I started a thread on the Spark Challenges message board, and I thought I'd post it here as well in case anyone wants to join me.
The thread is linked at the bottom of this blog, and the first post looks like this:
I'm not the best housekeeper, and I know my messy house affects my ability to get things done! Plus, I'm looking for a new apartment, but there's NO WAY I can give notice while my current apartment looks like this :). My goal is to have my house organized and move-ready by mid June.
I'm challenging myself to 15 minutes of cleaning per day, and I'm hoping others will join me. This could be any cleaning--unpacking boxes, washing the dog (which, if your dog is anything like Jasper, also counts as serious cardio!), vacuuming, putting books away. You can even split the time into three 5-minute blocks if a whole 15 minutes seems to daunting at first. Just as long as it adds up to 15 minutes at the end of the day, you're golden.
Having a clean, organized house has always been a challenge for me. When I was still living at home, I used messiness as a means to preserve my privacy. My family had no desire to spend time in my room or root through my piles, and that was just fine by me. However, I clung to that behaviour as an adult, even though it was no longer necessary. I distinctly remember the moment when I looked around my apartment and thought "What the hell? This isn't me anymore!" I've made a few attempts to change my ways--some more successful than others--but, like my weight, I've always lost ground. Like my weight, this is the last time I'm going to let that happen. I'm losing the weight. Now's the time to lose the mess, too! I'd love to be able to wake up on my birthday to a clean house, with a total of 75 pounds lost, and begin my 29th year as I mean to go on.
And, because I promised to reward myself for accomplishments: if I make my goal, I'm buying a piece of art to decorate my newly organized home. There! I've said it. Let the games begin!
