Weekend Was Tough

Monday, April 08, 2013

Saturday, I wanted to eat a house and feel like I did, and Sunday I ate fried chicken. And a yeast roll. And rice with gravy. Should I continue? Probably not, just suffice it to say I strayed. Backtracking and back tracking today but this is going to be a bad week. Wednesday and Thursday I will be at the hospital with Mom getting her pacemaker, finally-TG! - and Friday I will be on an audit. Anyway, I'm doing the best I can and I got in an afternoon of yardwork Saturday with lots of help from Bitsee and Peanut.

I think we all have weeks where we decide to sit on the side of the healthy lifestyle road. Sometimes we even head backward over territory we've already covered. It's OK. You WILL hit a less stressful week and get yourself pointed in the right direction. Be gentle with yourself right now while you've got so much going on!

Challenges like this are really hard, Lynn. Just do the best you can and let it go. It is good for us to prepare as much as possible, but sometimes we just have to go with the flow, too. Good luck to your Mom and also to you with the audit! Keep up the great work...it is paying off for you, that I know!! Hugs, Jeannie

You can only do the best you can under the circumstances. When I have weekends or weeks like that, I try to look at how much BETTER it is NOW than it once would have been. Maybe you ate the chicken and the yeast roll - but MAYBE you ate LESS chicken and/or only one yeast roll. Look at the ways you have made progress rather than the fact you had a rough weekend. I would bet that there have been other weekends that were MUCH worse.

This week, take CARE of yourself and be gentle - the stress and worry are TOUGH - make a plan to HELP you do the best you can. Don't beat yourself up if you find yourself challenged and you CHOOSE to eat something you wouldn't normally eat. Will pray for your mom and for you this week.

Lynn, sometimes it's very difficult to stay on track and you derail. But the next day or so, you're "all aboard" again, and you do better than the "little engine that could".
Hang in there girl, Maybe we'll meet on the next train and travel this route together.

you got it right!

For me, the beauty of this site is the lack of judgment. I don't always do as good as I should (and know I could), yet not once has anyone chastised me for not doing it "right" or for gaining some weight back. This fact alone has permitted me a freedom I never experienced with any program I was paying for...AND I've quit judging myself as well. Talk about freedom!!

I think perfection is highly overrated!

Bummer-definitely too much salt!

Thursday, April 04, 2013

Don't you love it when you step on the scales after being so good only to discover your weight is up - 5 #? I knew my fat little feet indicated some problems. Oh well, I go way down on sodium and way up on water, and weigh again about Saturday with hopefully better results.

Work is vexing as heck which just makes me want to eat but so far, so good. Next week will be harder as I will have to be on the road a couple of days and Sonic is my favorite food place. Somewhere I have a wee cooler that I'm going to pack with fruit, cheese, and maybe some makings for a turkey sandwich one of the days but I do have a treat planned: stopping by the Russell Stover outlet for 5# of sugar-free Jelly Belly beans. That's about a year's worth so I don't feel real guilty. The second road day I'm going to give myself permission to have a shrimp and oyster po'boy at a place I haven't been in nearly ten years. Bread is hard for me so I'm going to have them cut the sammie in thirds and will probably eat one and carry the rest home.

My tracking is going to suffer while I'm roadtripping but never fear, I shall return!

Pre-planning for your road trip is great. If you have problems staying within your sodium range you should read Gail's (TORTILLAFLATS) recent blog about her love affair with salt. She has found a great mixture of spices that she loves almost as well as salt.

Hugs,

Jill

Being on the road can certainly be challenging, but it sounds like you have a great plan in place that will keep you relatively healthy and not leave you feeling deprived. Be safe!

Too Much Salt?

Wednesday, April 03, 2013

Tomorrow is weigh day and my feet swelled up like footballs yesterday and have not come down despite my Lasix dosage. I hate that, knowing I have to weigh tomorrow and it will no doubt be up which is such a huge bummer! I had a smalled serving of mixed nuts yesterday afternoon and some pistachios today which don't help the situation. Hopefully if I drink some extra water the salt will move on out or hey it may just be a poor function day or two. I think I have to see the nephrologist some time this month for my yearly tests.

It's raining a little this morning but nothing we can't use. I took Nyquil last night for my stopped up nose and slept like a log but with this weather, I want to crawl back under the covers and instead am stuck at work.

Happy humpday everyone!

