Mars Attack

Sunday, April 24, 2011

Happy Easter Everyone. My husband and I watched Mars Attack this morning as nothing much was on television. I spent much time laughing as there green brains exploded when they played the vintage music. I could totally relate to the scene where there is an adorable old lady sitting in a wheelchair petting a stuffed dead kitty telling it how much she loved it and kissed it. I looked at my husband and said I hope I still am walking at 70 and have a live kitty. LOL. Its just I hug and kiss my cat all the time. She puts up with me quite nicely and sits on me when I don't feel well. Today she got an Easter dinner. Fresh kibbles and some canned food. She deserved to celebrate too !!!

My back has been aching from when we went agate hunting over a week ago. It comes and goes. When its here it makes itself well known. So I have been doing stretches to try to get the kinks out.

Yesterday's workout was Physique 57 Seat and Thigh Booster. I haven't done it for awhile and it was sooo hard. Unless you do it regularly it sure is tough to do. I had to take a break midway through. Afterwards my muscles felt like jelly and I almost took a nap afterwards.

Today has been my rest day. I brewed up another batch of hummingbird food. After they stop feeding its time to scrub the feeder and give it a refill so they won't be disappointed. Today I noticed lots of baby hummingbirds feeding. The babies need a good supply of food.

I always enjoyed Mars Attacks. When I was little it was a silly Alien Movie that told me it was okay that some things are over come in the old fashion way- even if that way makes no sense. When I was in college, it served as a fun drinking game- Don't take "drink when you see military or aliens in drag", and now it just makes me laugh. Plus just about EVERY big name actor of the time made a quick appearance. Maybe there were mudslides in California a year to 6 months before that movie came out and everyone needed a quick pay check?

Seems like you had a good night :-D

Been Swinging !!!

Saturday, April 23, 2011

Been Swinging Kettlebells lately. Sigh, my big Green eyes have been opened. No longer intimidated by my bells I gladly seek the challenge. My hamstrings have been delightfully awaiting for such a toning challenge. My glutes Pleased at the change in my workout. My inner thighs Screaming with pleasure as they kept me moaning in my sleep when ever I moved.

The workout I did was Skogg's Workout set of Dvds which has a great set of instructions and workouts for beginners through advanced exercisers. I had done swings before and kettlebell workouts before but they didn't explain the form as well as this one did. So by correcting my form and making changes I am sore. I feel the workout in all the places I should. I had always wondered what I was doing wrong before. He explains things so well, it all makes sense. I like that he works one side then switches to the other and gives you a rest before restarting. So the workout is doable yet challenging. Its perfect for me. I don't feel intimidated to do the workouts.

The Prokarin has been working working so well for the MS that I went on another brief trip to the coast and went agate hunting again !!! Had lots of fun.

I have been going on walks most days up to 3 miles and doing Tracy Anderson Workouts along with Barre workouts and doing off and on 200 Ketttlebell swings. So I have been getting in my exercise. The garden has been needing tending. It was time to plant the butterfly bushes, get the petunias planted, move more iris, and do a bit of weeding.

My husband and I are watching two canadian geese families that have started families. Its been fun watching the goslings. We feed squirrels in our yard, lots of quail, sparrows, wood ducks, and mallards. Mr. and Mrs. Mallard have taken up residence between our yard and the swimming pool next door. We feed them and then they spend the rest of the time swimming next door or perched on the ledge of the pool. Mr. Mallard quacked at me when I said Hi to him today. They wait for their feeding every day. We have over 20-30 hummingbirds that feed daily swarming our two feeders. Our neighbors have feeders up but they choose to eat here due to my special homemade food made with love. The neighbors food levels don't go down unless we go out of town and the feeders run out of food. LOL. They prefer our food over all the others. We have orange hummers, green ones, red, and speckled ones.

I SURVIVED !!!

Thursday, April 14, 2011

YUP, I am still here. Been hit with the period from hell. I hemmorraged. It made me very weak to the point I felt like I was going to pass out for a few days. I spent a couple of days sleeping as my body was recooperating from the blood loss. Everytime I moved I felt like passing out. It was simply horrible.

