So...after completing the Disney Goofy Challenge last weekend, we went on our cruise and had a wonderful time! It was totally relaxing! Did no dancing, no shore excursions, just rested. It was perfect! Was sore most of the week, and trying to catch a cold which wasn't good.
Well yesterday, I completed the Clearwater Marathon, another 26.2 just a week after completing 39.3! Within the 3rd Mile, I was thinking "And just why I am I doing this again?" I felt okay and kept my pace slow, walking every half mile or so. Had some foot issues early and and my calves were on fire the entire race! The weather was perfect, overcast and cool and the course was wonderful, about half along the water and the other half along beautiful neighborhoods. There were 3 bridges and 3 steep overpasses. Was not expecting that. I didn't even try to run those!
Stopped to take a view pictures of the view, went to the bathroom twice. Finished in 5:26. Better than Disney, wasn't really looking for a particular time to finish, was just happy to finish.
So doing these races officially gets me into the Marathon Maniacs (you have to at least do 2 Marathons in 16 days, of which I did them in 8 days OR 3 marathons within 90 days, which I did 3 within 36 days). This is why I did the race yesterday, just for Marathon Maniac status. And I'm not the only crazy one, there were at least half dozen people doing the same thing, including one Running Friend who ran Disney as her first marathon, then a week later does an even better time yesterday!
So 9 days, 3 races, 65.5 miles...Time for a break! Will do very little running for about 2 weeks to give my body time to really rest. And will NEVER do anything like this again lol! From Marathon Maniac #6557!

And of course, the Bling!

The Disney Goofy Challenge is the Race and a Half where you do the Half Marathon Saturday, then the full marathon on Sunday. I've never done anything close to this! It hasn't even been a month since my last marathon and I hadn't run a marathon in alsmot 2 years before that!!! So I had no expectations, other than nightmares that I wouldn't finish! But I wanted that BLING!!!
Did a couple of training runs, a 16 and 18 miler to prepare for this race, but had a hamstring pull, so had not run the two weeks before the race. On Thursday, the 10th the Disney Marathon Expo started, which means I was on my feet working for 12 hours (working the Rock n Roll booth). I drank a lot, elevated my feet when I could and stood on a cushioned pad that I brought. On Friday, another 11 hours. Saturday morning was the Half Marathon and I had no idea how I would feel since I still had some pain. I found a running partner so we could take pics of each other and I just planned to enjoy the race! And that I did!!! I took pics with characters, we stopped and took a pic in front of Cinderella's castle, all things I would never do when I normally "race". I walked every mile and every water stop. And had very little pain, praise Yahweh! My normal racing time for a Half is just under 2 hours, so I finished this one in 3:01 but didn't care about the time and was so happy to finish and get my Donald Duck Medal!
After the Half Marathon, went back to the hotel, took an Ice Bath, got dressed and went back to the Expo to work 6 hours, then to prepare for the Marathon!
Goal for the Half was to reserve my energy and strength for the full so I could complete the 39.3 mile challenge! Started out running with a few friends who were doing their first marathon. They were doing 3/1 intervals (run 3 minutes, walk 1). I stayed with them until Mile 11 as they were increasing the speed of their running intervals and my legs were feeling very tired. So I dropped back and turned up my music. I ran really slowed, walked each water stop and each mile marker. Took more pics with characters, animals, went to pee 3 times lol. Then at Mile 20, they had a big "party" going on! All my favorite Disney music playing, cool characters and just a lot of fun! You could take a pic with Donald, Mickey & Goofy but there was a line...oh well! I wanted that pic so I waited in line! I was having so much fin I didn't want to leave, but realized I needed to finish the final 6.2 miles.
While I wasn't really in pain, my feet hurt like crazy, probably from a combination of the standing at the Expo and the pounding of the pavement in the two races. Otherwise, I felt great! They really did a great job with the course, we ran along the Richard Petty speedway and they had a bunch of classic cars lined all along! We also ran on the ESPN track which was cool, and even saw a turtle crossing the track (yes a live turtle, who knows where he came from lol).
As the remaining miles came up, I just soaked up the experience! I was having a blast! I actually got emotional when I saw the Epcot Ball because I know the finish line was near! I was really going to complete this!
I finished in 5:49 and was so proud of myself! My hubby also ran the marathon and finished in 3:42. He wasn't happy with his time, as he really wanted a sub 3:30 but it got really hot and hunid! But I was proud of him!!! We did it!
So after the cruise, we drove to Port Canaveral and boarded a cruise and spent the next 4 days relaxing! I didn't even bring any sneakers or heels with me! Never stepped foot in the gym! The only walking I did was to and from the dining room lol! Ok, we did get off and walked the ports, but only for about 30 minutes. We had a balcony so we enjoyed it. This was truly a "sleepcation". Well deserved!
Onto the next challenge, the Clearwater Marathon this Sunday for yet another 26.2!!! Then I'll take a break!