Hope you can flush out the sodium with some extra water. I always seem to consume too much sodium even though I try to be careful.

Fell - but not far and not for long!

Tuesday, April 02, 2013

TGEIO or thank goodness Easter is over! but I actually did pretty good. The ham Mom bought was icky with lots of fat. Yes Mom, I really am the best ham-picker in our house. There were enough nice slices for Easter dinner's company but the rest will need to be fried or something, the "or something" probably being frozen until past edible, then tossed. I tripped over the lemon pound cake and the jalapeno cornbread-three slices of one, four of the other but that is as bad as it got and that was over two days so I done good.

My tracking suffered more than anything else because I was out of town a couple of days, busy Easter, and Mom had to go to the hospital yesterday for an arteriogram which took most of the day. With great care, I likely won't lose anything this week but I shouldn't gain either.

Hope all of you had a great holiday weekend and attended at least one Easter service. Jesus is the reason for this season too!

It's important to celebrate, it is part of life and just as good as eating healthy. It's when the overeating is everyday that it becomes a problem. You had a great holiday and now your attitude is "back to normal" so you did GREAT. Have a super week. Hope you mom is ok. emoticon

Glad you had a good Easter. We had ham last night and very little fat on it. Next time you'll have to pick out the ham. Your menu sounds yummy and hey it was a holiday and then now you're moving forward again. Like you said it could always be worse. I hope the test turns out well for your Mom. Sounds like you've been very busy. That helps keep us "out of trouble" emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

You done GREAT - sometimes you really DO have to go with the flow. Also, your ideas about taking care of the ham make good sense. I think you should be really proud of your success. How much worse COULD it have been? I didn't hear tons of candy, or whole cakes. Seems reasonable to me. Prayers for you and your mother and Yes, He is risen indeed.

My mother made a pineapple upside down cheesecake and some other fattening dessert.... I don't know why she does that when she knows that some of us are trying to get better with our health and she herself needs to lose weight. Yes, I ate some of each, and I did pig out on Easter, but like you, I'll get back up.

I would of tripped over that cornbread too. I made a lemon pound cake because my hubby loves it and I don't. Stayed out of trouble that way ---hehe

It is not about what we eat but what He did that makes Easter. Have a great day and emoticon

Strawberry Shortcake and Yes It Was That Cold!

Wednesday, March 27, 2013

Much warmer this am, only 36 degrees up in the country, 43 on my patio. Out here where the prison is there are no highways, loops, streets to store all the radiant heat so I guess that is why it is so much colder. Some days, I go out and get in the truck thinking I want need a coat and when I get 15 miles up the road I'm glad I have one in the back seat. I don't mind the cold but I'm tired of it being 77 one day and 34 the next night. As if I get a choice! LOL

Dessert is strawberry shortcake. I'm trying to be proactive here. There is no way I could resist pie but I'm not that crazy about shortcake. I'll have ham, green beans, a weensy little new potato, and some strawberries and try to stay out of my little grand-nephews jelly beans and chocolate eggs - and keep Bitsee and Peanut out of them. The little boys have never had an egg hunt at my house so they will have to be instructed on keeping the gates closed and not feeding the girls chocolate.

If everyone shows up, there will be 6, possibly as many as 10, besides Mom and I. Hopefully I get a head count tonight. This is the family of my brother who lost his wife in January to complications from diabetes and MRSA. As it is their first holiday without her, and especially as she always made much of the holidays for the little boys, Nathaniel [5] and Ethan [almost 3], I thought this might serve as a distraction for them.

It's been several years since Mom and I entertained them so I'm really nervous about it. My nephew's wife is a bit on the spoiled side, think Michael Kors and valet parking.

Hey, I've made it 10 days and am down 3 pounds!

Hi Lynn, I always seem to get nervous about having guests over for dinner, etc. But, once they are here I always seem to enjoy myself and I know you will have a great time. As you know no matter how well you pre-plan and put your love into your Meal there is no pleasing everyone. God Bless You for being there for your family especially your brother who has just lost his wife. I always try to do as much as I can beforehand in preparing my meal as I hate to have to be in the kitchen almost the entire time my company is here. Happy Easter Lynn.

Hugs,

Jill emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

You will have a great time. Your planning is a wise idea. Even if you don't follow the plan PERFECTLY, you will be a lot more perfect than if you had NO PLAN.

And WOOHOO on the 3 pound weight loss!
