Officially Back in the Game :-)

Monday, August 11, 2008

Okay, I'm officially back in the game. When I was back into the habit of exercising, I still wasn't doing as much as I was before. I'd work out hard, but not as hard as before or on as many days as before. I would also not do everything. I can't tell you the last time I've actually done my core workout. :(

I have 2 different schedules, my weight lifting schedule & my cardio schedule. On my weight lifting schedule, I break down my workouts. MWF are for my upper body & T/Th are for my lower body. I do core M-F. I call it my PUSH workout since I'm pushing my body to heigher heights physically. :-)

August PUSH workout link:

August Cardio schedule (August Challenge Level 3 for SP Class of March 16-22, 2008 Sparkteam) link:

I am noting my progress daily on my community journal:

My ultimate goal is to go back to burning 4000+ calories per week, do ALL of my PUSH workouts as scheduled, maintain my healthy eating habits, and get back to the low amount of salt that I used to consume. Although my food has gotten more varied, I miss the ease of how I used to eat. It was either vegetables & fish or pasta & fish, so it was never much thought to figure out what I was eating for lunch or dinner. I'm going to incorporate more of those cleaner meals while still keep the variation I have now. :-)

I came across your blog too and damn you carried 180 lbs better than I can carry 125! It's amazing how my un-curvy body shape dictates how much weight I can "pull off" before looking proportionate! =(

Consider yourself blessed!

Huzzah! for your hard work!

Back on Track

Sunday, July 20, 2008

I'm back on track! After stopping working out since June, I am now back to it. For at least the past two weeks I have really stepped up my cardio. I stepped on the scale this morning and am 190lbs! Yay! After I'd stopped doing cardio I was consistently 195lbs pounds despite my lifting weights and eating fattier foods (so I could hit my calories without gorging myself). That was good though because I was supposed to be maintaining my weight. Like I said before, I now lift 30lbs heavier so I lost fat and gained muscle. Now at 190lbs, I'm still getting stronger, but am losing more fat. :-)

I've also gotten to the point where I'm like 50% vegetarian. I have never been much of a beef lover, chicken has lost its appeal majorly in the past 5 or 6 years, and I stopped eating pork last October (for my birthday). Lamb, veal, venison (which I like to call Bambi), etc have never been my meats of choice. On the other hand, I looooooooooooove fish! I eat tilapia and salmon every week, I gotta have it! lol If its not fish, then I'm eating Morning Star products (they are the best!!!!). I also love Nature's Promise Char-Grilled Soy Burgers....they similate an actual burger and taste very, very delicious.

I'm jogging again! I'm jogging again! This time I'm able to be consistent with it since my knee problems are not as bad as I thought they were. Maybe its just because I want it so bad, but I'm certain I can hear the noise in my right knee less and less. It has to be because it tired of making noise, lol, not because of anything I did specifically. I had stopped jogging, but had started back to wearing my heels almost like I used to before. My knees were not acting foolish, so I started back jogging a little bit......just like 5-7 minutes twice a week. Shortly thereafter I found out my knees weren't as bad and so I continued with what I was doing. Nothing ridiculous because I didn't want to make my knees worse, I just wanted to see how they would respond. For some reason I also ended up jogging more period (having to run in the rain, etc.) and my knees handled it fine. I have been consistently jogging for the last couple of days (little spurts....nothing longer than 7 minutes except for today when I jogged 10 minutes twice) and as of this morning, haven't heard the ridiculous noise in my right knee that I expected to hear. I'm still paying attention though.....

As far as lifting weights, I have noticed that my right arm is bigger than my left arm. So obviously, I'm using my right arm more when I'm lifting. I realized that at some point last week and have been trying to watch myself so I use both equally or my left more (so it can catch up with my right arm). I was NOT concentrating on my biceps, but they are what I've noticed has gotten bigger. So obviously, the lifting I'm doing is working my biceps too. Not a problem, I just know I need to focus more on my triceps now. I've gotten a new workout together that I'm now doing. I love it!

EDIT: When I did my lifting this morning, I realized why my biceps are noticeably bigger. The exercise I thought I was doing for my triceps is actually working my biceps because I'm doing it incorrectly. When the weight gets too heavy I have a tendency to do it wrong just so I can finish my sets. I never paid attention before because I just knew I was working my triceps because I could "feel it" while I was doing the last of the set. When I paid attention this morning, I realized that feeling is coming from my biceps. Since I noticed it, I will decrease the weight and work my triceps like I'm supposed to be doing! lol

This is exactly where I want to be, as far as working out goes. I've been here before and I can remember how good it felt to be in the best shape for that moment and how happy I was. Girl, you are a force to be reckoned with. It takes so much time and effort to do what you're doing and I so respect that. I said it before and I'll say it again, you are my motivation. I can feel your happiness and I WILL get there.

Back to Cardio :-)

Wednesday, July 16, 2008

In the beginning of June I stopped all cardio and concentrated on weight lifting. Its now been a little over a month of weight lifting, during which I must admit, I was not consistent in the first couple of weeks. As of yesterday I lift 30lbs more than I did a month ago. Yay!!!

The original reason I stopped all cardio wasn't as bad as I thought and since my weight lifting is obviously working, I'm going back to doing cardio. Even though I stopped, I still lost fat, but gained muscle (can't wear 14s at all anymore and I have more room in my 12s). Muscle wieghs more than fat and burns more calories! Yeah baby!!!

I'm excited to be back to doing cardio. I've gotten other news too.... apparently the issue with my knees isn't as bad as I thought. What's that mean? That means I'm going back to jogging! Woo hoo!

