10 Weeks Fitness Tests, Measurements, & Pics!

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

I actually did a couple of fitness tests this time for future comparisons...
Fitness Tests:
Push-ups in one minute: 35
Sit-ups in one minute: 18
Pull-ups (Unassisted): 2
Chin-ups (Unassisted): 3

Measurements:
Taken 06/07/10 > Taken 08/21/10 > Difference
Weight: 220.8 lbs. >> 218.1 lbs. >>> 2.7 down
Waist: 38.75" >>>>> 36.50" >>>>>> 2.25" down
Hips: 42.00" >>>>>> 40.25" >>>>>> 1.75" down
Thigh: 26.00" >>>>> 25.50" >>>>>> 0.50" down
Calf: 16.75" >>>>>> 16.00" >>>>>> 0.75" down
Upper Arm: 13.75" > 15.25" >>>>>> 1.50" up
Forearm: 11.50" >>> 12.50" >>>>>> 1.00" up

Body Fat: 20.82% >>> 22.67% >>>>>> ***I think my wife finally got an accurate measure this time.***
It was a little depressing to see that number, but I believe it is more accurate. I gave her a little better instruction on using the calipers and this is what we came up with. I don't think I was close to 15% body fat yet anyway...lol. At least I do know that my body fat has gone down significantly. I can see that just by looking in the mirror.

Pictures:
* & *** Notes pictures with different time periods...

Front
06/07/10>>>08/21/10

Front Flexed
06/07/10>>>08/21/10

8 Weeks Progress, but no pics this time...

Monday, August 09, 2010

It has gotten to a point where taking pictures every two weeks is becoming quite a hassle. Plus it is difficult to see changes in two weeks. We (My wife and I) have decided to take pictures on a 4 week basis now because of this. We will still be doing measurements every two weeks for accountability reasons though.

Measurements:
Taken 06/07/10 > Taken 08/07/10 > Difference
Weight: 220.8 lbs. >> 218.5 lbs. >>> 2.3 down
Waist: 38.75" >>>>> 36.50" >>>>>> 2.25" down
Hips: 42.00" >>>>>> 40.75" >>>>>> 1.25" down
Thigh: 26.00" >>>>> 25.25" >>>>>> 0.75" down
Calf: 16.75" >>>>>> 16.25" >>>>>> 0.50" down
Upper Arm Flexed: 13.75" > 15.25" > 1.50" up
Forearm Flexed: 11.50" >>> 12.50" > 1.00" up

Body Fat: 20.82% >>> 15.37% >>>>>> 5.45% down

Still not real sure about the body fat percentages, but I have to trust my wifes use of the calipers because that is all we have...lol.

I will be back in two weeks with pictures again!

I still think you did a good job with your progress. Keep it up. I am unsure that I have ever had muscles under my skin around my belly maybe someday I can find out too.

Dude - that is a HUGE change. Congrats and keep up the good work.
I know what you mean about pictures.

My wife is no help there so I really don't like taking pics of myself. Every once in a while I will just bring my phone and take pics in the bathroom mirror. LOL

My wife doesn't really like taking handfuls of my skin and measuring them either LOL.

Anyway - I watch both your progress and I get inspired by the 2 of you!!

@TOW -- oops, sorry, I have a public skool education, so sometimes my reading comprhenshun ain't so hot. I saw the last sentence of your blog post and got 2 weeks stuck in my brain.

Ya, I'll agree, all the way around. Just good numbers. Congrats man!

at about 14-15% bodyfat you should see abs when you flex. 10% you will see abs without flexing. at 6% you start to see the actuall muscle fibers (picture what corned beef looks like)

Those are quite remarkable differences! Even though you might not be able to see the changes, I'm willing to bet the rest of us would be! Regardless, you are doing REALLY well. Impressive!

NIMNIX 8/9/2010 2:58PM

Nice work! You can probably tell just by looking at yourself that you have less body fat, so the actual numbers probably aren't an issue. It's awesome seeing all those numbers change the way you want them to.

