February Funk…:-0

Sunday, February 23, 2014

Well although February may be the shortest month of the year I vote to just skip it all together. We have had a very ROUGH winter in the Chicago area but even so I was on my game. I sailed through the holidays wonderfully and stayed pretty much on track. Then new year came with great gusto

With the wonderful incentive of my SPAT (SparkPeople Activity Tracker) I pushed on into January. I began to push for 10,000 steps a day and each day continued, not wanting to break the streak. I was successful to complete the whole month of January with 31 days of 10,000+ steps per day. I have to admit that shoveling snow was a great help - LOL

But then, I attempted to switch it up a bit for February…not such a grand idea as I look back now over the past 23 days… I was going to settle back and try to incorporate some strength and flexibility into my activity and shoot for minutes of activity over steps conquered.

So in my return this time around, since returning to SP on 11/12/13 my new way of thinking has stayed true to ~ small steps equal long lasting results vs. large steps equals’ total burn out! Well at least that has worked for me, but then February hit. And for those of you who go to the gym, I’m sure you too have noticed a real decline of activity swarming the machines of late - right?

My reality check now on the 23rd of February is that I have NOT been active with any strength training nor much on flexibility with the exception of my usual once a week Yoga class, which I’ve been doing for over a year. So what the %$^ happened? I’m calling it the February Funk! Or maybe I should rename it to the February skunk! Because this month for me has STUNK! Oh I got my minutes in, but…my whole psyche has been in a real “funk” this whole month of February. I’ve been spiraling down, down, down into a big black abyss. And I began to come up with excuses such as…

1) Valentine’s Day
2) Winter Blues
3/ SAD - Seasonal affective disorder
4) Freezing Temps and TONS of SNOW
5) Coming up to the anniversary of husband’s death

You name it and I gave excuses to why I’ve been in a FUNK and MIA here as well. But then it occurred to me, “what was different this month from last few months?” And WHALA…it jumped out at me like a polar bear on ice. I wasn’t getting outside, no fresh air, even if it’s cold, no sunshine - a lack of drive, which just amplified the spiraling downhill faster.

So last night I pushed myself to get out and walk again…didn’t quite do 10,000 steps but just to get my self out the door was a real effort. Today I have over 9,500 steps and will complete my 10,000 today. So guess for me I need to keep on walking…and walk on a daily basis or else the black abyss will swallow me whole. So I am hoping the increased walking again will bring me out of this funk and lighten my spirits real soon, because we all know the groundhog saw his shadow - so winter is here to stay for a while more - but I can’t take much more of February like it’s been here for me. So I’m opting to just cancel February all together and get on with March! How many more days til spring???

I'm with you. February is a beast.

I don't think I can salvage this month, but I'm trying to mitigate the damage so that I can refocus on March. Or, so I try to tell myself.

I love Calvin & Hobbes too! In fact, I raised a son that could easily have been the inspiration for the comic strip!

Take a look at those resolutions and be honest about them--which ones are working and which aren't. You can pick a couple to stick with and relax on the others until later.

You can do it, start small and find one thing that worked for you in January!

Rename them. Not resolutions any longer - what about calling them goals (or something else that you come up with)?

My P.O.V. is: You know what it is you gotta do every single day to achieve your goals. So just keep putting one foot in front of the other until you reach your goal.

If (and when) you find yourself in your way, step out of it, and continue. Yes, continue on your way. You are not going all the way back to the beginning to start over, you are simply continuing towards your goals.

I had been doing a bit of whining about how hard it is to not eat everything I want in the quantities that I want and whenever I want them. Oh my, there are an awful lot of I's in that statement I sound like a 2 year old emoticon emoticon emoticon

February - new month - new goals!

Monday, February 03, 2014

For the month of February I’m changing up my “activity” program. Today I focused more on strength & flexibility over steps of the past. Now I need to find a new motivator, since with the “steps” I was able to earn a GLOW GETTER AWARD. For January I was 31 of 31 for the month in accomplishing 10,000+ steps each day. This small feat for some was a movement of mountains for me!

Now I need to find a new motivator to get me through the next 25 days of February. My new “monthly” goal is to accomplish 30+ activity minutes each day of February. I guess when all else fails I can always walk it, but truth is I want to add in strength & flexibility to my activity.

My plans to meet my February activity goals will be by doing SP videos for the strength & flexibility area, on M & F, with Yoga class on Wednesday. Then I’ll kick back into the steps for cardio on T-Th-Sa. On Sunday I will allow whatever happens but remain active for 30+ on this day as well.

So my main reason to blog today is to 1) get my goals down in writing, as it holds me more accountable. 2) Blogging allows me to see it, read, it and process what my plans are. 3) And hope to have some input from those out in SP-land on ways they stay motivated through the days to maintain and stay on an active path.

I honestly am farther behind as I don't remember setting any! My mind has been fuzzy I guess.
But...today is a new day and a fine day to START! Thanks for being an inspiration~

NFL Super Bowl XLIII - bring it on...

Sunday, February 02, 2014

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Bring it on...although my emoticon isn't totally in this one, as my beloved CHICAGO BEARS are on the sidelines for this one. But with Denver and Seattle it should prove to be a good game. That is if the game is not badly officiated and that the ref's don't have the deciding factor to this games outcome...as we know they have in past games.

So what shirt will I wear to the party, well CHICAGO BEARS of course emoticon Although sidelined, they are all there in spirit just the same. But who to root for is a totally different question. I guess I will have to go with the Seattle Seahowks as I'm not a big fan of the Manning brothers. Plus I llike the fact I recently heard hype on Seattle Seahawks QB, Russell Wilson, stating that CHRIST is his main GO-To person.

Ya I know everyone who accepts awards now pushes the hype of GOD and all but, I heard this a while back and of course now Manning and the Bronco team players are also on the same bandwagon. But either way, it's a hard decision - but in actuality I really don't care - mainly because my CHICAGO BEARS aren't in it anyways!

So I thought about the color sheme of things to help me decide, but that doesn't work either. As I love Orange and I also love Blue...so there's no advantage on that one either. So I guess I will take the rebel in me attitude and stick with the Seattle Seahawks since Denver is supposedly the favorite.

~!~!~!~!~GO SEAHWAKS ~!~!~!~!~!~

Actually ya gotta' admit the best part of it all is the SNACKS / food. emoticon So I just whipped up a special HOT BEAN CROCKPOT DIP APPETIZER that I will be bringing to the party. And I do mean HOT!! So let the games begin and let the best team win - barring bad officiating PLEASE!!!!

~!~!~!~!~GO SEAHWAKS ~!~!~!~!~!~GO!!