So after I rested up from the marathon, I did a 4 mile run on Thursday of the next week and felt great! My next challenge is running the Disney Goofy Race & a Half Challenge the weekend of Jan. 12 & 13th. I'll run the Half on Saturday, then the full on Sunday! I'm super excited about doing this! I have a bunch of running friends doing Disney as their first marathon since it's the 20th anniversary of it, so I figured, I'll coast through the Half, then run with them on Sunday! So, the following Sunday after running 26.2 miles, here I was back out there running 18 miles! It was a very slow run, but I felt good and enjoyed it!
Hubby will be doing the Marathon and I'll be doing both, then after the race on Sunday, the 13th, we'll drive an hour to Port Canaveral and board a Carnival Cruise to celebrate our 22nd Anniversary! Can't wait, and goodness knows, we'll both need the rest!
Bring on the Bling!
I finally got a medal rack, 31 and counting!
The love of my life!

JACKSONVILLE MARATHON RACE RECAP:
I went into this with no specific time goal, though I started somewhere behind the 3:45 Galloway group. I figured I at least had to start with an intent to do a 3:55 time (my Boston Marathon qualifying time) knowing the worst thing to happen was I wouldn't be able to keep up. I ran/walked behind them for about 8 miles, then it was just too much. Around Mile 10 I got a cramp in my right hamstring that lasted the rest of the race, sometimes really bad, sometimes not so much. Then around Mile 18, got muscle spasms in both legs just above my knees, then around Mile 21, got a side stitch (yes I did hydrate properly yesterday). They had water stops every 2 miles and I walked for 45 seconds at every mile marker and at each water stop. Even enjoyed a Mimosa at Mile 25 lol! But despite all the physical pain, I was re-introduced to the 26.2 distance after almost 2 years and again realized my respect for it. It's hard, really hard but that's what I love. I realized that while I would love to be "fast" and qualify for Boston, etc,. the biggest accomplishment is crossing that finish line and knowing you completed 26.2 miles, which only 0.5% of the world's population will ever do. I finished at 4:29:46 (no where near a PR for me), but I was so proud of myself and mentally enjoyed it all! I feel blessed to be able to do this and look forward to doing it again with Running Friends at Disney next month! It was a great day, praise Yahweh!

My Marathon is next Sunday, December 16th in Jacksonville. Am I ready? Well I will be! What are my expectations? Not really sure. My coach recommended I go into the race without a time goal so I wouldn't stress, but I'm just not wired that way.
I found out they will have Galloway Pacers (run/walk), so depending on the Pace Times, I may run with one and see how I do. I feel okay about it all, just have to keep my emotions under control and not stress. Goal is to enjoy the race. Created my playlist today so that's ready!
Did a few easy runs this week and finished with an 8 mile run yesterday. Felt really good. Been doing most my runs later in the day in the heat so if it's cool on race day (which it is expected to be), that will be a bonus. I run so much better in cool weather (40's to 50's).
I've had a fun week promoting Rock n Roll St. Pete Half Marathon at some running socials! If you're looking to do this one or any North American Rock n Roll Race, make sure you check the race's Facebook page or website for a special offer on 12-12-12!
Wishing everyone a great week! Next time you hear from me, I will be a marathoner for the 3rd time lol!