Today I finally felt like I had a bit of strength back in my body so I went for a slow walk with my wonderful husband that was 3 miles long. It was beautiful to get out and see the Canadian geese today. Normally we do a brisk walk taking little time to slow down and see the sites. Today was different as my body is healing. I needed to sit on a bench that was surrounded by a group of geese. It was a magical moment that is etched in my mind as we watched in amazement. Down in the grasses as tall as the green grass and wild floweres that bloomed stood 5 teeny, tiny new goslings that had recently hatched. They were protected by a group of 6 adults that stood on all sides of the babies and in the water. It was quite the site to see them all puffy, blending in to the grasses and wildflowers so perfectly. Had we not of stopped and sat I wouldn't of noticed them as they blended so perfectly into the landscape.

The miracles of the Day !!!

Lick ME !!!

Tuesday, April 05, 2011

I"M BACK !!! Back from the most wonderful vacation ever. My husband and I traveled to Trinidad Ca. and stayed a couple of nights in the most wonderful motel under the redwoods. We walked the first night on Trinidad beach trying to stay dry as the tide was coming in. Of course I got it big time. I just wasn't fast enough and agile enough to jump over the tide pools to miss being hit by a super big wave. Laughter escaped my mouth as I ran as nimbly as I can. My legs worked like magic as I ran quickly with ease much to my surprise. I leaped over the pools without much though. It felt like I was living my second childhood. As water dripped off my skin, I dried my electronics that helped me to move my foot.

We walked as far as we could in the cold brisk wind. The sky was a mix of clouds, sunshine, and fog as evening was closing in on us. We walked over the the other side of the beach and viewed lots of seals in the water. (NOT. It looked in the distance like the bodies of seals. When we got close we found it was rather large clumps of seal-looking sea weed. The Joke was on us. More laughter.)

We found trails among the redwoods and walked to the edge of a cliff where I stood watching the waves come in splashing against giant rocks. One was called the blow hole. The high waves created an effect that resembled a whale's blow hole when the water hit. The mist was blowing in my face leaving me feeling refreshed. To get to the blowhole one had to travel many yards bent over stepping over smusched bushes and bending your head down to keep your head from hitting the top of the branches. What an adventure !!!

The motel room was simply delightful as it sat under the canapy of the redwoods. The air smelled so pure and fresh as I took many deep breaths in. If only I could preserve the air and take it home with me. The grounds were very tidy with exotic looking large purple tibochianthus bushes. Foxgloves were growing, anenomies, roses, and other cool loving beauties. The room we stayed in was rather large and unexpectedly luxurious. The bed had soft down blankets, super soft sheets, and a wonderful comfortable mattress that cuddled my body as I slept after the busy day. It also had a kitchen with all they supplies one would need other than food. The owners of the motel installed a water filter with the best tasting purified water. It was the most comfortable place I ever stayed.

There was wireless internet so I posted on the first day. In the kitchen I rolled out the yoga mat and hooked up the computer. In the car I had stashed a fan as I have to stay cool to exercise, weights, and my exercise ball. In the luggage was a few dvds that I planned to do. So shortly after returning to the room I was in the kitchen with my hands on the counter doing my barre workout !!! It worked perfectly.

The next day my husband and I went agate hunting on the lagoon. We walked picking up beautiful agates tumbled by the ocean storms. We met an older couple who had some walnut sized agates who very generously gave me a handful to take home. Further up the lagoon they said there was a great site to find the treasures. However the tide was coming in and they said if you are out too long the waves wash over and there is no chance of escape. So sadly we had to stop looking for the time being.

Then it was off to another long walk under the redwoods. We walked about 2.5 miles admiring the old growth of the trees. We saw yellow banana slugs crawling around looking for its next meal. There were bridges over the wide creeks which roared under us, full from all the rain we have had. There were wildflowers everywhere mixed in with the all the ferns creating a fairy-like environment. We were all alone on the trails with the exception of one jogger.

My legs worked famously as the Prokarin patch worked it's magic on me. I was able to keep moving all day long with little rest time other than sitting in the car driving.
Then it was off to a different part of the lagoon to search for more agates. Dusk was falling as we walked through sand that shifted constantly under our feet. It was more gravel size and larger making it difficult to walk. We found another great site to hunt. The tide was coming in again and we ran out of light before we could find very many.

The next day we met a man on the lagoon who had a happy dog. My term for a golden lab. That dog had the biggest smile on its face as it sat in his pickup. My husband was asking for information on the tides as I petted the dog. The man said he called his dog a doctor as he had a special gift. I turned to the dog and said heal me. The dog then started licking the part of my neck where I have the lesions from MS. It felt like a massage as he used great pressure as he vigorously licked my neck. Then he nibbled on my earlobe with his teeth. My ear always feel full of pressure and hurts like I have an ear infection even though one is not present. He worked over that left ear and neck for some time. I laughed as it tickled. Normally I do not like dogs very much and I don't like them licking me. It felt like this one was special so I allowed his treatment to continue. He turned to the right side of my neck and just lightly for a very short time gave it treatment. That side wasn't the problem so he didn't continue. He went back to where he knew the problem was, the left side.

