthy, fit lifestyle I learned from you and SP. I made the decision to have the test done back in late October but the only date available in 2011 was 12/29/11 at 1:00pm...my one year anniversary.
Today I was able to complete my full 90 minute workout, enter my goals for 2012, and complete a whole bunch of errands.....another good day, thank you God!

Tomorrow night I will take my lovely wife of 40 years out to a great nightclub for dinner and dancing with two couples we have known for last 30 years. It will the first time in over 10 years we have done NYE up big like we used to. My wife was always up for it but having been well over 300lbs all those years...I wasn't.

"Thank you" aren't big enough words to express how grateful I am for the support of my spark buddies.

May we both be healthy and fit at this time next year, Happy New Year!

I'm so glad that you are doing so wonderfully. I know all about not being able to do the things that I want to do, but that time is behind us! Keep doing great things for yourself in 2012, you deserve it!

You should reach 'The China Study' by T. Colin Campbell. It changed how I looked at food, maybe it'll do the same for you?

Hope you get good results from the procedure. So proud of your achievements, you are a true Sparker and I'm glad to have "met" you.
Best wishes for 2012...and smaller trousers!

My special Christmas gift to my adult children

Saturday, December 24, 2011

All 3 of my grown children struggle with weight and fitness issues. They have seen me struggle as well, all their lives.....until now. My transformation after 1 year of applying the guidance and support of SP to my life has opened them up to to the possibility SP might just work for them too. So I bought a copy of SP for each of them and added the following inscription as an extra Christmas gift.

I pray they will abandon periods of crash/fad diets and manic exercising for the lifestyle of fitness and health SP offers.

Dear Erik, Steve and Beth 12/25/11

Spark is not a diet.

Itís process and tools that guide and support you to make fairly small changes to your daily life that accumulate over time and result in a transformation of your lifestyle to one that will assure your best health and fitness possible.

It has helped me and tens of thousands of people around the world achieve a level of fitness and health most of us had given up hope in ever reaching.

I wish I had found this 30 years ago and hope you find it as powerful a tool as I have.

Love,

Dad

I think this counts as two gifts in one! The gift of the book/wisdom/advice AND the gift of a healthier YOU!!! I wish my mom would take interest...she's 65, now retired and very sedentary...along with weight issues and health probs and a bathroom "pharmacy" of pills...praying that she will someday take this into her own hands.

Thanks for sharing your blog. I pray your children can gain the same wisdom and health habits that you have!

What a beautiful gift! You didn't have SP 30 years ago, but you now have 30 years of experience and wisdom gained from that experience to help you understand where people are now in their own struggles with weight and fitness. Plus you now have a tool that's free for the asking to any who will avail themselves of it...a gift that keeps on giving.

Yeah, you!!!!

That's a great gift! You'll have to let us know if they join SP so we can friend them and support them too! They won't believe how much family they already have out here in SP Land! Good job!

Passed my exercise goal minutes for 2011!

Thursday, December 08, 2011

After a few weeks of sparking back in Jan. 2011, I set a goal of 12,000 minutes for the year. Two months later I increased my goal to 15,000. I just completed 15,074 today and should make it past 16,000 for the year. Next year I will set a goal of 18,000 minutes.
Who would have ever thunk it!? Not bad for an old geezer....lol.

Bum delivery

Wednesday, December 07, 2011

Yesterday I received 2 size 46 waist cords in the mail I ordered. They were too tight so I sent them back. I was bummed because I am able to fit comfortably in 2 size 46 jeans the last 3 weeks so I thought I would order the new cords. I know sizes are sometimes different between stores but I still started to question my progress.

That was yesterday. Today, I returned the pants and I'm feeling good. I will buy local when they are on sale right after Christmas and I am even more determined to continue loosing weight and inches during the holidays....it will be the first time in my life!

Oh...I feel the pain on the size issue - the numbers mean nothing, not one doggone thing to anyone! Good luck on finding some not so "bum" pants to cover your "bum"!

I'm afraid you have discovered the painful experience that most women go through every time they shop for clothes! No "size" has any resemblance to the fit...especially if marked in letters rather than numbers.
Did you measure the cords? They could have had a wrong label!
Good luck with the sales!

Loosing vs. Giving away pounds

Thursday, December 01, 2011

Happy to report I gave away another 4 pounds this month. In the past, I have always said I "lost" weight...which is why I think somebody always " found" it and returned it to me......lol

SP has taught me not to diet, but rather, to transform my lifestyle by goal-setting for incremental, sustainable healthy new habits of eating and exercising.

So,.... there is no need for anyone to launch a search for the 70 lbs I have lost in the last 11 months...I have given them away!

I am more confident than ever that I will progress to my optimum fitness and health by implementing the plan and following the roadmap SP has given me.

Looking forward to 2012 by welcoming the new year 75 lbs lighter and far healthier than last year!

Very good attitude!! I have a friend at the Gym who keeps reminding me that I didn't "Lose" the weight, I 'Released' it. I like "Giving it away" too.
emoticonNo matter how you phrase it, we sure DO NOT want any of it back!!

that is awesome!!! I say removing the extra weight instead of losing it - because like you said lost can be found but removed - well that has to stay gone - it was removed after all! lol may 2012 be an even greater success for you! you are such a great inspiration! continue to take care of you!

Absolutely proud of you! Something has "clicked" for you and you are on a tremendous roll. I'm sure you would have trouble lifting 70lbs and yet you carried it every day.
Best wishes for the party season, if you have some tips for avoidance please share with the team!
