Losing steam lately

Friday, June 08, 2012

Hello everybody,

I really need to refocus my efforts here in June. I have not been eating right for the past week or so. I am staying within my calorie range for the most part. I have been skipping breakfast and going whole days without any fruits or veggies. I have been eating pizza and I won't lie, It taste great. I know the next day that I ate bad by the way my body feels. It's not a good feeling to feel heavy & sluggish.

I know that I will be o.k. & get back on track but I am not sure what happened.
I had been doing a lot of mowing and raking in the yard and counting that as my exercise. I have no problem with that as I burn close to 2000 calories mowing the yard for 3-4 hours, two days in a row. The problem came when the weather turned and it was raining for 5 days straight. Only 1 of those days, I went to the gym.

I think the pressure of finding a job is starting to get to me. My unemployment will be running out soon and I am having no luck at all finding work. I know that I will get a job when my assistance ends but the problem is, at that point, I am going to have to take a job making much less than what I am used to. There are a lot of jobs I could apply for but they are all offering about $5 an hour less than what I was making.

So, time to refocus and get back to the gym 5 times a week, and start eating right again. I know what I need to do and I WILL do it. I guess that while on a long journey like this, I will have little bumps in the road. At least I have still been good with staying below 2000 calories a day.

I hope you are all well and making healthy choices.

Tony

Sorry you've hit a bump in the road. Stress can really undermine our good intensions sometimes. I really do hope the best for you. I haven't been checking in SP regularly, but when I do, I always like to see what you are up to. We're both 40, and even though I'm moving more slowly towards my goals, I really believe that we will both be able to celebrate sub-300# this summer. I look forward to congratulating you! :) Set-backs are natural so don't let it get you down. Just do what you know you need to do to keep moving one foot in front of the other. Good luck bud!!!

I'm sorry you're stressed about work. That is the worst! Try to focus on the things you can control like what you put in your body and how much you move. Food never fixes it! (my new mantra) I'm sending good thoughts for your job search. I know from experience how crummy it feels to work for less than you're used to, or worth. But things will turn around again. Keep your chin up Tony! Take all of those wonderful, supportive things you say to other people and start saying them to yourself. To your health my friend!!

Sorry about the stress. I have never been jobless for long, but for the first three years of our marriage my husband was underemployed, and it was hard on him.

Sometimes judicious use of olive oil helps me get back into the veggies - it's got that nice mouth feel without being quite as heavy as pizza. Just a thought. Good job catching yourself before you went very far off track. You can do this!

I know how stressful being out of work is and the added pressure of the end of benefits does not make it any better but continue to focus on yourself, your health and well being are worth it. We all go through patches where we lose focus but realizing it and getting back on track is the way to go.

Hang in there you will get through this. emoticon

Tony - We seem to all hit those ruts in the road. Going full steam ahead could be very tiring. Try for a goal of at least 3 times per week at the gym and then light exercise at home; refocus on your food and your water; blog and reach out to people here on SP. You will be fine. Deep breaths! Hope you find a job soon in order to get rid of the stress. emoticon

May Weight Loss Blog - Results Are In !!!

I like the scale at the gym much better than the doctors office !!!
The doctor's scale put me at 324 last Tuesday and I don't think that I could have lost 4 pounds in 5 days. But anyway, The scale I have been using all along at the gym, told me today that I am weighing in at 320 !!!!

I have revised my weight loss goal on my spark page. I wanted to lose 60 Lbs. by the 4th of July.
I know that was a very high goal and I will not make it. I have added 1 month to that goal. In other words, If I lose 10 in June & 10 in July, I will be at 300 pounds ( 60 LB. loss ) That is well in my reach as I lost 20 the first month and have lost 10 pounds each month after that.

It seems like 10 pounds a month is my magic number. I will take that with not one single complaint !! Maybe I will lose an extra pound in 1 of the 2 next months, so I will be at 299 and out of the 300's !!! That will be a very happy, happy day !!!