The dog gently took hold of my head in his paws and bit the base of my neck and head with his teeth. It felt like he was giving me a acupressure massage. He was gentle as he worked the are. It was another area with lesions that bothers me. How did he know????

Then he scratched at my back. It was cold, so I was wearing a sweater. I took off the sweater and he stuck his nose down my back and proceeded to work the area that has a thoracic lesion. ????? How did the happy dog know? He was so happy doing his healing on me he almost climbed out of the truck. He didn't want to let go of me.

Before his treatment to be honest I was doing rather crappy. I had over done my exercise the day before. So I was paying for it MS wise. It was so worth it for all the things we did. My speech was slurred when I woke up and I was weaker than normal. The med took its time to kick in. After the happy healing dog, my walking improved again and my speech cleared up. The rest of the day was spent agate hunting, running in and out of the waves bent over looking for the jewels. They glow like moonstones as the water hits them. They look luminous with a beautiful bluish glow making it easier to spot them. We had a blast finding them.

We ended our trip at Jedamiah Redwoods where I discovered the sheer pleasure of running under the giant redwoods. Never did I believe in my life that I would be able to run again. I ran without my cane. I ran as fast as I could laughing, smiling, filled with joy. I felt free like someone took the weights off my legs and I could finally move.

Over the last few days since we got back, my walking has further improved. Today we walked 3.15 miles. I was able to complete the whole walk at a brisk pace through the whole thing !!! Over that last few days my time has improved along with the strength.

Miracles are happening my friends. Miracles that are greatly appreciated.

Before the Prokarin I was searching for a walker on line and to purchase an electric reclining wheelchair. Now I don't need them.

Trinidad and most of the California coast line are magical. When my family first learned about hunting for agates (years ago I was 11 or 12 and now 49) the woman who showed us what to look for called them angel tears or ocean tears. They do glow from the surrounding stones and water. I hope you made it to Patrick's Point State Park. It is definitely worth the visit with beautiful walks and overlooks.
Now, having said all of that about the coast the most wonderful thing in your blog is you!
How incredible for you to be able to run and run and run. What a truly exceptional experience to meet a healer dog. And all the laughter you and your husband shared - a cool glass of water on a hot day. Wonderful.

Beaming like Sunshine !!!

Thursday, March 31, 2011

I am tying in a motel room with a great smile on my face. Due to the vast improvement in the MS from being treated with the prokarin patch we decided to go on a trip. Yesterday I skipped along the beach like a carefree girl. Giggling with delight that I can skip now. I ran under the sunny skies trying to keep out of the approaching wave. The wave won. I was trying to keep my electronics bioness dry. We looked in tide pools and saw starfish clinging to boulders.

Later I walked rapidly on rocks, lots of rocks everywhere under my feet. Normally I can barely balance on the rock. Yesterday I felt like a deer flying over the rocks in my clumsy hiking boots as I walked to view a creek in the redwoods.

Nothing took the smile off my face with all the accomplishments. Yesterday had me looking over the edge of a cliff viewing the ocean below. Again something I wouldn't normally do. Due to the vast improvement I was able to balance safely without worry !!!

Thank you Prokarin for giving my life hope again. I feel like I have been given another opportunity at life !!! Its got to be the best treatment for MS ever created.

Oh, I totally surprised my husband by sticking to my exercise program. I shuck a yoga mat in to the pickup truck. Hid weights in the suitcase. Put exercise dvds in another bag and the computer. Last night's workout was Barre3 in the tiny kitchen of the motel room. YEA !!! I did it !!! I did the workout in a motel room and overcame the embarrassment of being watched as I exercised. I told my husband that it really helps with the muscle body mind connection of making everything work better together when I walk. Exercise seems to make all the parts work better.

Today we are off to the deep old groves in the Redwoods !!! Agate hunting and more beach walking.

Have a bliss filled day.

Glad you were able to get away. We all need to recharge our batteries from time to time. Sometimes I have the best workouts when on vacation. Maybe your husband will join you on the next one. LOL
