ONE YEAR since reaching goal weight!

Well, as amazing as it seems, it is exactly one year ago today that I stepped on my scale and the numbers read 150 pounds! I had lost the 56 pounds that I set out to lose!

At the time, I was fairly jumping up and down with excitement - I knew it was about to happen, but I was still in awe of the moment when it did...that was the "magic" number I had been waiting for - no, WORKING for.

Well, If you've read anything about me, you know that as of April 1, 2008 I had lost another 6 pounds, bringing me down to 144. Nonetheless, I consider March 5 to be my "anniversary" date.

I have maintained my weight loss all through this past year. I weigh myself daily (well, most days), and give myself a weight range to stay in. If I start to get too close to 150, I get VERY careful again about what I am eating, and within a few days the extra couple of pounds will come right back off.

On October 2, 2008 I was honored to get an email from Coach Jen informing me that my story would be featured in the new Walking Guide. I have had numerous people comment about it; although I do not visit Spark too regularly anymore, I HAVE made a point of checking the article for comments, and leaving a note on the Spark Page of everyone who has commented. To me it is an honor to be included there, similar to be nominated as a SparkPeople Motivator (I still have the email I received informing me that I had been chosen!)

Anyway, this morning, 1 year after reaching goal, I weighed in at 141.4 pounds, so I guess my total weight loss is actually about 65 pounds. I have been at that weight since Sunday. Perhaps a bit low for me, (DH thinks it is - remember I am 5'9" tall), but I'm trying to stay here at present. My measurements? 35-26-37. Upper arms (which are pretty toned) are 10 inches, neck is 12 inches. My 50th birthday is on the 18th of this month. I guess I'm doing OK.

To all of my amazing Spark Friends who are still interested enough to read about what I do - thank you! I love you all! You are quite amazing! Many things in life are difficult at present, but Spark is awesome!

Wow! I got an email from Coach Jen this morning, with a link to an article...some weeks ago she had posted a request for people who had lost a lot of weight using walking as their primary means of exercise to email her. I sen two notes to her (because after I sent the first some additional thoughts came to mind) - and guess what? - as of this morning, they are an article! You can read it, see my "before and after" pics and even get points for reading about me! Wow!

I so agree with your Sansone walking routine. It's helped me too & so easy to do. Your before & after photos are amazing!
And I missed seeing your wedding photo below from your earlier blog...
I got married in 1980 & had a similar high-necked, long sleeved wedding gown. A far cry from my daughter's strapless gown when she got married last year!

One Year Spark-Anniversary

Wow! Unbelievable! One year ago today, for some reason (don't know why!), I decided I had had enough of being fat. I stepped on the scale and it read 206 pounds - yuck! Too much for at 5'9" tall...

I remembered SparkPeople...something I had signed into back in January, but hadn't used...I decided that August 6th was going to be THE day - and it was!!!

I began to use Spark, and didn't look back! I tracked every morsel of food, stayed within my calorie limits every day, worked out 4 days a week, then 5, then 6 then 7 (using Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds with hand weights - 2 pounds, then 3, then sometimes 5...Yoga....Prevention Magazine workouts....and a few others)

I immersed myself in Spark for 7 months...joined teams, led one...spent hours with my Spark friends daily instead of eating - and it worked!

I didn't feel the need to go over my calorie limit, maybe because I knew I'd have to report in...and maybe because the scale started to move...sometimes slowly, sometimes backwards, sometimes not at all, but overall it kept moving, and so did the tape measure!

My first thought was that I would try to get to 160 pounds...it became clear that I would surpass that! Then I said 150 pounds - I reached that goal on March 5th - 7 months after starting on Spark!

I have since lost another 6 pounds, and generally weigh 144 pounds - what I weigh today! I keep thinking I should lose a few more, although my husband says absolutely not!

When I started I measured my neck, waist and hips - that's what Spark "asked" for...
neck 14" now 12"
waist: 36" now 26.5"
hips: 48.5" now 37"

Total pounds lost = 62

Today I can fit into my wedding dress - I was married in 1981 and was very slender (I'll have to try to scan a wedding photo and post it!)

