Crying While Working Out?

Tuesday, November 09, 2010

Today I got all choked up while working out.

Weird.

Right?

As I was dancing along with my Just Dance 2 game, the words to Katy Perry's "Firework" song touched me. They touched me as an overweight person, a mother, a wife, a friend... a team leader. I had never seen the video nor had I heard the song before this game, but listening to the words had my eyes swimming with tears. THIS song gets it--- it GETS the struggle.... and reminds us that we all have a spark inside us that can ignite OUR fireworks from within.

I want to dedicate this song to the San Antonio Spark Team and would REALLY like to make a motion to make it our official team song!

Firework

Do you ever feel like a plastic bag
Drifting through the wind, wanting to start again?
Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin
Like a house of cards, one blow from caving in?

Do you ever feel already buried deep?
Six feet under screams but no one seems to hear a thing
Do you know that there's still a chance for you
'Cause there's a spark in you?

You just gotta ignite the light and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July

'Cause baby, you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go, oh
As you shoot across the sky

Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make 'em go, oh
You're gonna leave 'em falling down

You don't have to feel like a waste of space
You're original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow

Maybe you're reason why all the doors are closed
So you could open one that leads you to the perfect road
Like a lightning bolt, your heart will blow
And when it's time, you'll know

You just gotta ignite the light and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July

'Cause baby you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go, oh
As you shoot across the sky

Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make 'em go, oh
You're gonna leave 'em falling down

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
It's always been inside of you, you, you
And now it's time to let it through

'Cause baby you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go, oh
As you shoot across the sky

Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make 'em go, oh
You're gonna leave 'em falling down

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon

Here is a link to watch the video---- and I really recommend it.

WHEW! What a weekend.

Sunday, November 07, 2010

So, I got everything done. THANK GOD. I am SO over throwing parties and not being thanked properly. *SIGH*

Anyway, I made 7 different types of icing. Vanilla Buttercream, Strawberry Buttercream, Almond-Rum Buttercream, Milk Chocolate, Cream Cheese, Strawberry Cream Cheese and French Vanilla Whipped Cream.

My house was spotless. Even now it looks quite nice-- so if anyone wants to come try the Just Dance game.. now is the time. Hahah. No, I AM serious. I am open to the idea should anyone want to try it.

I made food to send to my friend's mother's house. Stuffed Bell peppers to be exact.... made with 99/1 turkey and brown rice.

I managed to get all my shopping that I forgot or needed to do (plus other stuff) done because my sister took Will overnight. Old Navy, Specs, Costco, HEB and Game Stop.

The only thing that suffered was my exercise-- but I still managed to get a few minutes in on Friday and several in on Saturday (we played the dance game during the party). I missed my range yesterday I *think* to be honest, I didn't even get a chance to log in yesterday but for about 5 minutes. I haven't entered in my food from yesterday but between Jack in the Box, Little Caesar's, alcohol and a lot of frosting.... I am assuming it won't be pretty. So I think I will give myself a free pass and not bother with it.

Even after that, my scale reflected 2 pounds lost-- which like I said last week, I knew should come off pretty easily again..... but THANK GOD it is gone now.

SO, back on the saddle again until next weekend--- however, next weekend is the Oceans party, so we will be eating fish! I think I shall require that any foods must be HEALTHY. YAY!

Happy to hear that the party went as you planned it an that you figured out a way to get everything done. Superwoman much? I'm pretty certain Superwoman needed a little booze and frosting every now and then.

Take your relaxing Sunday to charge up for your action-packed week! You are a ROCKSTAR!!!

Feeling Overwhelmed....

Friday, November 05, 2010

This is not diet-related, but I am feeling SO overwhelmed.

1. I have to make several types of icing for a party tomorrow night (my friend doesn't eat cake, only icing... so I bought what I need for several different icings)--- which wouldn't be so bad if it didn't take forever because you make one and clean the whole mixer than make another and repeat.........

2. same friend's father had a heart attack today and I planned to make stuffed peppers to send to their house so I went to HEB and got what I needed and now I just need to do it

3. I have to go to HEB again because I forgot stuff... yea, great

4. I need to go to Old Navy and get this SAME friend a gift card because for some reason I double as my Father's personal shopper

5. I need to clean my whole house since said friend invited like 25 people I HAVE NEVER MET and don't even know who they are

6. I have to figure out what to feed all these people who are coming

7. I need to go to Specs and see if I can find this specific alcohol to make a specific drink.... but I don't even know if she will drink it

8. On top of this... I need to feed Will lunch and get him down for a nap that will last 2 hours... then I have about an hour before the village shows up at my house for the night so I need to be home

9. Add to this that I have to make dinner at some point

10. Did I mention I need to get some exercise in here some place?

I am kinda freaking out right now.............

