How to Succeed!

Sunday, July 20, 2008

(Photo above is from a wedding I attended this weekend- in Colorado - Same dress as blog a few months ago - this time with more room :-)

And in a completely other direction....

I blatently stole the quote below from Telany's page, but I really like it and I had to! :-) So kudos to Telany for the original posting. I wanted to put it in my blog so that I can read it / find it again!

People who are interested in losing weight:

1. Stick with it until something better comes along.
2. Take action only if they "feel like" doing it.
3. Need to see results in order to stay motivated.
4. Blame people or circumstances for their struggles.
5. Easily give up when they face challenges.

People who are committed to losing weight:

1. Stick with their plans no matter what.
2. Take action whether they feel like doing it or not.
3. Assume that if they stay motivated, results will follow.
4, Take responsibility for their actions.
5. Keep going in spite of challenges or setbacks.

"Stick with their plans no matter what. "

I'd edit this to say "Stick with their plans MOST OF THE TIME. And when they deviate they get right back on plan as soon as they can."

Hiking the Appalachian Trail

Sunday, July 13, 2008

Ok... so I did a teeeeeny tiny bit of the AT! Not the whole thing.

Went for a hike yesterday. Something I would / could never have done in the past. It was a very challenging hike at first... very rough, rocky, steep. But it was great.

Afterwards, we dipped our feet into the lake and it felt like heaven.

In total, about 5 hours of hiking, and about 7 miles hiked. Woohoo! I am hooked. I want to hike next weekend now! AND kayak!

Who is this girl? And when did she decide to become such an active outdoorsy girl? lol

My husband and I like to go hiking at Cooper's Rock State Park in West Virginia. It's probably not like the AT but it's really pretty and really fun. Sometimes we go off the "beaten" path and walk through the woods. Going down isn't bad but coming back up is wicked! I enjoy it too and the time flies on by. You don't even realize how long or far you've walked until you're done.

A day at the gym...in shorts!!

Monday, June 30, 2008

So I went to the (non-airconditioned) gym today, and since it was so hot there, I ditched my usual yoga pants and grabbed a pair of soccer shorts (that I haven't worn in years) instead. I was feeling a little nervous about that for a few reasons. One- I don't really like the look of my legs in shorts. Two- I don't like to watch myself jiggle in the mirrors at the gym. Three- in a word: 'thigh-chafe'.

What a surprise! The jiggle in my legs was suddenly replaced by quad muscles. Where did those come from?! When did my collarbone and cheekbones re-emerge? it was like waking up from a long sleep and discovering that I was suddenly strong and had muscles. And not an ounce of thigh-chafe in sight :-)

I just wanted to keep on that treadmill all day! It just felt so awesome!!

Woo! You rock! I, too, wore a pair of shorts for the 1st time in over a decade this past Sunday as temperatures were up over 90. I was surprised, as well, at how bad I didn't look, lol!!

I am so proud of you! You are doing so great!!!

Holy Cow I've lost weight!

Saturday, June 14, 2008

I tried on the bridesmaid dress today. THis is the one that I was really worried about fitting into last August. I can now put it on and take it off without using the zipper. A very very cool moment. Hubby helped me capture it by taking these photos. I clearly have no perspective of how much I've lost because I was thinking that the dress would be 'a little big' on me. lol.

Tessa, that is WAY COOL! Congrats on your continued progress. I've enjoyed trying my winter clothes on one last time before boxing them up for the season. Most are too big now, so I've decided to give them away instead of storing them. Maybe you need to Freecyle or donate your dress for a needy high school grad.

Groovy new clothes

Tuesday, June 10, 2008

Lately, I've been really enjoying shopping for clothes. This is a new phenomenon for me, because usually I would HATE how I looked in everything. Now I want to buy everything because I'm just so giddy that I'm trying on 10s and 12s. This is one of my latest acquisitions, at a recent event! The red cheeks are due to too much red wine! lol

I've also discovered that Goodwill has great clothes since I don't plan to stay this size for long!!!

WOWZA Ms. Thing! You look amazing in that color and that dress, I love, love, love it!!!! Don't you love buying 10's and 12's? I know I certainly do and yes, I love shopping at Goodwill and Value Village since I don't intend on staying here much longer either ;-)

Great work, keep it up!

Blue is definitely your colour! Congrats on your teeny sized clothes. I agree about shopping at thrift stores; that's been my strategy all along. Shopping for bargains can be fun, too! You look FABULOUS!
