Mind over matter!

Wednesday, November 30, 2011

I recently completed 700 miles walking so far in 2011. About 3 months ago I began to jog a small portion of my daily 3 miles, found it wasn't for me so I returned to just walking at appx. 3.5mph. In the last several days I happened to read a few very inspiring stories of sparkers who challenge themselves more aggressively than I have. Then I watched the latest biggest looser and decided I wanted to push myself much harder to see what I really can do. In August I took the one mile test and completed it in 14:58, mostly walking (and at 312 lbs). Today I ran two miles in 24:02(at 295lbs).
It was raining and very dark on country dirt roads. I felt exillerated and had more " gas in the tank", but decided not to risk injury in the poor running conditions. I even got a small taste of the runners high (probably aided by listening to Journey singing don't stop believing...lol).

For health reasons, I do best by doing cardio every day. I know it's not smart to run every day, so I am going to try to alternate running/walking daily.

It's been 20 years and 100 lbs ago when I ran 15-20 miles weekly so this is uncharted turf for me and I will half to watch carefully how my body responds to this new regime, making adjustments as necessary.

I want to give a shout out to all my spark friends who continue to inspire me, you guys are the best!

Taking time to heal

Sunday, November 20, 2011

This week I took three days off from exercise to recover from a chest cold. Not only did I recover quicker, but I also felt renewed when I resumed my normal program of daily 3 mile walks.
This is a different experience than ever before SP. I kept to my food plan during the break and I recovered quickly with a renewed energy. I guess the slow, steady, lifestyle change thing really works!....who would have guessed?.....lol!

You made the right choice - the smart choice - too often we don't listen to our bodies and just end up setting ourselves back even further.

Knowledge is power!

Monday, November 14, 2011

Today I had to do my three mile walk in three segments. Before SP, I would have skipped walking altogether because I didn't have enough time to do the whole walk at one time. So now I burned 438 cals. Instead of none.
Knowledge is power....SP has empowered me to get fit and healthy! emoticon emoticon

Today was not my day for a walk. Work, guitar lesson and gun club paperwork.
Have a meeting at the gun club in the evening on Tuesday after work. Then I can get back on track.

Thank you for motivating me! I admire that you did your three mile walk in segments. I probably would have given up. I will have to follow in your steps. I have to learn that exercising in segments is better than no exercise at all.

Bad news flax

Friday, November 11, 2011

A SP article convinced me to try flax supplements. It turns out my digestive system couldn't handle it. After two days off, everything is back to normal.
While I was at my doctor, he cut my diabetes med in half. He told me I could be off all meds by my next test in March. Woopee!

Congrats on being able to cut your diabetes medication! I hope your MD gave you lots of points for doing so well.

As to flax, I know it has lots of great properties but I've learned that I need to avoid it, too. In my case, it gives me hives. But at least you tried it, and that's what counts.
