My 2012 Promises to Me

Sunday, January 01, 2012

Today begins a New Year. I pray it is a better year for DH and me than last year.
Beginnig today I will remain positive. I will accomplish this by daily beginning the day with formal devotions, just me and my Lord.
Then I will faithfully do an exercise DVD.
Followed by a nutritous breakfast.
I will walk about the house every two hours if we are not going out.
I will closely monitor my snacks. Three snacks, AM, afternoon and evening. At least two will be fruit or vegetable.
All this to aid a weight loss of half pound per week.

Now it is in writing and I can re-read it as needed amd add or amend as more comes to mind.

Half a pound a week is 25 lbs. in a year! Not bad! I lost 20 last year. And usually I lose about 10 a year, when I am being "good." when I am bad--well we won't go there!

Have a great 2012. Chris emoticon

I certainly could incorporate every goal you mentioned. God bless you and give you a wonderful 2012. Hugs, Jane emoticon

"I will accomplish this by daily beginning the day eith formal devotions, just me and my Lord."

This is SUCH a great goal - I truly believe God helps us when we ask for it!! I prayed for help in reaching my weight loss goal this year and I made it. Yes, I had to put in the work, but I believe He was there helping me stay focused!! Now I'm praying for help STAYING at goal and I believe I'll get that too. God isn't there just to help us with the BIG things - I firmly believe He helps with the small ones too. I believe in expressing my gratitude for His many blessings - and I am overwhelmed at how many He gives me!! emoticon

THERE IS NO X IN CHRISTMAS

Friday, December 09, 2011

Christmas is the celebration of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. Take away all the secular aspects and this is what is left. For Christians December 25th is Christmas. For all others it appears to be Winter Holiday. Ok! Call it that if you must. But please don't exchange Christ for an X. A Blessed Christmas to All

Hopefully the reason many people use Xmas instead of writing it out as Christmas is because Americans are becoming more lazy each and every year. At least I like to think that's the reason, I had never before thought of it as X'ing him out. That is a horrible thought.

I believe true Christians will always say "Merry Christmas" as there is no short-cut to God!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Christmas.
The only time I use the "X' representing Christ is when I am writing shorthand notes in church.
However for Christmas I too, like to see the word written out. There are enough secular people trying to do away with Christmas without believers doing the same thing.
Blessings

Having been aeare of Chi and the cross, I still maintain that in recent years the ysage of X has been largely a part of placating non Christians. I am aware that some Christians fo use it also. But for me and my house we will use Christmas.

I see the eXplanations but it will forever be Christmas to me and not Xmas. It is like talking slang to God about the reason for the season. God bless you, Marcia.

In avoiding the appearance of evil, and knowing that X in the English language does not have a similar interpretation, I will stick with Christmas. I love seeing Christ's name in our secular world! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Unfortunately most people don't know the real reason for using the 'X' so I really don't like to see it.

The "X" in X-mas isn't an "X" at all. It's the greek letter "chi", which is pronounced the same way as the ch- in Christ. I've included a couple of links to this historical abbreviation, that has only in the past few decades come under fire as a secular way to "remove Christ from Christmas." Of particular note is the wikipedia entry section entitled "Usage for X for Christ."
I'm not trying to convince you to use the abbreviation; just supplying some historical context ;)

The X in Christmas, as explained by our pastor, dates back to the early Christians who used the sign of the cross to depict Christ. Therefore, Xmas can also stand for Christmas.
Hope this helps!

December 7,1941

Thursday, December 08, 2011

On the national level this was a day which has lived in infamy. However, in my small two year old world, this was the day I finally met my baby brother. He was born on Thanksgiving Day and came home from the hospital on this infamous day. I called him this evening to commemorate the happy aspects of that day

On the other hand, after this day, Dad and Uncle David joined the marines. Uncle Bill joined the navy and served on the USS Iowa, and Uncle Woody joined the army. David lost his life on Okinawa. All the rest returned safely. David, too, returned to be buried in the local churchyard.

REMEMBER PEARL HARBOR!!! I will never forget,

Very True, Thanks for posting ! ! We all need to remember this day. I also had one Uncle that lost his left leg, and another Uncle that Died at Normandy. I never got to meet the one that died, as I was just a baby. I remember my grandparents having the Star Banners hanging in the windows.

At any rate, I've always thought Tom Brokaw got it right - 'The Greatest Generation.'

I Finally Saw the Light

Tuesday, November 08, 2011

Everyone in the great NorthEast of the USA knows that the power went out/off October 29th. Ours faded to black at 4 P,M. No heat, no light, no cable, but we had the telephone.

I had more exercise than I usually do when we have electricity. I ate according to the heart healthy diet. But we probably didn't eat enough. We went out everyday for a warm meal and drank water at home.

November 2nd was our 48th wedding anniversary. Ate at IHOP that day. Surprisingly it is possible to order fruits and vegetables more than in years past.

We had a lot of tree damage in the yard. The emergeancy areas are taken care of and an appointment made for the other damage.

Last evening I was dozing (have been going under the covers for warmth). When DH said the most beautiful words I have heard,"They;re here". Four trucks of angels from New Brunswick illuminated the street with their high beams and tackled our problem. Within an hour we had lights and DH turned up the heat.

So I am finally back and hope all my Spark friends fared well through the dark week.\\The trees have been removed from our vehicles. Cable should be reastored anytime now.
God's in His Heaven, all's right with my world.

Yes, we do rely on our power don't we? Do you ever wonder what people did years ago?
Of course they had the wood stoves to keep warm. Maybe we need to bring them back. lol
So glad you survived those days.
Also congrats on your anniversary.

Glad you are up and running, so to speak! It can be a real learning experience, when the power is out, so long. Our record, here, is 16 days, when Isabelle blew through! Talk about trees down! Of course, I kind of like it, old school, for awhile, but hubby...drives him batty! (That can drive me batty!) lol
Glad you are back. We missed you.
Oh and Happy 48th Anniversary! emoticon

So glad you're back! My prayers have been with you. I was at work when the lights went out....53 hours later the power returned, but obviously nothing like your recent experience. My Goodness! I'm so glad you can enjoy heat and light, and refill that refrigerator without fear that you will have to trash it all again. A quick wipe with a disinfectant should do the trick unless a lot has leaked out of the food packaging. May your insurance company be good to you with a fat check to even the budget replacing the lost food along with other unexpected expenses.

Blessings!

WOW One Spark Friend had a lot of damage to her house with fallen trees, one on top of the car, and with burnt out appliances and I don't know what all. They had to go to a motel for several days and are still cleaning up.
He re it is 91 and still dry.
Glad you have your power back on. You can't keep a WINNER down

The Week of the Dentist

Friday, October 21, 2011

What is the dental hymn??

Crown Him with many Crowns LOL

I don't remember what we had planned for this week. It all changed Tuesday when my tongue found a loose crown.

Wednesday an AM and a PM visit to the dentist replaced a fun meeting of my retirement group. Plus it was raining meaning achy joints and real pain walking.

That evening I had trouble flossing around that tooth so another phone call in the morning set up another visit this noon. Niw my teeth are once again forming a beautiful smile.

A decade ago my teeth were being ground down to small stubs. I prayed to God to save my teeth and He sent me this wonderful dentist. Thank You God, and thank you Dr. K.