Stopping All Weight Loss IMMEDIATELY!!!

Monday, June 09, 2008

Well, not actually stopping. I'm just not going to burn 4200+ calories per week anymore. I'll be trying to not even burn 200 a week. Let's see how well I can do know its going to be hard for me.

I am going to focus on strength training & toning my body as it is. I realize I've lost a significant amount of weight in a short period of time (lost 55lbs since Feb 08) and am now taking time out to concentrate on toning everything before I start losing weight again. I do not want to be able to tuck my skin. Right now, I couldn't tuck it if I tried (which is a good thing). There is another reason why I am stopping all weight loss, but its not something I just really want to put out there for the world to read. However, if you send me a message, I'll tell you without a problem. Some people think I'm being sensitive, but whatever! :-)

While my fitness minutes are barely going to increase, my food intake will increase considerably. I now have to eat 2230 calories per day to maintain my current weight (doing 30 minutes of exercise 3 times a week). I will continue my current eating habits though, as I was never on a diet, but a mission to change my lifestyle. Btw, I was successful in changing my lifestyle. :-)

Suggestions anyone? I plan on doing pilates & yoga while focusing on exercises that will strengthen my upper body and core.

Strength training and Toning is a good way to get those muscles in the right places that they should be in and to sculpt them the way they should be looking without any surgery or extreme measures.

You have came a long way to loose the weight that you did and you should be proud of yourself no matter what others may say or think it was a positive thing that you have done for yourself. Keep up the good work and never loose sight of your end results.
Please keep in touch if there is any thing I can do for you or just to chat to I am a mail away.

It sounds like (or "as if"-for your mom) you have really thought this through. I agree that toning is probably a good choice now, especially since you lost weight so rapidly! Let me know if I can lend support in any way.

Should I Be Happy or Worried??

Tuesday, June 03, 2008

Let me give background numbers so you all can understand where I'm coming from (gosh my mom would be upset to know I used "from" at the end of a this instance, it just sounds better that

250 lbs - Feb 1
235 lbs - Mar 17
209 lbs - May 2
204 lbs - May 23
200 lbs - May 30
196 lbs - Jun 2

I got on the scale arbitrarily yesterday late morning & the frickin' scale said I was 196lbs. Impossible! I was already losing weight fast, but if the scale is accurate, I'm losing weight waaay too fast. Actually, it can be right, I don't mind because I just picked back up with strength training. Wait a minute, that might make it go faster. Uh oh. I'm going to think on this so I can figure it out. Only change is I upped the calories consumed...I must've given my body EXTRA fuel & now its showing me what it can do with it. lol Maybe I'll spend less time doing cardio and do more strength training instead. Hmmm.... I need the weight to be gone for career reasons, but I need it to go nicely. I don't need it to disappear like some magic wand was waived because what won't disappear is the skin it will surely leave behind. Afterall, there's only so much strength training I can do.....I do not want to bulk up!

BJMOONEY-- My mom then asked me if he had English degrees. I told her I'd research it and get back to her. lol

Sharon-- No problems as far as I can tell. Every now & again I eat foods that are high (for me anyway) in salt.... that might be what's doing it.

Martie-- I generally only weigh every 2 weeks. If I had stuck to that, I probably wouldn't have noticed. lol

NETTY129-- Everything I'm doing now is my lifestyle. I've gotten to the point where I don't want the fatty/greasy foods because I know what it does to your body, I can pretty much tell how many calories something has, I crave fruits, my craving for veggies has increased, and I have to exercise at least once a day or I feel like I'm not doing me (translate to not taking care of myself). Physically, I feel like I can do anything after I've run 50 miles without stopping. lol Mentally, I feel like I've accomplished a very important goal (which it is). Emotionally, I feel better. I'm more relaxed to go to sleep or more alert to go about my day. Btw, strength training, when done at a rapid pace (check out Jillian Michaels) does qualify as cardio. Usually when I do strength train, I will do 5 or 6 exercises right behind each other. However, that's nowhere as close on the cardio scale as say, walking 6 miles in 69-72 minutes (my favorite way to start my weekend mornings).

MSDIAMOND-- I'm trying my best not to be alarmed. I'm actually doing pretty well... I'd forgotten all about it until I saw this blog & wondered who'd commented on it. lol

You are doing terrific! I would try to keep it around 2 pounds per week also. That way you're not losing it too fast. You want to learn more of a lifestyle change, healthy eating and exercising that you can keep on doing even after your weightlosss. Strength training is good for building muscle, endurance, strength. So, you will not see weightloss with that, just cardio. And also, you will not bulk up when strength training. You need alot of testosterone for that. And we woman don't have enough to you're fine. Anyway, keep up the great work! You are doing a wonderful job!! emoticon

You should be proud of yourself it is a step in the right direction for you. Every small step we take is in it self a big reward and at the end of the day that reward would amout to something special and lasting. Keep up the good work but also keep track of your weight loss that is not to fast because I have experienced it before if you loose to fast you might gain in back with extra.

Good luck on your journey ahead and let us now how you are doing.
God bless

You seem to be loosing around 4 lbs per week- but then you have a couple where your doing a little less than or equal to 2 lbs per week- are you having problems with your skin now?
It will take a bit for your skin to catch up- If you could figure out what you did the weeks you only lost 2 lbs a week that would be great just to let your body catch up, but I can't believe how well you are doing- I am so proud of you success. You are not loosing that much faster- so keep up the good work and see if you can reach goal.

I would be happy... but careful... Sharon
