January food diary

Wednesday, January 05, 2011

Instead of tracking every morsel, I'm going to track what I eat here so I don't obsess on calories. It's just how I need to operate at this point. :D

1/4/11: Breakfast: High fiber cereal, .25 cup peanut butter puffins, 3" banana, 1 TB flaxseed, almond milk (40 cal)

Lunch: 100 calorie soup, Popchips (approx 100 cal), vitamin water zero, sliced melon

Dinner: mashed potatoes (potatoes and almond milk), tsp. soy butter, corn, Gardein "chik'n" tender.

Book club snacks (I hosted, so I got to choose!): raw asparagus, snap pea pods, hummus, raw almonds (20?), TJs parmesan crisps (1-2 full crisps total), vitamin water zero.

No time to work out. Go go going till 10:30PM.

1/5/11: Breakfast: hi fiber cereal, .25 cup peanut butter puffins, 25 raisins, 3" banana slices, 1 TB flaxseed, almond milk.

Lunch: 100 calorie soup, pop chips (100 cal), 3 peach halves, vitamin water zero.

Dinner: vegan steak and chik'n stir fry, brown and black rice, raisins.

Snack: my homemade vegan choc. chip whole wheat cookie.

3.1 mile treadmill run

Great idea! Much better than concentrating on numbers.

Restart

Monday, January 03, 2011

So, I've clearly forgotten how obsessive I get when I track BMR and everything I eat, blah blah blah. I can't afford to lose as much sleep as I see coming figuring out what I have eaten, what I will eat and how to create a calorie deficit every day. I'll drive myself crazy! (Last night, already, I couldn't fall asleep until after 12:30 thinking about it all, and had to wake up at 6:15. NOT enough sleep for moi!)

So: starting tomorrow I'm going to continue with the mostly vegan, lower portion, healthy eating lifestyle that DH and I are working together on. I will track it generally (maybe through a daily blog, so I have something to look back on?) as well as track workouts. Hopefully I can drop pounds this way, and not become a crazy woman in the process.

Right now I need to go to bed and try to relax. I'm feeling nervous because of not knowing how many calories I've eaten, not having had time to work out, and thinking about how I"m going to "do well" tomorrow without tracking everything. If I don't switch gears right now, I'll be up all night again. And I'm hosting book club tomorrow night and need to be fresh for my girls! :D

So, tomorrow: a new, less stressed, healthy me reaching out to you healthy, happy, hot Spark mamas! Have a great night, y'all! emoticon

This is so great! I love that your husband is involved, too. Are the kids on board? Very inspiring January 2011 posts so far...thanks Terri! Keep up the great work. xo Liz

Good for you. I know when I was tracking BMR Anorexic Annie was in full force. I couldn't do anything but think about food and how to burn what I ate off. Such a vicious cycle. LOL

I've always wanted to belong to a book club. What book are you reading?

January calorie deficit tracker

Sunday, January 02, 2011

I've done this before and I'll do it now to see if it helps me really track what I'm doing. BMR is the number of calories you burn lying in bed all day. Add to that the calories burned from exercise. Subtract that total from the number of calories eaten in a day to hopefully get a calorie deficit for the day.

My current BMR is 1397

3,500 calories = 1 pound

Here we go!

1/1/10: 1496 cal. eaten - 1397 BMR - 508 cal. burned = CALORIE DEFICIT -409
1/2/10: 2027 cal. eaten - 1397 BMR - 500 cal. burned = CALORIE SURPLUS +130

I remember this! What a great way to track your progress. When I did this I was completely obsessive. I hope you can keep it all in perspective.

From what I've read it's pretty much what you burn doing nothing. But like you, it's inspiring either way.

However, I tend to get obsessive...so I"m finding. I may not actually do BMR, as I thought I would yesterday. Maybe sometimes, so I can just check in once in a while. WE'll see...

Thanks for your comment, and for checking in!!

I don't think BMR is laying in bed all day exactly, but I like what you are trying to do. There is a Spark report that gives you these numbers too. I don't check it every day but I do like to look at it occasionally. It usually inspires me. emoticon

Day 2 - fair to midland

Sunday, January 02, 2011

I'm not being negative. I just ate too many calories. Would have been fine, if the Mexican restaurant didn't serve YUMMY, WARM tortilla chips with EVERYONE'S separate meals. It's not like if I asked not to have any, there wouldn't be SEVEN OTHER PLATES full all around me to munch on. But I digress. It was delicious, I only ate 1/2 of my AWESOME, whole wheat vegan burrito, and everyone had a good time and a great meal.

I did exercise for an hour (feel great!) but obviously waited too long after lunch, and after working out to eat again. Was feeling shaky and starving at 7:00 after my workout when I made a very healthy plant based dinner. But I think I was so far gone with the hungry feeling that I needed something else with my veggies, so I had more chips (baked, this time!). It did satisfy me. But now I"m over 2,000 cal,

So...today was about a 100 calorie SURPLUS for the day. Oh, well. Tomorrow's another day!

Have a great night, spark pals-o-mine...

100 calorie surplus isn't bad and atleast you had a light breakfast and got some exercise in. Going out to eat is tough when you're trying to stay within your calories. emoticon

Day 1 - awesome!

Sunday, January 02, 2011

Yesterday was so great! I feel really good about my food choices and my 5 mile run. And to top it all off, my hubster did really great on HIS healthy eating...AND surprised us both by run/walking 2 miles on the treadmill while I was soaking in the jaccuzzi, reading a book. How FABULOUS!!

Today we both feel great, and are gearing up for going out to lunch at a really fun Mexican style restaurant for lunch. It's his son's favorite restaurant up North, and we're visiting it today because he's heading back to Florida tomorrow (sniff...). It'll be a challenge to eat healthy there, and not get cheese or sour cream (2 very decidedly non-vegan items), but I can do it!

Also, DH and I are eating a very limited breakfast (HEALTHY,though...fresh, organic juiced veggies and a banana. YUM!) to help counteract the additional restaurant calories.

Now I"m off to go visit my friend's 1 month old baby. Gotta get my hands on that BEBE!!! emoticon

Here's to day 2! Rock on, sister Sparkers!!

GOOD FOR YOU!!! Your excitement comes through. emoticon It's awesome that your husband is on board with you. I wish I could get mine to do the same. I hope you were able to find good choices at the Mexican restaurant. I know how difficult it can be.

Your renewed energy with the healthy lifestyle thing is motivating to read about, thank you for sharing your enthusiasm. We almost went to the new Margaritas in Framingham last night, but decided to be lazy and go to a Chinese place that is a little closer (and probably a lot less crowded) instead.
