It's been an interesting couple of weeks. Workouts have been going strong, eating has been on point. I've just been excited about my results. Mainly because Ruben's been pleased with them and he sees way more than me when I look at my pictures.
I'm starting to order things now, my posing suit, shoes, preparing to start tanning (yes I have to tan, I couldn't believe it either!), mentally preparing for my bikini wax (OMG OMG OMG), and starting to learn to pose. I've lost 4 lbs in the last 9 days, which is incredible! Still losing inches and body fat, all in the right places! So I'm so pleased!
This has truly been an interesting journey. Went to visit my husband's relatives this weekend. They hadn't seen me since this time last year and they couldn't believe how small and in shape I was. It felt really good. Many people struggle with their eating when traveling and since I don't travel much, I knew it would be some work. Especially since we were staying in a very small town in the mountains of KY. So as soon as our plane landed, we immediately found a WalMart and I bought my staple items (sweet potatoes, black beans, canned tuna, mustard, avocados, protein shakes, etc.). I didn't want to have any excuse for not eating right! Fortunately our motel room had a microwave and fridge! Yay!!! So while everyone gave me grief about eating my "healthy food" while they pigged out on fried fish, ribs, cakes, hush puppies, etc. I know what my goal is and nothing was going to stop me.
WITH THAT SAID, I did ask Ruben (via email) if I could have a rib. He said I could have 4 as long as I had my chicken breast too. So here's what the "old" Tia would have done: put my healthy meal on the plate, add the ribs and eat the 4 ribs first. But the "new" Tia ate the healthy food first and only ate one rib. Didn't want any more. I was very proud of myself. Because I stuck with my eating routine, I never really craved much, because I felt like I was always eating. So I stayed on track! I really believe it's so much about preparation. Not just preparing for a trip, but PREPARING TO HIT YOUR GOAL, no matter what that is. People say "good luck" a lot, but I really believe luck is where hard work meets preparation. A friend of mine used to say "The harder I work, the luckier I get." I love that!
Also, while gone, I had planned to bring my Resistance Bands to work out with, but forgot them. The nearest gym was 50 miles away. So I did bodyweight exercises (pushups, squats, lunges, tricep dips, plyometrics and walking uphill). Again, no excuses when you want something!
These results we want aren't supposed to come easy. Nothing truly worth it ever does. But when we accomplish our goals, we can feel so great about ourselves and be able to help the next person to accomplish theirs.
So here's a few pictures:
1) Me May 3, 2009 letting it all hang out, then just last week letting it all hang out again. Ruben wanted me to share this one, though I can't stand either picture. :-)
2) 1st Week Training for Figure Competition
3) 11th Week Training for Figure Competition. NOTE: I bought this bikini in Jan and planned to wear it some time this year. I've never worn a bikini in public before. So I wore it for my Weekly Progress Pictures in Week one but have worn a different one the following weeks. Ruben asked me to wear a solid color and it was the only one I had so I put it on. It was a little big. Ruben said I looked great except for "the Grandma Panties". I about died laughing. When you see how the bottoms are all droopy it is funny. Needless to say, won't be wearing that bikini again!
4) And finally, here's a pic from this weekend of me, my hubby (on the right of me) and his brother flexing for the camera. I've always wanted nice biceps and I'm on my way!!!
Anyway, we're 45 days out and Ruben is THE MAN!!! I hate to sound like an infomercial, but if you're not getting the results you need on your own, maybe you need some coaching like I did! Just having a custom designed meal plan and a trained eye to see even the smallest results or changes that need to be made is worth it all! He's helped so many on Sparkpeople. Ruben's Sparkname is FLEXCHEF. He is AWESOME!!! Thanks again and I can't wait to see what the next 45 days will bring!!!
I'm still enjoying the process! Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day Weekend! Love you all!

This will short, but just 3 weeks ago, Ruben (aka FLEXCHEF on Sparkpeople) started coaching me. He lives 3,000 miles away so we've never met in person. He provides online coaching emails and obviously using Sparkpeople. His services include: I send him weekly pics, he provides meal plans, workouts, etc. I say this because while this is my 10th week training, I see the biggest difference in the last 3 weeks since Ruben's been coaching me!
Attaching a pic, can you believe this is only 3 weeks? I still have a LONG way to go, but I'm definitely making progress and enjoying the process! Thanks so much Ruben!

