BMR: 655+(4.35 x weight in lbs)+(4.7 x height in inches)+(4.7 x age in years)
My current BMR = 1,382.
Calorie deficit/surplus = BMR + calories burned - calories eaten
*September 28: 1382 + 412 - 1795 = +1 Hee! Too big a lunch, and it was impromptu, too! Guilted into it by my coworker/friend Peter. Oh, well, at least a quick hour on the bike after work made it even, instead of major surplused. I'm really thinking about the food issue now. Making another gallant attempt to get this monster under control.
*September 29: 1382 + 574 - 1601 = (355) Better. Felt good about my food choices today. Got in a good 6 mile run. But wanted to have a dessert tonight, and the leftover cheesecake was staring me in the face. At least it was only 1/2 a piece! I'm on my way!!

O.k., so August's end was rather lame. I had a pitiful 20 mile "run/walk" 11 days ago, and I think it put me in a slump. I really haven't exercised since. LAME! Well, that OBVIOUSLY cannot go on, so yesterday I re-booted my physical self with a great yoga session, and today I ran 5, walked at lunch and did another FABULOUS Prana Power Yoga session. Amazing stuff, that...
So, here's to a new beginning. I forgive myself my slump. I move forward from here. Namaste.
September 1: *Sonic Yoga, home. Time: 55 minutes. Calories: 214.
September 2: *power walk at lunch, 40 minutes, 181 calories.
*outdoor run, 5.2 miles. Time: 47 minutes. Calories: 542.
*walking cooldown. time: 10 minutes. Calories: 91
*Prana Power Yoga, home. time: 1 hour 7 minutes. Calories: 382.
MUUUUUUCH Better!!!
September 3: *Treadmill run, 10 miles. Total time: 1 hour 42 minutes. Total calories: 1,139.
*Walking cooldown. Time: 10 min. Calories: 85.
Was going to do yoga that evening after putting the kids to bed, but was invited to a pre-season Patriot's game instead. SO FUN!! GO PATS!!!
September 4: *outdoor run, 3.8 miles. Time: 37 minutes. Calories: 408.

One thing I know fo sho is that when I eat a mostly raw diet I feel SO great! My energy increases, weight usually comes off easier, my taste buds get used to the truly FLAVOR-FULL tastes of all the raw (not baked, not cooked, not processed) tastes. Amazing! And simply the knowledge that I'm eating such-good-natural food gives me a wonderful sense of well being.
The downside? It takes some preparation to make anything other than plain fruits and veggies (and as much as I love my fruits and veggies, I can't live on them in their own right all day, every day.) Can't grab a quick wrap, or sandwich, or even prepackaged meals or snacks. Not many places HAVE such things in the raw form, and for good reason: they're perishable, and not very in demand! (bummer!) so, with my trusty dehydrator, food processor and juicer I mix, blend, chop and dehydrate lots of great tasting, interesting, and oh-so-good-for-you foods.
Oh, and the BEST part of eating raw? You can eat ANYTHING you want WHENEVER you want, and it's all totally healthy! From salad, to onion rings, to pizza to cupcakes and cookies. All raw, and all totally acceptable WHENEVER. (YAY!)
Some examples:
Raw Chocolate cupcakes
Corn chips
Guacamole and salsa
hummus
almond butter
YUMMY onion bread (my new fav!!)
nut pates
macaroon cookies
banana coconut cream pie (yes! for breakfast if I want!)
spanish 'scramble'
The list goes on and on...
So, I've decided to make my own "raw self-challenge" this week. Monday - Friday I will eat between 75-90% raw. So far so good! (well, 2 out of 3 days. On Monday night I had a small issue with a chinese restaurant with my daughter and husband...but the rest of the day was raw!
Saturday morning through Monday night my hubster and I will be in NYC, SANS kids, and I'm quite sure I won't be eating totally raw during that time. But I'll see what I can do, AND I'm making Silvano go out ONCE to a raw/vegan restaurant that I've heard RAVES about. The Lucky Duck. I can't WAIT!!!! But then, next week, my girl NAMO07 is going to do a mini challenge with me. Virtual raw buddies. WOO HOO!!!
So, if you'd like to take a little challenge yourself, try raw. See what it can do for you!
