What have have I been up to?

Wednesday, August 29, 2012

Hey everyone! I know it has been a long time, but I am still around!

Since surgery it has been really slow going for me-- I took a long time to heal and had a good amount of trouble getting my body to adjust to one less organ-- but I think we are on track now! I have started tracking my food again but I am going to take this really, really slowly. While I want to drop the extra 10 pounds I have put on over the summer since surgery, I want to allow my body to ease into the process... less intestinal upset that way, I think. So, my plan is to focus on tracking and staying in my range-- not so much losing weight at first. I am aiming for slow weight loss-- maybe a pound a week-- nothing drastic.

I have still been struggling with my anxiety issues-- we have been playing with my medication dosage to try and get a good dosage that works but doesn't work TOO well, you know? I look forward to feeling up to exercising soon because I think hat will help. I have every intention of getting back on my elliptical as soon as I get a handle on my eating--- one thing at a time in order to not overwhelm myself, you know? The anxiety has made it hard to be social outside my home... but I am really working on it. You can see how Spark would have been really hard for me during this time.

What else? Oh! I did some pictures of Will recently for a contest on Facebook:

If you like the picture, please go to this link and click like for me to help us win? If we win, we get some sign art from an artist I really like! If we win, I plan to frame the art and put it in Will's playroom with a blown up version of the picture I took of him! We had so much fun doing this shoot.

If you want to help, you can share the picture with your friends and ask them to click the picture then press like--- the vote won't count unless they click the picture before they press like though.

What else? Hmm.. I did a Hunger Games party a couple weeks ago... GREAT fun. You can see the pictures here:

You will see MJ in those pictures, even.

This past weekend we went to the beach... I haven't uploaded those pictures yet, but plan to work on them today. AND... Will start Kindergarten on Monday. THAT was hard. I made it to the car after dropping him at his classroom before I bawled, at least. The first day he fell asleep at 6:30, on top of his dinner and slept straight through the night until 6am. Poor guy. Yesterday he seemed much better off... was happy when he got off the bus and stayed awake until bedtime. He has already made some new friends and I really like his teacher. 2 days of real school (not just Mother's Day Out) have been really good for him already.

Anyway, I know I haven't been around-- but please know that I DO care about you guys. Things have been rough for me personally and I have had to adjust to doing things a bit differently. I need to take this slowly and one thing at a time in order for me to be ok with doing it at all... so, bear with me. Love you all!

Seems like you are on the right track to recovery - slowly but surely.

Hey Lillie! I'm glad you are updating people. Since I've already liked and shared Will's picture half a dozen times and I know what the pictures look like (fun stuff!) from the HG party it isn't a biggie for me, but the links don't work! Might want to double check them. Facebook is so hinky sometimes!

I hope you will continue to blog and post now and then. Made me smile to get on first thing this morning and see your name up there on the scroll bar!

Welcome back Lillie! We've all been busy but it seems the new school year has brought a lot of us back. I don't know all the details to what's been going on, but I wish you a speedy recovery! Sounds like you are doing things the right way, taking it one step at a time! Congrats on your son starting kinder. My oldest is now a high school sophomore, and it feels like she started kinder just yesterday! Hang in there - it's great to see you back!!

i hope your recovery has gone well--I know having my gallbladder out about a year and a half ago was worse than either of my c-sections, recovery-wise, but I stopped being as sick as having it was making me, so it was well worth it. Best wishes!

Glad your on the way to healing Lillie. Try throat lozenges or sugar free candy to help the throat some. Lemon or citrus will also help stimulate saliva production to keep your throat moist. For the pain to your abdomen try gently placing a pillow over your incisions when you're going to cough, sneeze or clear your won't take the pain away completely but it will support or brace your abs some and hopefully reduce the pain.

Yeah, being intubated sucks and really makes for a sore and scratchy throat. I'm really happy seeing you posting/blogging already. Modern medicine is awesome. 5 years ago the surgery required AT LEAST an overnight stay and before laproscopic surgery it required about a week hospitalization! Rest, heal, and get back to us soon!