Bill, the differences are over two months, not two weeks. To me, 2 inches is still quite impressive for only two months though. I have only recently added cardio into the mix too. And I am still very suspicious of the body fat, as is my wife...lol. Only more practice and learning will correct it though!

Mrs. Butterfly - It is okay. I knew you weren't quite yourself on Saturday morning.

That's pretty impressive. The waist down more than 2 inches in 2 weeks? Dayum! I would also say be a little suspicious of the BF%. Seems like there might be a bit of measurement error there (no offense, wifey :)

One Month Progress Pics...

Sunday, July 11, 2010

So here we are, about one month into my little journey. I have begun to see some nice improvements with my shape. I am also starting to feel a lot better about myself lately. I was a little weary of this check in. There was a lot of stress over the past holiday weekend. We had Mexican food one day, but I was still making good decisions when we were there. I am sure the sodium was a little extreme, but that isn't what made me weary. I had a nice four day weekend planned to relax at home and workout whenever I felt like it since I wasn't working. Well, our A/C went out on Thursday night and wasn't fixed until Tuesday night. Needless to say, we couldn't stay in our house because it was reaching temperatures around 95 degrees. I didn't get to work out near as much as usual. I still think it turned out alright though. Let's get on with the numbers, then the pictures, shall we?

Taken 06/07/10 > Taken 06/26/10 > Taken 07/10/10 > Difference > Difference From Start
Weight: 220.8 lbs. >> 219.0 lbs. >>> 218.6 lbs. >>>>> 0.40 down >> 2.2 down
Waist: 38.75" >>>>> 36.75" >>>>>> 36.75" >>>>>>> Same >>>>>> 2.00" down
Hips: 42.00" >>>>>> 41.25" >>>>>> 41.00" >>>>>>> 0.25" down >> 1.00" down
Thigh: 26.00" >>>>> 26.00" >>>>>> 26.00" >>>>>>> No Change >>> No Change
Calf: 16.75" >>>>>> 16.50" >>>>>> 16.00" >>>>>>> 0.50" down >> 0.75" down
Upper Arm: 13.75" > 14.00" >>>>> 13.75" >>>>>>>> 0.25" down >> No Change
Forearm: 11.50" >>> 12.00" >>>>> 11.50" >>>>>>>> 0.50" down >> No Change

Body Fat: 20.82% > 18.26% >>>>> 16.05" >>>>>>>> 2.21% down > 4.77% down

Now, to the pictures we go...
Original Pictures on the left taken June 7th. New ones are on the right.

Thanks Michelle, but fyi to make this clear, this was all done on my own with the help and encouragement of my wife and a few fellow sparkers. There is no doubt in my mind that Ruben knows his stuff, but he has only helped me fill in a few blanks. No offense to you at all Ruben!

I don't ask him much and won't as I am not one of his customers. Although, I may be one day soon just to see what happens.

Thanks again everyone!

About 3 Weeks Progress...

Monday, June 28, 2010

My previous pictures and measurements were taken 6/7/10. The new ones were taken 6/26/10.

We will do measurements first...
Taken 06/07/10 - Taken 06/26/10 - Difference
Weight: 220.8 lbs. - 219.0 lbs. - 1.80 down
Waist: 38.75" - 36.75" - 2.00" down
Hips: 42.00" - 41.25" - 0.75" down
Thigh: 26.00" - 26.00" - No Change
Calf: 16.75" - 16.50" - 0.25" down
Upper Arm: 13.75" - 14.00" - 0.25" up
Forearm: 11.50" - 12.00" - 0.50" up

Body Fat**: 20.82% - 18.26% - 2.56% down

**NOTE: We are still getting used to using the body fat calipers, so those percentages are probably off some. They will become more accurate as we get the hang of them.

Now to the pictures...
The old pictures are the left. New ones on the right.
Front Normal

Front Flexed

Side Normal

Back Flexed

Starting to see some differences. More soon to come hopefully!

It certainly helps to have the same person do it over and over to really know how you are progressing.