Reaching 320 and having a 40 pound loss, means I get to open my Kindle from Amazon.com !!! It should be here tomorrow and it was a gift to myself for losing 40 pounds. When I ordered it on Friday, I was not sure of my weight and if I didn't reach 40 Lbs. I was not going to open the box until I did. YAHOO !!!!! I think the first book I download will be a health related book. Something on exercise, nutrition, or maybe a good self help book. I will post something to let you know what I get to read on my new toy lol.

That's all for now. As always thanks for reading and I really appreciate every single comment on my blogs. The comments remind me, how many people are rooting for me and also, let me know that i'm not just talking to myself lol

Be well and keep making healthy choices !!! Together, we can unite, support and encourage each other along the way to living life to the fullest !!

Sparkfriends - You all rock !!!!! and in the words of one of my favorite commercials (kind of)

" I don't always lose weight,,,,,,But when I do....I prefer Sparkpeople
Stay sparky my friends "

maybe someday, I will be crowned " The most interesting man in the Sparkpeople world" lol

A GIFT TO MYSELF, BECAUSE I EARNED IT !!!

Saturday, June 02, 2012

I will be doing my monthly weigh-in in the next couple of days. I expect to be down another 10 pounds. I will post the official weigh-in blog on Sunday or Monday.

So there is something I have been eying @ Amazon.com, for a while now. I finally ordered my self a Kindle Touch E-Book reader !!! I am giving myself this gift for reaching a total of 40 pounds lost. If by some chance, I fall short of the 10 pounds this month, then I will not even open the box until I reach that goal.

There are many books that I want to read and a real book that cost $15 is usually only 7-9 dollars if I download it to a Kindle. I also recently found out that I can get free book downloads from my public library online. Who doesn't like free books ?? I am also a "PRIME" member at Amazon, so that entitles me to a giant selection of free books.

Now that the nice weather is here, I will be doing more reading. I love laying in the hammock on my front porch and reading on a nice day. Our summer trip down to Martha's Vineyard is also a time when we like to go read for a couple hours at the beach or to this great little gazebo next to the water, where all the sail boats are. Ahhh, Just wishing I was there right now !!! It's only 90 drive and a ferry ride away but it really does feel like I am somewhere far away. It's just a different feeling there. Everybody seems so nice & friendly there. Much different from the rest of the Boston area. Maybe it's because most of the people are on vacation so everybody is more relaxed, or maybe it's just the beautiful surroundings and all the fresh air. Whatever it is, it is one of my most favorite places on earth !!!

On another quick note, no word on the job that I had a 2nd interview with this past week. The man who I met with on my first meeting and who would be my boss, told me that he would be out on vacation this week so I am hoping that a phone call will come my way on Monday. Keeping my fingers crossed.

That's all for now. Stay tuned for my May weight loss blog coming soon to a computer screen near you !!!

I hope you are all doing well, moving forward & making healthy choices.

Can't wait to read about your monthly weight loss - the suspense is killing me!

You'll love your Kindle. I finally got one even though I prefer the feel of "real" books. You can download a lot of classics for free, and Amazon often has daily deals for 99 cents. I like that I can take a huge book selection with me in such a small space. I belong to a few book clubs, so I like the Kindle because I can underline things and take notes for our discussion. I also downloaded the Kindle reader to my PC at work, so when I bring my lunch I can take a break and read for a little bit while I eat, and then sync right back up with my Kindle at home (I don't always remember to bring it to work with me, so I like the option of the reader on the PC).

weight loss & my weekend

Tuesday, May 29, 2012

Hello everybody. I had a great weekend camping up in N.H.
I got a lot of bike riding in on Sat & Sun. I know that I ate some bad foods but kept the portions small. I also had a lot of adult beverages while sitting around the campfire every night.
Bubblegum vodka & Sierra Mist yummmmm !!!! Overall we all had a great time with friends and had a bunch of laughs.
I had a doctors appointment today and found out that I have lost 6 more pounds !!!!
I am closing in on 40 pounds lost (4 Lbs, to go ) My doctor was happy to see my weight loss and also commented on my blood pressure being very good. It was a little high last time I saw him about a year ago.
I had my second interview with the same company today and it went really well. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I met with the director of operations and got a tour of the building, and then unexpectedly, was brought over to meet with the vice president of the company. I took that as a real good sign !!! This small company is a perfect fit for me and the benefits are really great. I want this place to hire me so bad !! Please wish me luck or say a prayer for me.

