First two weeks of school is over and it has been a wild ride so far - too many kids packed into classrooms designed for smaller classes. At least they seem to be a sweet bunch but adding to the problem is the fact that several barely speak English. At least I teach math, not language arts.
My Sparking has been cut down to 2-3 times a week because frankly when I walk in the back door, I'm ready to go to bed - and have a couple of nights. This morning after 12 hours sleep, I tackled a flower border and filled a lawn/leaf bag with weeds. That task netted me 240 minutes of cardio which was a double bonus as I've not had a lot of exercise this week except walking the halls of the school.
Still waiting for word on approval of my lap band surgery.

First week of school was a killer and my $55 french manicure didn't last the weekend. The hand spa thing was nice though.
Andy Rooney once said that when cookies got new and improved, somehow the cookie never got any bigger. That's my take on this school week as well as the coming year. Too many students crammed into a room, the lowest academically clumped together while the smarter - insert whiter - kids are bundled together at the other end of the hall in smaller groups with better materials. Somehow I thought all of that had ended along about 1965. Instead of no child left behind, we seem to be pursuing a policy of leaving them all behind, either academically or socially.
Well, this is not a rant day. For one thing, I'm too busy; for another, I'm too grateful for a job. Y'all have a great weekend!

If you have never been to a spa, you owe it to yourself to go at least once. Now, I've been to the beauty shop and the nail salon, etc. but a spa is entirely different and cool. All my budget would allow yesterday was a facial wax and "ultimate spa manicure" but I'm making plans already for my January self-birthday present and will tuck my blow money away accordingly.
The manicure was delicious - and looks gorgeous with my own nails done in a french manicure. Additionally, my hands were exfoliated, wrapped in warm towels, then massaged. I can't stop holding them myself. LOL My birthday gift will extend the mani to an ultimate spa pedi. I can hardly wait even though it will be too cold by then to show off my toesies.
Is this hedonistic, me, me, me? You bet and every now and again, a girl has to do what a girl has to do.

As I'm about to back out of my driveway, this is almost the antithesis of a blog but I wanted to make a quick comment about points and trophies. When I got my last trophy in July, I thought it would take forever to accumulate 5,000 points for the next one. I got busy and huddled and posted, exercised and tracked, and had my best month ever in July. Or so I thought.
This month, knowing I would be going back to school mid-month, I knew I had to rack up as many points as I could at the first of the month. Sooooooo, here I am at mid-August and have exceeded my total July points with the rest of the month to go. My goal is a 2,500 point month and I'm halfway there.
PS - only a couple thousand points to my next trophy.

Yuck! I used the unflavored in some Crystal Light and it tasted awful. I haven't tried the chocolate yet but will put it in cold skim milk. The dietitian gave us some samples to try as we line up our protein supplement for the post-op period. I'm pretty sure I'm going to use Slim Fast Optima because it tastes good.
My visit to the nephrologist went well although I did wind up with an additional med for blood pressure - that makes three in all. He was supportive of the lap band surgery and thinks I will probably be able to start dropping meds after I've lost the first 50 pounds. I hope he is correct.