Well, I had gotten to the four week mark before the the Competition on June 12th, and it was mutually determined (by me, trainer and coach) that I'll have a better shot at doing the show on July 16th. I could have chanced it for June 12th, but decided, instead of getting on stage HOPING I look good, I want to make sure I look good enough to do this. The only thing that would have been special about the June 12th date was that it's my 42nd birthday, but I can go another 4 weeks. No problem.
My progress has been going well. Workouts getting more intense, but I can handle it. Pretty much used to the diet, so it's just back to countdown time!
One of the biggest things I'm excited about it is that I'm working with a professional coach, Ruben (aka FLEXCHEF on Sparkpeople). He really knows his stuff and has corrected the things I wasn't doing right and enhanced what I was doing right! This is my 3rd week working under his tutelage and it's been AWESOME! Sparkpeople is so great because not only do you meet great people who become friends, but it also opens you up to great resources! Thanks for everything so far Ruben!
I went with a friend to Ann Taylor Loft to do a little shopping and I couldn't even believe it but I was able to put on a Size 2 pair of pants!!! I could button and zip them easily. I couldn't believe it!!! Me? A size 2???
Here's my measurement progress since starting my Figure Comp training:
Arm (Bicep): 11.75
Body Fat: 29.6%
Arm (Bicep): 11.5
Body Fat: 19.85%
It's almost scary to think what these stats will be in another 60 days when I compete! I'm loving it!
Here's a picture showing week 1 and this past week, 8 weeks later. Now I can tell the difference! Also a picture of me and hubby from a cruise Dec. 2008 just before I started my weight loss journey. Must never forget where and why we start this journey!
Still enjoying the process and now looking forward to July 16th!

First I want to wish all the Spark Mothers out there a Happy Mother's Day!
Well, I knew this would be a little bit of a hard day. Schedule was tight and I had to get my workout in. Gym wasn't open in time before church, I'm not supposed to run (too close to competition) and all the FitTv shows were cardio with weights. So I pulled out my Shaun T's Rockin Body DVD and did the Disco Groove at 7:30am! It was great! I worked up a serious sweat with it! Cardio - DONE!
So we go to Mother's Day Brunch Buffet and they had crab legs, and so much more. But I was good. They said no ordering off the menu, but because I called ahead, they made grilled chicken and broccoli w/no seasoning just for me. I was just as happy. I didn't feel deprived and enjoyed my Seltzer Water with lime as everyone else drank their Mimosa's and Hurricane's. I was really proud of myself today.
Training's going good. "Flex" pics from May 2009, July 2009 and then May 8, 2010. And in July I was already wearing a size 6!
33 Days until the competition. Really hoping my body responds right to the training and diet. I'm doing everything I've been asked to do, so I'm thinking positive that on my 42nd birthday June 12th I'll be stepping on stage for my first Figure Competition.
It's actually getting easier instead of harder, maybe because the goal date is getting closer and I finally feel like I have a shot at getting competition form.

So I've been at this training for my first Figure Competition for 7 weeks now. 6 weeks to go and I'm ready to turn up the volume on my diet and workout! I've got to do this! I didn't come this far to fail. Failure is NOT an option! Here are my stats since since this training:
3/10 - 135.8 lbs
4/30 - 130.5 lbs - DOWN 5.3 LBS!
3/10 - 29.6%
4/30 - 19.3% - DOWN 10.3%!!!
(Has always been a goal to be under 20% - Yay!)
3/10 - 42 in
4/30 - 40.5 in - DOWN 1.5 INCHES!!!
3/10 - 35 in
4/30 - 34.5 in - DOWN 0.5 INCH!!!
3/10 - 29.5 in
4/30 - 27.5 in - DOWN 2 INCHES!!!
3/10 - 39 in
4/30 - 37 in - DOWN 2 INCHES!!!
3/10 - 21 in
4/30- 19 in - DOWN 2 INCHES!!!
3/10 - 11.75 in
4/30 - 10.5 in - DOWN 1.25 INCHES!!!
3/10 - 13 in
4/30 - 12.5 in - DOWN 0.5 INCH!!!
So 9.75 total inches lost in 7 weeks. Not bad at all. But not good enough! So this week, I'm starting to do 2 cardio sessions per day at least six days a week, including my strength sessions 4 days a week.
I'm pretty used to the diet now. Amazing how much you enjoy eating mustard on chicken for seasoning after a while. On most days I've been eating 16 egg whites, I can't even believe how many eggs I've been going through. Between the eggs and all the chicken I've been eating, have seriously thought about investing in a chicken farm!
But it's nice to hear my husband constantly talk about how great and sexy I look so that's added incentive.
The Figure Competition is on my 42nd birthday, June 12th and it will be here soon enough! So I'm getting to work! I'm so grateful for all the Sparkfriends I've made who have been so helpful, in particular, SLAHDIVA and FLEXCHEF, thank you both so much for your support!
And so the journey continues...
Here's a couple of pictures, one from 5/3/2009 and one from 4/30/2010. I'm not where I need to be, but I've definitely made progress in the last year.
