Earned my PT badge for the First Time Ever!

Monday, October 08, 2007

I did it! Took the PT test last Wednesday and scored a 292. Got my badge--I'm so psyched. Didn't plan on taking the test until this week, but my Section SGT called Tuesday and said I could take it the next day if I wanted to. I said, what the heck, I'm as ready as I'm going to be. So nervous I was bouncing up and down--most annoying to the other girl taking the test, I'm sure :) I shaved off another 2 minutes off my run--did it in 16:19 this time. Feel really good about the whole thing. My husband said my head is way too big now :)

Try Something New!

Tuesday, August 07, 2007

Added this as a Team Huddle this morning. This weekend we had a Family Support Group Picnic for our unit. It was a great event with something new for me--a rock wall! I've always had somewhat of a fear of heights and never thought I'd voluntarily try this sport, but I figured that as one of the Army Values is Courage that I needed to suck it up and give it a try. Being the overachiever that I am, and feeling like I was pretty fit these days, I decided to try the "difficult" side--of course I fell off twice and didn't make it to the top. I waited a while and tried the "intermediate" side and made it up no problem! What a rush! Loved it and after the 1SG shimmied up the difficult side like a monkey it was on! I got back in line and did the hard side and made it :) Now I'm ready to go to the rock climbing gym in town and do it again!

Sabatage

Friday, August 03, 2007

My husband looks innocent, but he is a diet Sabateour (sp?) this week! He says he's supportive, but since I made my goal weight he's been bringing home food and drinks he knows I like or that might tempt me. I really don't appreciate it at all. He says that he'll continue to do this any time he knows I go below 150 lbs. because "You're getting all bony". My solution, if I'm not already dead from the gym, is to go out and run a couple of miles. It's crazy though, he brought home ice cream, gormet olives, cheese and crackers and my favorite beer this week! Yesterday I was strong enough to "Just say no" and only eat dinner, but I feel like I'm having to avoid strategically placed food like it's an IED in my own house! Ok. I'm done venting--I will perservere!!

Oh this post made me laugh! Lately my husband has been getting up early with the kids on Saturdays and making a run to the "Donut Store." Invariably, he'll send one of the little ones up to say "Mom, wake up! I have a yummy donut for you!" Its one thing to ignore the food that DH brings home - its a whole other ball-game when your 3-yr old wants to see you eat the donut too.

But reading between the lines in your scenario and mine is that our husband love us for who were are - regardless of how much much we weigh. So whenever I feel a little sabotage going on, I list in my head the supportiveness he shows as well: watching the kids while I run, celebrating the need to buy new pants, keeping us stocked on fresh veggies and fruits, etc.

I'm sure deep down your DH is really proud of the healthy lifestyle you've adopted and does many things to support you too! Just keep them in mind when he's rewarding you with your favorite beer and remember, your favorite things (in moderation) won't send you horribly off course!

    Thanks Paraven and Missthang93:
I appreciate the encouragement and support from you guys. You're both right, I make my own choices and will chose the better options. It just bothers me that he is doing this on purpose, not because he's trying to be nice. He says that I should try to make him happy by not losing too much weight. I'm not trying to lose more weight, just be healthy and strong, weight just comes off with it sometimes. I'm on it though--I don't deny myself anything--just keeping up with portion sizes, etc.,. Thanks again ladies!

Just remember, you can have those things as long as you do it in moderation!! Which is the key to all things....Believe me I know about the temptations...Just try to make the healthier choice and be mindful of what he brings home, suggest he gets you a light beer or a low fat ice cream....don't let him determin your weight....Keep on keeping on!!

Hey there - you have a good perspective on this! And you know you have the strength to stick with your new habits! Just think - by tempting you, he is unknowingly making you even STRONGER in this area! Since I've been in maintenance (Nov 06), I have found that I can relax the food I eat as long as I keep doing my cardio and exercise. So, it may not hurt to have a beer once in a while or even a bit of ice cream. You are right on track by doing the extra run to compensate! Best to you as you persevere!

Encouragement is a HUGE part of our success

Monday, July 30, 2007

Got the greatest gift today when I read the sparkmail that Chemgoddess sent me :) She thanked me for some input that I gave her about how I improved my time for the PT test, it was so sweet. That and working with the incoming soldiers in my National Guard unit's training program this weekend have made me feel really motivated to stay focused no matter what crazy thoughts are running through my head and do my best to succeed and help others to succeed. I think that's what we're here for-to help each other when we can and to humbly accept help when we need it-not to think we can everything on our own and that we're weak if we can't do it all.

Shouldn't weigh every day...?

Wednesday, July 25, 2007

I guess yesterday was a false alarm, cause today I'm back down to 148.8--whew! I shouldn't get so freaked out, if you weigh yourself every day there WILL be fluctuations, but when you've worked so hard--you get the picture. I need that guide though, so I'll continue doing it anyway (and probably whine about it if I gain an ounce) Anyway-today's going to be a better day :) Note: Did timed sit ups yesterday and did 69 in 2 minutes-on the way to getting that badge!! 35 push ups--could be better, but OK. Haven't timed my run yet, but I'm not too worried about it, strongest event so far...

    brynn05:

Go to your SparkPage and in the upper right hand corner is an 'Edit your sparkpage' button, when you get to that page you can "weigh in" towards the bottom of the the page near your goal tracker . If you didn't set it up you can set it up to look however you want, then when in Edit mode click on the link that says "weigh-in" above it. Looked for your page and I couldn't find it under your user name--you may need to set up your page anyway--it's really easy to do though. Good Luck :)

I weigh in everyday too -- do you know where to enter your weight daily on this website? I have been through the site many times and cannot find where to track weight.... any insight?

I weigh my self everyday too and for me, its not uncommon to see a 2-3 lbs fluctuation over a couple days. As long as the overall trend is in the negative direction, you're good!
