One Bad Meal Doesn't Mean I'm a Failure!

Saturday, September 08, 2012

Yep. Just what the title reads.

For three weeks I have been successful at tracking and staying on target for my eating. I feel better and sleep better and have more energy.

So, what's the problem?

Problem 1) Last night my hubby and I decided to go out to eat which was unplanned.

Problem 2) One of my comfort foods is beer-battered fish and french fries. It was the first item on the special menu and is just what I ordered. I ate everything on my plate except for a few fries.

Problem 3) Not ordering a salad. What was I thinking, I always order a side salad.

Problem 4) Dessert, warm chocolate chip cookie with a scoop of ice cream on top.

All problems. All BIG mistakes!

IF YOU FAIL TO PLAN, YOU PLAN TO FAIL!

I could beat myself up and have it ruin my efforts or I could turn it into a positive.

Positive 1) It was ONE meal and not the whole day.

Positive 2) The fat and always full feeling is all too familiar prior to joining Spark People. I didn't like it then, and I don't like it now.

Positive 3) I am now, more than ever, motivated to become successful at losing this weight and further developing healthier eating and exercising habits.

Spark on Friends!

I watch myself. I observe myself. Feelings, actions all, good and bad. No judging, just learning, and moving forward step by little step.

We are not human if we don't have a treat now and again. It will only make us fail more if we don't incorporate a proper lifestyle change which includes the odd cheat day now and again. Take your mistakes and change them into positives you will find that next week it will work for you. Good for you recognizing where you went wrong

Taking your mistakes and turning them into learning moments, and keeping positive about your overall efforts - two great keys for long-term success!!

I don't know about you, but with me, when I have a less than good food day, I tend to lose a pound rather than gain one, go figure! I guess it shocks our system enough and makes our digestive system work harder to eliminate the extra waste, since our normal healthy fair is easier to digest. Thus, the extra work burns extra calories as we sleep! At least that is how it does for me, I guess. Anyway, it's not as bad on us as we feel about it. Therefore by igniting the Spark in your motivation, your less than perfect meal wasn't so terrible after all. Enjoy!

Yes, learn from the experience and move on.

My night last night was similar. Spouse got home and dinner was going to be left over healthy tacos, with ground turkey and low carb tortillas. But, he wanted the taco meat as nachos instead. I said OK. And oh it is friday night, wouldn't a beer or two would be good with that. And he said how about some of those chocolate dipped cookies for desert. So too many tortilla chips plus two beers and three cookies gave me a 1000+ calorie meal and a 2000+ day.

A splurge is ok, but this was three splurges in one meal. I was pretty mad at myself the next day when I tallied up the damage.

What did I learn, next time I should just have the tacos, a few chips, and maybe a diet soda, let him have his nachos, I don't have to join him. One cookie would have been fine, and skip the beer, if I want volume have a diet soda, if I want alcohol, have a glass of white wine.

Today I have jumped back on track with both feet!

Funny what makes us think of summer. When I hear a lawn mower off in the distance it always reminds me of a summer day!

Thought's about being Monday...

Monday, August 27, 2012

I like Monday's...and I like Friday's, Saturday's and Sunday's. Why? For me, Monday's mean everyone has gone back to work or school and I get to do whatever I want during the days leading up to Friday! I love Friday's because it's the start to the weekend. Aaahhh, I enjoy weekend's!

Speaking of Monday's, they also represent the day "I'm going to begin my diet today" cheer! I'm a bit silly that I can't being on any other day but Monday's. Today, is also the beginning of week two of doing the Spark Diet. I'm delighted with the program thus far and really enjoy being educated by reading the many articles, blogs, taking part on message boards and taking quizzes.
