Gardening Workout

Tonight, I headed oubtside with my pruning tools thinking I would prune a few branches. Once I started, I went into full landscape beautification mode and I trimmed a lot of shrubs and a tree. Then I attacked the overgrown ivy behind and under the barberry bushes on the side of the garage. I pulled up a lot of ivy! And endured a lot of scratches - it's not called a BARBerry for nothin'. Two hours later, I was done, and sweating. That counts as a workout in my book. emoticon

Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

Today's agenda: do a 40 minute yoga session, get back to writing, make appointment with a neurologist who specializes in back and neck issues. My health improves daily and it's gonna get even better, because I am fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14).

Easy Fat Free Bean Dip

I was just making Loaded Nachos (a low cal recipe from Rocco DiSpirito) and realized I forgot to buy bean dip. I created an easy bean dip recipe totally by accident with a can of fat free refried bean, Rotel tomatoes and a few other ingredients. The recipe doesn't note number of servings, because I'm not really sure of this. My family ate a good part of the recipe as soon as they figure out it was so tasty! Maybe I'll get a chance to plug the recipe into the Spark Recipes tools some time.

New Job, New Routine

I started a new job this week, and it's going to be a huge transition from the flexibility of working in my home office to the structure of "now I'm at work"/"now it's time for me or family". The hours are part time Mon-Thurs and don't start until 8:30 or 9, so my goal was to get in an a.m. workout on the 9:00 days and then workout after work on the other days.

Well, I managed to get in a workout the first 9:00 day, but didn't get anything done the other three days. I was so tired both in the morning and afternoon, probably from the stress of starting a job with very little training and constantly having to figure out what to do with information I received. I did not go to bed on time because I had appointments or meetings on Mon-Wed evenings, then made supper, and then tried to catch up with things I used to do during day. One night, the crockpot chicken burned (I need to use a smaller crock for that recipe) so we had frozen pizza. Just great for the diet. Thurs., my boss needed to get a proposal out and I offered to stay late to get it done so we could get the business. But, that meant no time to make the healthy cod dinner I planned and instead, I stopped at the store on the way home and bought frozen fish patties (wow - they've really shrunk down over the years, just like ice cream containers!) and waffle fries. At least I also had a spinach/blueberry/feta cheese salad with it.

I have 4 days off, and I will get some planning done so that hopefully, I stick to my exercise routine next week. Having 3 evening appointments at this time really messed things up for me, but I couldn't reschedule. Next week's calendar shows clear evenings throughout the week, so I will do better.

  


28 Day Bootcamp

Coach Nicole's 28 Day Bootcamp is really helping me to stick to getting in daily exercise. While some of the workouts are short, they still get me sweating, and I usually add some time on the treadmill to the shorter workouts. I like the variety! Almost done with week 2.

    The one thing I have to be careful with while doing the Boot Camp workouts is that there is a lot of lateral arm moves with light weights. My core is so weak right now, and I have back/neck problems from a car accident years ago, so can't do those moves with the weights...yet! Even though it will likely take me weeks, if not months, to get strong again, I have every intention of doing so.

    You've planted a bootcamp seed here. I'm starting out with my pedometer daily to get a realistic idea of where I'm "at" for taking the next step. Might just be the bootcamp. Thanks for sharing! Continued success to you in bootcamp, too!!
