Surgery next week

Monday, September 24, 2012

I've been having some physical problems that have prevented me from exercising. Once I stopped exercising I've had a hard time not gaining back some pounds. I am actually looking forward to getting this surgery done and recovering and then getting back to my life, to exercising, to being a better me!

Me too! Now they're moving it out to Oct 17th. Wish we could just get it done and get it over with.

I hope the surgery (whatever it's for) will bring the pep back in your step.

A Change I Made

Friday, September 21, 2012

This is probably more of a hint than a blog entry. Every morning I start the day with my C&C (coffee & computer). I have had facebook as my opening page on my browser for a couple of years now. I decided a week ago to make my SparkPeople start page my opening page. Now when I open my browser first thing in the morning the first thing I see is SparkPeople. It gets my brain focused on my goals before I do anything else each day.

Church Dinner

Monday, September 17, 2012

Well, I did have a piece of chocolate cake, but I didn't go overboard which is something I find hard to do with the sweets. Doing extra exercise today.

After Church Dinner

Sunday, September 16, 2012

Well, the title says it all. We're having a dinner/lunch after church to say goodbye to our music leader who is moving away. I don't want to miss it, but I will have to be careful to make good decisions. I'm always reading that it's okay to have a treat after you've been losing, but frankly I'm having such a hard time losing that I'm not sure a treat is what I should have. I told myself I'd have a small dessert and that was it. I may just avoid the dessert table all together. We shall see. I'll blog about it later. Maybe knowing I'm going to blog about it later will be the impetus to keep me on the straight and narrow in the buffet line. :)

My First Blog Entry

Saturday, September 15, 2012

I don't really blog, because I'm never sure I have anything to say that anyone will want to read. I decided to give it a try today. I've only been a SparkPerson for 4 days. I joined the SparkCoach two days ago. I've been going through all the articles to read. Wow, so many of them pertain to me and I want to read them all! I just started bookmarking them so I can find them again. I can't possibly go through them all in one day. I'm looking forward to learning some new strategies to help myself lose this weight and keep it off.

I've been doing a combination of dance and exercise with some fun, lively songs. I have a playlist on iTunes specifically for this. It's 40 minutes worth, so I don't really have to keep track of the clock. If I don't make it the 40 minutes I can just add up the time of the ones I did, since it's right there on the playlist. That makes it nice.

Yesterday I wasn't feeling that great and skipped the exercises for the first time since I started. It's not been that long, but today when I did them I never heard so much popping, cracking, ticking and crunching coming from various parts of my body! I won't miss again. It's obviously keeping me limbered up and my joints quieter. :)

I am facing a possible surgery soon. If I have it I'm sure I won't be able to keep my dance/exercise routine while my stitches heal. I'm a little bummed about that, but that's life. I can start over. I will have to be very, very careful what I eat during that healing time, so I don't put any weight on.

I really enjoy my exercise time. I have some fun songs I use and I don't really know how to dance, but I do things like incorporating the Twist in with some arm exercises. I bounce in place to some other arm exercises and do a fast, jogging short run forwards and backwards. I learned the Electric Slide, so I start off with something not quite so fast and do that, it warms me up. Then some lively ones, then another Electric Slide one so I don't just fall flat on my face. I'm not supposed to lift things right now, but after I'm all healed up from surgery, I think I'll add some light weights to my routine.

Well, I guess that's all for now. Be well, eat well, exercise well and enjoy your life all my fellow SparkPeople. :)

Great blog! See - you have plenty to say and people will read it! I like your idea for tracking your minutes by looking at how many minutes of songs have passed on your iTunes. It sounds like you have a good exercise routine. Keep up the great work. And don't worry about the downtime after surgery - it's only temporary. emoticon
