Trip to the Zoo

Sunday, May 23, 2010

If you're anywhere in range of Tyler, Texas, don't miss a chance to go to Caldwell Zoo. This has to be one of the premier zoos anywhere: well-cared-for animals, clean environment, kid friendly, great cafe and gift shop, Siberian tigers. My school's fourth grade went a couple of weeks ago and had a wonderful time. Even though it pains me to see wild animals caged, I realize that some of these beautiful creatures would be slaughtered or die in the wild because of man's carelessness.

I particularly enjoyed the Wild Bird Walkabout where you can go into a large aviary and feed the birds treats. A gorgeous white parakeet of some sort made friends with me as soon as I walked in. When I had to leave with my class, I handed my treat stick to a mom holding a tiny toddler and it was a total delight to watch the expression of her face as she held the stick with the bird still perched and gobbling seed. Made my day!

Caldwell has a large picnic area for folks who bring their own picnics as well as the Chakula Cafe where they serve the best chili-cheese nachos in the world. I hadn't been to this zoo for more than 20 years when my niece and nephews were kids but I had such a super time, I'm going back as soon as school is out so I can meander along at my own pace.

I am partial to zoos. I really liked the Fort Worth zoo. The staff was frieindly there too.
I still like the St Louis zoo, on of the best FREE zoos I know. And all that good walking you get in....

My Favorite Spark Goody to Give...

Saturday, May 22, 2010

nearly always comes from the "Fun" tab, in particular the red high heels. To me they symbolize so many things: go kick some butt, new attitude, have some fun, high class lady, etc. I also love the mixed bouquet, the purse, and the gift box. If someone is really down, I may send them a spa gift or if they've met a major goal, a tiara. The big thing is that I try not to let my points just sit around to pile up a big stack-I love giving them away.

The red heels go good with the above.

It's Official: From 2X Down to 1X

Saturday, March 27, 2010

Yep, I'm still a porker but this is the first time in 10 years I'm down this much. I bought a few clothes today and it was a real thrill to find some cute, stylish things I could get into. Onward and downward!

Don't look negatively at yourself (porker). You are down a whole size you should be feeling pretty great about yourself. You have lost weight and had some new stylish things to wear. Great job!

In Just a Few Minutes...

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

...I'm going to score my 15,000 point trophy. If I seem unduly excited, it's because this is the longest I've ever stayed with a "diet" program. I can truly say that SP has become a life program and a life saver. I love you folks!

Tomorrow...a New Trophy

Monday, March 15, 2010

Lord willing, tomorrow I will win my 15,000 point trophy, marking a little over a year I've been sparking. This trophy as well as the almost 40 pounds I've lost since joining Spark People seemed far away this time last year. Now, I know I can make the next 15,000 and the next 40.

As I always tell my students "never, ever give up."

I know I felt like I had really accomplished something when I got my last trophy. It seemed sooooo far away.
I'll look forward to seeing you go over tomorrow.