Whoo!! My head is spinning from the whirlwind of activity. Even though I haven't met you yet, you seem so organized - so... take a deep breath, delegate the activites that you can to someone else and just pace yourself so you can enjoy yourself too. I am with Jen... there are so many times that I wish I had powers like " I Dream of Jeannie" too.

Seriously! I was at an Old Navy today - I could have got you the card :)

And the party isn't til tomorrow. And if you have to run errands while everyone is over tonight, isn't that ok? You got stuff to do, they'll deal!

Breathe.... It will all turn out!

Sarah and Jen already posted my feelings on the matter. As a person who has ALWAYS taken it upon herself to do most if not all of the work at family functions and parties we just don't stop to think about having someone else do some of the leg work. We then get overwhelmed and end up not enjoying ourselves at the function nearly as much as we could if we hadn't been so darn busy!

I'm curious. You are going to serve your friend bowls of icing? Really? Am I missing something here? I get that she doesn't eat cake. Is it her birthday or what? She must be super special to go to THIS much trouble! Try to breathe and get some help in there!

Breathe deep. And tackle one task at a time that's all you can do.

I'm with Sarah...Specs and Old Navy are both in the Forum...ask a buddy who is coming from that direction to make those stops and bring you the gift card and liquor, and ask other village members to help with HEB and other chores. You are an amazing woman but NO ONE expects you to have superpowers to do all of this stuff by yourself!

(Wouldn't it be awesome if we could get "I Dream of Jeanie" powers for a day and just magically make stuff appear/disappear/clean/etc. on command??)

I agree wiuth SBEAR5 - you need to delegate! Funny about the "icing only". Personally I don't care for "birthday style cakes". My birthday dessert of choice would probably be a pie! HA!

I mainly wanted to comment on how adorable your background is. Is this a craft you made? If so, do you have a pattern or instructions? It's just TOO TOO CUTE!

Press On!

A WAKE-UP CALL-- for my body (I hope)

Friday, November 05, 2010

So, as you all know, I haven't lost any pounds in over a month though my inches have changed. I know I should be really happy with the inches being different but not losing pounds can get really, really frustrating!!!!

So, this weekend, I will be jumping on an old bandwagon that I used to use (quite effectively, I might add) to kick my body's butt into waking up and dropping some pounds. Here is what it looks like... more or less:

First Day

Breakfast
1/2 Grapefuit or Juice
1 Slice of Toast
1 tbsp. Peanut Butter
Black Coffee or Tea

Lunch
1/2 cup Tuna
1 Slice Toast
Black Coffee or Tea

Dinner
2 Slices (3 oz.) of any Meat
1 cup String Beans
1 cup Carrots or Beets
1 small Apple
1 cup Vanilla Ice Cream

Second Day

Breakfast
1 hard-boiled Egg
1 Slice of Toast
1/2 Banana
Black Coffee or Tea

Lunch
1 cup Cottage Cheese
or: 1/2 cup Tuna
5 Saltine Crackers

Dinner
2 Wieners
1 cup Cabbage or Broccoli
1/2 cup Carrots
or Turnip Greens
1/2 Banana
1 cup Vanilla Ice Cream

Third Day

Breakfast
1 hard-boiled Egg
1 Slice Toast
Black Coffee or Tea

Lunch
1 Slice Cheddar Cheese
5 Saltine Crackers
1 small Apple
Black Coffee or Tea

Dinner
1 cup Tuna
1 cup Carrots or Beets
1 cup Green Beans
or Cauliflower
1 cup Cantaloupe
or 1 small Apple
1 cup Vanilla Ice Cream

* You are allowed diet soda or tea with sweetener on this diet.
* Use this diet for 3 consecutive days each week.
* After 3 days of dieting, you can eat your usual food,
But Do Not OVER Eat!!!
* After 4 days of normal eating, start back on your 3 day diet.

Now, let me just say a couple things to ease minds out there--- yes I plan to add enough of each food to reach my caloric requirements--- this diet only gets you to about 900 calories or so. Also, I can't handle tuna for dinner, so usually substitute it for chicken. The thing about this plan is that if you follow it at least 2 meals a day, it does typically give you a good weight change.

NO it is not a long-term solution!! I don't plan for it to be... more like a jumpstart to drop a couple pounds that my body randomly put on since last weekend's 5k that is not going away! I don't know what I did wrong, but that weight is not leaving my body and I don't have a CLUE why. So, stay tuned to see if I can stick with it enough to make a body difference over the next fews days!

I hope this works! I'm thinking you're just gaining more muscle than loosing fat and hopefully when a good balance hits you'll stop dropping again. It seems like a vicious diet but hey you get ice cream!!!

Good luck Lil! I'm here for support. Also I learned that sometimes eating more calories one day and less the next is helpful for busting a plateau. 1300 one day 1500 the next etc etc.

Oh of course not! It is actually called "The Cardiac Diet".... it is just a fad diet that I came across through a friend who works in a Drs office. I tell ya, it works... but you do have to beef it up a bit to get enough calories. :)