I hope you are all doing well & making healthy choices.

Tony

fun exercise + more !!!

Friday, May 18, 2012

Hello everybody, Thank for stopping by my latest blog.

So after 11 weeks of going to the gym, I have been getting bored with the gym workouts. Luckily for me the weather has changed and so have I. Two weeks ago, I went digging through my garage and came across my roller blades. After a trip to the local skate shop for a tune up, my girlfriend Brittney and I went to adult night at the roller skating rink. After getting home and entering that exercise into the fitness tracker, I realized how many calories (950 /hr) I could burn by just going out for a couple hours and having fun !! Can you believe that....FUN !!! Who knew that exercise could be fun ??

So this past week I decided to go digging again. This time out in the shed in Brit's father's yard next door. I had made up my mind that I was going to buy myself a new bicycle. We headed out to the shed to get her bike so we could get it tuned up and ready for riding. As I walked in the shed to grab her dusty bike from storage, I see a pretty nice men's mountain bike hanging on the wall...SCORE !!!!! It was a bike her farther had got from an estate sale and had been just sitting there collecting dust. I pulled it down and sat on it to find it was perfect in size for me. We took the bikes up to my cousins bike shop to drop them off and get both bikes cleaned & tuned up. While we were there we each bought a new super padded seat and a few other accessories we picked out.

We should be getting the bikes back from the shop on Saturday...YAHOOO !!! The weekend weather is to be sunny and in the low 70's. Perfect bike riding weather. I have spent a few hours online, looking up bike trails around the state and have a list of 6 or 7 different beginner trails for us to take on. I can't wait to get some serious exercise minutes in while having fun cruising around on our bikes.

Brit's dad had some serious surgery and I took over moving the lawn this week. I passed up the driving mower and went straight for the push mower. We live next door to her parents and with 2 very large yards to mow, I got going this morning at 11am. 6 hours later, with a 1 hour break, I had been mowing for 5 hours !! And NO, I did not even finish !!! I would guess that I mowed about 60% of it. I was very surprised to find lawn mowing with a push mower in the fitness tracker !!! 5 hours or 300 minutes of push mowing for a 330 pound guy came out to a whopping 3,000 calories burned !!!! And speaking of burned, I did get a small burn on the back of my neck from the sun. Note to self : sunblock
I will finish up tomorrow and burn a whole lot more calories. With that many calories, I may just mow the lawn every 3 or 4 days, just for the workout it gives me.

Started to get excited for memorial day weekend camping trip up to the White Mountains of New Hampshire !!! I really love camping. No phones, computers, chores or people to bother me. Just a weekend of peace & quiet !!! I will be taking the bikes with us and hopefully we can find some flat areas around us to go for a nice long ride. If not, then I will just bike around the campground as much as possible. Camping always includes a few extra calories but as long as I am getting in exercise everyday then I should be alright. Plenty of stuff to do if the weather is nice. They have a pool, basketball court, horseshoes and a mini golf course. It should be a blast !!

Hey, that got me thinking " basketball" I saw a old deflated basketball in the garage. I think I am going to pick up a small pump and the needle I need to get that basketball ready for the courts....yay. more fun exercise !!!!!

Thanks for reading and I hope you are all doing well and moving forward in all that you do.

Tony

Thank you all for the great comments !! It Saturday and time to pick up the bikes from the shop !!! Heading to the beach for a nice ride. It should be fun after 2 days & over 8 hours mowing the lawns.

Excellent!!! Glad to see you're finding some active ways to play. You're right, workouts don't have to be drudgery. Here's hoping you have a lot of fun with all your new activities.

That's actually the BETTER way for exercise to be - fun and engaging, just challenging enough we have to push a little. Having your fitness level grow so that being active is now spilling over as the preferred choice is a big bonus. The gym is always there for the days it is inclement and to get the more focused strength training on specific muscle groups.
