Is this what a plateau feels like?

Wednesday, July 18, 2012

Well I think I've hit my first plateau... after 32.5lbs I haven't dropped a pound since the beginning of the month :( Anyone have any tips to break through this? I've been eating fine.. exercising a few times a week... so frustrating but I know I just have to keep the mindset this is a lifestyle change.. not all about the number.. help!

I posted this same thing last week. So my weigh-in is tomorrow and from the looks of the scale these past few days it may be the same story. I changed my eating habits starting on Monday and upped my exercise intensity and time. I'll see what happens. I'll wait until next week before I change anything again. Give it a full week. These are recommendations I got. To shake things up, monitor my eating closely and increase my water intake. I've really focused on intensity of my workout. Wish you well and congratulations on the weight loss thus far.

3 Month Check in!

Wednesday, June 06, 2012

Well I am officially 3 months into my lifestyle change and really loving the progress I've made! So far I am 23 pounds lighter (YAY!!), I have definitely seen a change in how my clothes are starting to fit but most of the weight looks like it came off of my back, lower back/behind, chest and neck/face. The stomach will come but booo why cant it be the easy part!

My fitness level seems like it has went from 0-100!! I started out not being able to walk from my car to work in the morning without being "uncomfortable" and now pass people coming in! I switched my cardio from elliptical training only this week to walk/jogging.. I am hoping to run a 5k in September of this year with my workout buddy. Surprisingly even when I was an athlete in high school and college I HATED running with a passion but have a new appreciation for the burn. We'll see if this changes when I start running outside instead of on the treadmill.

One thing that has bothered me since starting to lose weight is commentary from people around me.. a few things has been said from family members about HOW my body is changing (IE my butt seems to be the first thing to really noticeably shrink, along with my chest [2+ inches from here]). Its hard for people who have never weight more than 150lbs to understand that this is not going to make me "beautiful" over night.. another thing has been how Im losing the weight. Everyone wants to know what my secret is, what diet I'm on etc. Somehow being honest and saying "I actually eat more often than I did before now, just count my calories and make better choices" isn't a good answer so people think I'm hiding something (diet pills etc).

I am however so blessed for my boyfriend encouraging me every step, even when I cry because I don't want to work out or forget that this journey will take a long time and I did not get this way overnight!! My workout buddy as well has been my right hand man, we both have a significant amount to lose and its great to have someone who refuses to let me quit!

Until next time!

I am so happy for you. People are just like that, always wanting a quick fix. I read a quote someone had on Spark yesterday. It said, "You don't always get what you wish for. You get what you work for." This is really true. I have been wishing that I could lose all this weight that I need to lose, but to be honest, I have not been putting in the work. I am going to do better, and in the meantime, you keep up the good work.

New Workout Card

Friday, April 13, 2012

I started my 2nd phase of workout this week (Tuesday)at the gym ,they have a card for each "set", every time you go in and do the routine on the card they mark it until you're full to move onto the next challenging one. This card was more using your body weight.. less machines, more extension of the muscles. My legs have felt like the mob beat me with bats for the past 3 days!!! Im blaming it on the lunges, I know they're part of the "booty work" (aside from my belly, I really focus on this the most!! No square booty over here) but jeeeeeze my more muscles were in shock. Today is the first time I've been able to take the stairs again at work, I havent done this routine since the first day to let them heal a little, just water aerobics so tomorrow will be day 2..I know by the end of this one I will be much, much stronger, looking forward to the feeling!! :)

Blue, who would have thought lunges would get me like that! I was carrying a 15 pound weight, not sure what it was but those muscles havent moved like that since I played sports in college a few years ago! Much better today though :)

I'm not sure I'd quite want to work my muscles to the point I couldn't get up and down the stairs, but I do love how they come back stronger after!

Almost to the 10lb Mark!

Friday, March 30, 2012

I've been crazy busy for the past 2 weeks, we had our 2 year anniversary and then birthday parties, family reunion meetings and work I've been pooped! But I haven't let any of it get in the way of my journey.. weighed in yesterday at a cool 311.8 and I feel amazing. I've made it a point to do ab workouts 5 days a week and I can really tell a difference, so far almost 2 inches gone from the belly in just 4 weeks. I've also noticed my posture is changing, my body is looking more athletic like it used to when I was in high school playing sports.

Something is different this time, I've never really committed myself to changing my body (other than the over eating, sitting on my behind and never looking at a box to see what Im really eating.. boy was that easy to commit to!) so to see that the work I've put in is really paying off makes this all that much better.

I've noticed weekends are really hard for me to stay on track.. I think my work schedule helps because I know at my first break I eat this etc and everything I eat is in my bag, not somewhere in the cupboards or fridge waiting to be made. I'm going to try to bag up all of my snacks and meals for the weekend as well to see if that helps me stay on track.

I am 12.8 pounds away from my first goal of 299.. hope to reach that by the first week or two of May!!

I know what you mean about working out the abs - it's amazing just how good it can feel and the change that can be seen quickly, and it just keeps getting better.

Mid-week Slump Slump Slump

Wednesday, March 14, 2012

Between daylight savings time and TOM this week has definitely been a struggle. No motivation to work out, but I've still been going as un-enjoyable the workouts have been. emoticon

Portion control has been a little hard for me this week as well, I'm thinking of buying a food scale to make sure I'm not eating too much of the things I like (Chobani 0% fat plain greek yogurt with fruit and honey mixed in has become my weakness at breakfast!)

I suggest a digital scale with both oz and grams. It makes it much easier. I have had a couple and this is my fav. Good luck on kicking your slump!

Cresha, Im not to the "enjoying" myself yet.. I used to be very active when I was in high school so I cant wait until I get to the point where I get that workout high again!! Funny, I actually had it the very first day I worked out but not so much this week, TOM is killing me!!

Debbie you're right, it keeps me super full!! I just need to make sure Im only eating 1 serving since I've been buying the big tub (cheaper and all of that sugar that comes in the little cups with the fruit turns me off)

Sorry that you've hit a mid-week slump. Hopefully things improve. Make sure when you workout, it's something that you enjoy so that it will be easier to stick to. I have always been one to say that I hate working out, but when I started working out, I found that I just loved the feeling afterwards and the changes in my body. Since I have slacked off, I miss the feeling. Now I've started doing some enjoyable workouts and have to force myself to quit some days. A food scale is always a good choice. It really helps you put things into perspective (like cereal). I was eating way too much.

Greek yogurt has a lot of protien. It should keep you full longer.

Good luck on your weight loss journey!