I no longer have to weigh and measure all my foods, although I sometimes do, just to be careful and to check myself....I went on vacation for a week, ate out 3 times a day, and came home having gained less than 1/2 pound, which was gone the next day (probably extra water from extra salt in restaurant meals!)...

I feel I have truly made a lifestyle change! Shopping for clothes (even bathing suits) is now fun, and I even love to pose for pictures! I used to wear XL or size 18's...now I wear 4's or 6's or 8's depending upon item, brand, etc...

Most importantly, I feel fantastic!

Another amazing change...I used to be terribly out of shape! Yesterday, I spent the day in the hospital for some outpatient surgery...my resting heart rate was 48! I kept setting off the alarm on the monitor because they expect the lowest to be 50! The nurse asked if I work out - she was amazed at how great my heart rate was! How cool!

I have been fortunate to have met 3 Spark friends in person already...this weekend I will meet a 4th! YAY!

  You look even slimmer in person than you do in all of your photos! Thanks for being an inspiration and a gracious hostess. It was so tempting to pick up junk last night after all the stress of the ride (and messy discoveries at home), but, aside from not wanting to get back in the car, I knew I could never disappoint you in that way. Now that we've spent the weekend together talking about our weight loss journeys, I feel even more accountability than before...thanks for that:)

    Judi, you look fantastic! I wanted to say thank you to you too. You were one of the first folks that I "chatted" with when I joined SP back in January and found the WATP groups. Without all of your encouragement and that of the other team members, I would never have tried the longer WATP walks. I've had so much fun along the way and I look forward to the day when I can share my one year anniversary with Spark People with you too!

  Thank you for this great blog. You are proof one CAN maintain weight loss & I have you as a SP role model. That heart rate is amazing!

I've have my husband walking now with me 5 mornings a week & he has lost some weight too. These behaviors have great 'ripple effects', don't they?!

Now only 3 weeks away from my one-year anniversary on Spark, I have decided to try to drop just a few more pounds! I am now UNDER 144, and will try to get down to 140, so I can "float" from 140 - 144! In the meantime, I continue to feel awesome about my new slim and trim shape! Thank you SparkPeople! I am Amazed, Awed and Grateful!

Imagine my surprise - I am no longer a regular Sparker, but today I was receiving Spark Goodies and comments from people I do not know...just a short time ago I discovered that I am today's FEATURED MOTIVATOR - WOW!

I bless SparkPeople and my Spark friends every day!

I have continued to maintain my weight loss, still hovering at right around 144 pounds, (typically 1-2 pounds above or below) and it feels fantastic! I eat right almost all the time and exercise 4 - 5 days a week. I am fortunate to be able to maintain my weight without needing to weigh and measure all my food these days. While I was working at my program on Spark (it too me about 8 months to lose 62 pounds) I weighed and measured EVERYTHING!!!!

I do now get on the scale daily, and will adjust my intake for the day accordingly! I have also stayed in touch with some of my Spark Friends very regularly, and I think that helps me stay accountable too!

I will post some new pictures by the time I reach August 6th (which would be one year since I started on Spark)...

My friends - you CAN do this! Keep at it! You ARE worth it! Feeling fit, slim and trim is fantastic!

    Hey Judi:) my sparked friend! I am glad you blogged and nice to see you come back once in a while and let us know how things are going your way. I have been pretty busy with my daughter's wedding preparations and we are off to Frisco on July 8th and then, after the wedding to Mayo clinic, MN. We will be planning our move there by April of next year, if not sooner. It will be nice to get together with you, after we return home! Just let me know when and where in August!!!

Congrats on being a motivator and of course, your achievement will stay with you forever just like a college degree, you will always inspire me my dear Judi. Way to go in maintaining your healthy lifestyle!!!!

    I am very inspired by your page. I have been a member since May 2007 but it's been bumpy and I am back at it. I also am 5'9 and I started at 244lbs. I am now down about 16lbs but 200 seems like a long way down the road. In the past I have not been able to make it-I get stuck and lose motivation. I will come to your page for motivation!