Surgery Is Scheduled

Tuesday, May 01, 2012

So, I met with the surgeon today and am now scheduled for cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) on May 7th-- next Monday. I have pre-surgery testing scheduled for this coming Friday.

The surgeon was really nice, VERY knowledgeable (as expected) and well-spoken. He was honest and explained that with my gastritis he can't guarantee my symptoms will 100% disappear because it is hard to say which symptoms are gallbladder and which are gastritis-- I appreciated his honesty. We discussed that with a 1% ejection fraction it is a matter of time before my gallbladder gets to completely non-functioning and he seemed surprised I was not worse off.

He explained about post-cholecystectomy disorder which is when people experience lots of loose bowels following their cholecystectomy... he explained that it is a real thing he has seen but that studies have yet to find a reason why some people get it. He gave me lots of info and treated me gently but intelligently. All too often doctors tend to treat me like I am a child and I am not sure why! I liked that he told me the honest truth about what to expect from this surgery... it makes me feel informed fully because that he wasn't like, "everything will be awesome!"

ANYWAY-- it looks like at least 1 week of down time followed by at least of month of restricted lifestyle and several months of restricted foods.

I just can't wait to get this thing out and see if I feel better finally!!! So, please keep me in mind over the next 2 weeks! I will be sure to come back and update on how the surgery went.

My sister and my best friends mother both had their gb's removed. Interestingly - they both reacted differently in what they cannot eat nowadays. My sister - drinks coffee; my bf's mom cannot. My sister cannot eat onions, my bf's mom can. My sister continues to have issues.. my bfs mom does not.
Keeping you in my thoughts!

Well when Reiko got her gb out it was immediate relief for a lot of the unexplained symptoms she had been having. Spicey and greasy foods upset her stomach sometimes, but for the most part she's fine.

I pray that everything goes well and that you feel much better afterwards! I'm sure they're going to do laprascopic surgery so you should have very tiny scars like she does! Thank God for advancements in technology!

I'm so glad this is finally going to be done. I'm praying for a smooth surgery, a fast recovery, no loose b.m.s (Donny did experience this), and that most if not all of the symptoms are related to the gall bladder and with surgery they will disappear. Love you, my friend.

Tonight's meal was a bad idea

Monday, April 23, 2012

Just because something is very low fat, it doesn't mean my body will accept it. Tonight is a great example of this as I am writing this from the comfort of my bed., flat on my back-- it isn't easy so this will be short.

My Father offered to pick up some Taco Cabana (a local Mexican fast food place here in SA-- generally high quality food)... with me feeling badly and Mike mowing today, we went for it. I got a chicken fajita bowl with rice and black beans.

Just as a finished half the bowl (about all I was going to eat anyway), I started getting stabbing pains in my back. *sigh* They are not knock-down, drag-out gallbladder pains, but they are sharp.

So, lesson learned-- no Taco Cabana.

Well hell....we HAVE to find something yummy you can eat! There should be a link on the web "restaurant dishes and foods people with gall bladder issues can eat comfortably". Sucks that there isn't. I hate that you have to experiment with sometimes painful results to find out what you can and can't eat. Very disheartening for you, I know. Hang in there, sweetheart.

Thank you for updating us, Lillie! I've missed you. I know you'll feel sooo much better after the surgery. I had emergency gall bladder surgery about 9 years ago, so I know how painful it is right before it needs to come out. I'm wishing you a swift recovery.

Lillie, I am glad to hear from you but saddened that you are going through all this. The main thing is that you are doing the right things to take care of yourself. and that you are making yourself a priority.

Just know that we are all praying for you and that, if you need anything, we are here for you.

Keep strong and feel better. Take care!

Okay, I understand postponing surgery until the after the 5th, and that you have to have it before the 18th for the reception....just be well enough to at least come to the park and sit and be catered to on the 27th of May...okay? Wouldn't be the same without you!

I'm glad we know what it is now and that you are going to get it taken care of. You've been sick with this for way too long and I need my friend to feel like herself again. Love you!
