Here we go again

Sooooo . . . I've been trying to lose weight off and on again for years but now I have to go for heart surgery in 4 months so I REALLY need to lose some weight before then. I need to lose 15 - 20 pounds before the surgery.

I have a real problem getting motivated to start any kind of exercise. I have bad knees and back. Any suggestions on what I can do to slowly get into physical activity?

How about suggestions for fast and easy healthy meals for one person?

Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

    Lots of CHAIR EXERCISE videos on YouTube, so check them out.
I read yesterday that a doctor in England and published a study in the Journal "Spine" about Low Back Pain as she had found that many patients got well after a long Round of Antibotics over 100 days. Some doctors thought this was to long, but she was finding patients with chronic low back pain, who hadn't been able to get help with any other treatment. I thought that was very interesting. She said this is less blood supply to the spine area and with infection there, the pain just stays for a LONG time. The people who were cured were so grateful.

Hope ur surgery goes well. I have to eat low carb to lose weight.

    Hi T... so sorry to hear you are going to have surgery and I hope that you are able to get as healthy as possible beforehand. My recommendation is not to DIET but to start a healthy living program with your very next meal. Get yourself to the grocery store and load up on lots of fresh fruit, high fiber cereals, low fat milk and yogurt, vegetables (I recommend mixed veggies frozen) and lean meats and eggs. You can make yourself a number of things such as oatmeal, cereal, eggs, yogurt and / or fruit for breakfast. You can make sandwiches, eggs, and fruit for lunch. Dinner can be a steak, whole wheat roll and veggies for dinner. I would sit down and come up with 3-5 different lunch/dinners that are nutritious and satisfying and stick with those for a few weeks. For breakfast I usually have the same thing (oatmeal with fruit) everyday and it takes the guess work out of it. Keep it simple. For exercise I recommend good old fashioned walking to get you started. Start with 15 minutes twice a day and slowly take it up. As it gets easier try and go faster. Best to you on your journey to health and fitness. You CAN do it!

  Omlets, are great for one person. I make "chili", and put it in buckets. a can of chili, can of beans, can of mushrooms, can of roast beef, can of tomato sauce, lasts a week. You can microwave omlets (veggies, mushrooms, etc) on 30% power, usually reheat for my micro. Best snack is shrimp and salsa, fills you up, nice protein, low carbs.

  Sit. Seriously. I busted my femur and was trying to exercise. Find a good kitchen chair with a good back on it. get a ball. squeeze the ball between your knees, ankles. kick the ball to the wall and use your feet to catch when it comes back. Strengthen your back by crossing your arms and roll a little forward, then roll back straight. Be easy but it is probably more than you have done. Do arm lifts, circles, use a bottle of water as weights. Hold the seat of the chair while sitting, and raise your knees, like you are marching. You will be amazed what you feel in your stomach muscles. Belly dancing in very good exercises, it is isometric. Also look up wheel chair exercises, and old age exercies, some of the Tao exercises, and believe it or not, kids exercises, like head shoulders knees and toes. like the do with romper room. Remember, safe moving is best, don't hurt yourself, walking is fine, slow walking is fine and the bottom line is to modify not hurt yourself. Hugs and good luck. Sorry about your surgery.
