My new exercise buddy

Monday, July 21, 2014

I kind of disappeared from sparkpeople for a long time. I don't know what my weight is or what my real progress is at this point, but since I adopted my new best friend (Ohley to be seen in the picture) I know that I have been active. My first few weeks with him, I took him outside about five times a day (three long walks and 2 short walks). It slowly turned into two long walks and one short walk but that's okay because a couple times out of the week, we go on adventures, hiking and exploring new towns around the Finger Lakes. It's been amazing. He makes me happy and that really helps. Some days I take him to the field near the Women's Gym at SU and run around with him and a toy. I've been trying to teach him fetch and he enjoys it for a little bit but gets very bored fast or tired (maybe a bit of both). He is a sweetie and gives me a reason to wake up and I always look forward to going home to him. He keeps me active (if I don't keep him active, he gets bored and steals my shoes). He is also a sweetie and looks so cute when he runs around with his tail wagging and that's enough to light up my face so I do what I can. I also watch what I eat more so I have the energy to run around with him

300 mi of running completed

Tuesday, January 07, 2014

I haven't really been on SP this year so the mileage tracking is now very behind. I have been tracking mileage with nike running though because it automatically uploads

300 lifetime miles completed! The goal is to run 300 mi this year, ambitious? Probably; however, I am 325 mi to the next Nike running level and though it's just an icon on my screen, it brings me happiness oddly enough. Hopefully I can finish those miles by July 1st. We shall see

This year, I'm really going to lose the weight, yeah, I say that every year, but it HAS to happen this year

Harini's Clean Water for Rwanda Campaign with Charity:Water

Thursday, September 20, 2012

I'm not really much of a runner.
But in three months, I'm going to have run 350 miles for the year 2012.

It's going to require training, determination, endurance, strength and a whole lot of moral support. Honestly, I'm not all that sure I can handle it.

But when I think of the millions of women and children who have to walk miles each day to collect water for their families, I think of how most of that hard-earned water isn't even clean. I think about how 30,000 people die each week from water-related diseases.

And then... yes. I'll run 24 miles each week. I can do it. But I need your help.

My goal is to raise $1000 for water projects. The best part: 100% of all donations go directly to water projects. You can pledge per mile, you can give a lump sum when I complete my 350 miles or you can just donate whatever and whenever you want in the next three months.

I've never done anything like this before. And I promise to do it without complaining. After all, I'll have fresh water to keep me going. That's more than millions around the world can ask for.

Please join me in helping them.

You can donate here:

What's really cool about charity water is that 100% of the money we raise will directly fund water project costs in the field, and they'll prove every single dollar. When the project we help fund is complete, they'll send us a digital completion report with GPS coordinates and photos of the community we helped.

Please help me raise $1000 by Dec 31, 2012. You can donate to my campaign here:

Every little bit counts!

Miles to Dollars for Clean Water for Rwanda Campaign with Charity Water

Tuesday, September 18, 2012

Hey Everyone!

I recently learned that 800 million people around the world don't have access to clean, safe drinking water, and I'm doing something about it.

I'm raising money for clean water by running miles and matching each mile to a dollar until the deadline for the next 104 days! So far, I have 108.74 miles to match and 104 days left to match more miles!

Friends have helped me raise $425 on top of this amount to reach the campaign goal of $1000.

You can help me raise $1000 by Dec 31, 2012 by donating to my campaign here:

When the project we help fund is complete, they'll send us a digital completion report with GPS coordinates and photos of the community we helped. Here's an example.

Every little bit counts, so click here to donate to my campaign.

Thank you for your support!
Harini

P.S. Read this story from charity: water to learn how clean water changes lives.

100 miles!

Friday, August 31, 2012

I reached 100 miles for 2012 this morning! :)

I felt unstoppable this morning when I went running.

I...
woke up at 5
took my thyroid medication
waited 40 minutes
had a banana and a glass of chocolate almond milk
ran 4.4 miles
took the dogs out for a walk

In my feeling unstoppable
I...
ran harder and faster (25-50s faster than the average of my past seven runs according to Nike)
managed to beat my previous 5k PR
burnt 527 calories
was patient with the doggies as they both wanted to sniff every mailbox and post on the way

Being so close to 100 mi was very motivating to run harder and faster and feel unstoppable

Overall, a great start to a Friday :)
