I weighed myself before bed last night and it said 169.4. I weighed myself this morning and it said 161.8. Apparently I lost 7+ lbs while sleeping!!!! LOL
I guess I'll just have to start trackign other measurements. emoticon

Every Little Bit Helps

This is a saying from my deceased grandmother, so if you find it a little crude, forgive me. "Every Little Bit Helps" said the man who peed in the ocean!
I think this is something we need to remember. I started this journey 5 months ago and it's been slow going. In my opinion I should have lost twice as much weight as I have. But I had a check-in appointment with my doctor yesterday and she was pleased to see the progress. I was so surprised. I was so sure I wasn't doing well enough but she told me to just keep going, which I will and maybe try to stick more to the lower end of the calorie range.
So remember, every little bit helps...

  I totally agree....Every little bit DOES help!!! Keep up the great work. I know I sometimes get too overwhelmed with the big picture and have just decided to break it down into baby steps and little chunks! Keep up the great work!!! emoticon

Pulling it all together

Well, I decided to make a change in my life and start selling Partylite products cause I LOVE them, think it will be fun, and just want a different opportunity. I think this will dovetail nicely with my spark goals because it is all about motivation and I now have two picture collages (I have to see if I can add them to my pics) with my goals/motivations for losing weight and earning money. The final piece has to do with what I learned at the New Jersey Library Association conference this week. I am a visual learner therefore I process thing more readily if I can see them! That is why is is important to have these pictures in front of me and participating in two activities that encourage me to visualize my goals this way will really help to change my life.

So I'm starting to now find ways to get a little bit of exercise in when I don't have time to hit the gym. Mainly it has been walking at lunch and the fact that the weather is nicer is probably a big impetus. Nonetheless I'm very excited about it.

Also, when I went out for a Moraccan feast last night, I skipped the pita bread and paid attention to my portions. It meant I was less stuffed at the end and only went over by 200 calories instead of 500.

Small steps. Slow and steady wins the reace.

    Great choices! Walking at lunch is a super idea, too. We have a large park next to where /i work and I keep telling myself I am going to get out and walk at lunch... thanks for reminding me that I need to do this! I did something similar with my food yesterday. I was caught at a relative's house and the only thing she had in her fridge was cold cuts.... not the best choice! But I decided to simply have a few slices of each (ham, cheese, salami) and roll them up and eat without bread. No use adding insult to injury by eating a huge roll on top of the meat! And I was fine. Yo go, girl!

The evils of Food Network

I once heard an NPR news report that compared the food networks shows to porn and I think they are right. It's decadent, lustful, and too much is bad for you. Unfortunately for me Food Network is my husbands background channel of choice. I can't stand it. I mean I enjoy the occassional food network show -- Alton Brown's food science, Ina Gartner's simple but decadent meals, The Challenges, but night after night I fell like it is my nemesis. It makes me want to eat. It causes me to lust after rich decadent desserts, and full meals It's an effort not to run to the kitchen So now I am asking my husband to change the channel and that is the best tool I have in my fight against this nemesis.

    I really understand where you're coming from. I wonder why, when my hubby has sports radio and sports on TV going on and on, I don't feel compelled to run out and shoot some hoops or throw some passes! emoticon Wish it did work that way! I'm glad you have battled the nemesis and have, at this point, not been ruined!! Keep being strong!! I think it takes a family to change a life style. Even better if the whole family changes their life style, but I know that has to be an individual choice!

We got rid of cable all together! Now, there's an option your sweetie could consider. Sure saves money and there are only 2 cooking shows I'm aware of on Saturday morning-PBS! We're happy with that and our kids are more active!

    Food Network is evil! I know because I watch it! LOL I'm obsessed with Diners Drive-Ins and Dives as well as Alton. Alton is pretty informative with me wanting to study to be a cook.. But DD&D is bad bad bad! It shows all the nummy greasy diner food you can get all over the country..and some are even located dangerously close to me. Best thing you can do is have him turn the channel.. I make my fiance do it for me because I can't bring myself to do it!

    It depends on my mood -- sometimes I can sit and enjoy the food vicariously on FN -- but other days it really makes me crazy hungry. I have to confess, though, by looking at Emeril and Mario Batelli's current body size and shape, it is a wakeup call -- obviously Mario is a lot more heavy than Emeril -- but it is clear their food choices have made them what they are today. So those luscious items come with a high price tag -- our health!

    Ahhhh, I can understand the reference to Porn - I'm into the Home & Garden channel myself. But, I refuse to have the tv on 24/7 Time to get the hubby into Audio books . . . .
