3 Pounds GONE: Week 1

Friday, February 17, 2012

Today I ended my first week on the South Beach Diet. Lost 3 Pounds!!!It has not been the easiest diet to make meals from for me. But, I am getting better at it. I weighed this morning and I weighed 197. I had my youngest daughter take this picture. No make up and I really need a shower, but this is me.

South Beach Day 7

Thursday, February 16, 2012

I went to Tennessee last week to visit my sister and her family. When I got home I was disappointed to see that I was up to 200 again. But, I just decided to get back on track doing Phase 1 of South Beach. WOW! It has made such a difference in my life. I am no longer craving foods....it is amazing. I went from heading home just wishing I could eat fries (which I never got) and then going to Phase 1 and not wanting them a bit. Yesterday I really was even that hungry. So, I am pleased. I finally found some Fat Free Ricotta cheese, so I can start making those Ricotta Desserts that everyone says they hate...I don't hate them at all, I think they are so good.

Something I have been doing this year to keep me from hitting the drive thru is meal planning. I really think the meal planning is keeping me on track on my eating. Here was my plan this week.

Monday: Grilled Chicken Breast chopped on Red and Green Lettuce Salad with 2% cheese, light cottage cheese, olives, and ranch dressing.

Tuesday: Beef and Broccolli served on Cauliflower "Rice" and shredded cabbage.

Wednesday: Spaghetti with ground turkey, onions, and bell peppers served on Spaghetti Squash with green beans

Thursday: We have to eat leftovers so they won't spoil

Friday: Top Round Cubed for Steak Tacos. Onions, Bell Peppers, and Cheese with iceburg lettuce wraps. Served with Pinto Beans

Saturday: Meatloaf (no bread, just egg whites), Cauliflower with Cheese, Lima Beans

Sunday: leftovers again....maybe some sort of soup.

It is all about the planning. I am eating leftovers at lunch, while the family is still eating tuna sandwiches mostly.

So, my plan is set and I am following. The whole family enjoys looking on the fridge to see what is for supper.

One last thing, I just want to say that this is a very good week for me. I am having a time with being sick, but I am not having food cravings or crazy hungriness. However, the week before my period, I have seriously bad PMS. I crave foods, I am hungry all the time, and my patience is so....GONE. This leads to binging and being rude and irritable. So I am just saying that come...Saturday February 25, I may find myself struggling. That is just 9 days away for me. So, for now I will try to blog while I feel good about it. Maybe the South Beach will help with the PMS. I have always had PMS, but more the last 5 years. Once my period starts, I have a lot of pain, but I am not craving food that week or grouchy. Just feeling awful bad. But, this week...it has been a great week for me.

Starting to Exercise

Tuesday, January 31, 2012

Yesterday I started my Exercise routine and it felt really good. I am even a little sore today, the good kind of sore. I did the Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds 1 Mile this morning. Yesterday I did the 12 Second Sequence and it was really hard for me. I posted the exercises in my fitness journal and they don't look too bad when you just read them. Not so for me doing them. The push ups were really hard. Then one where you prop on the ball and do backward bendies... I don't remember the name of it. Well it felt really tough for me.

My weight is still up from my Thursday WI, last Thursday I was 196.2 (starting weight 205) and this weekend I slacked. I weighed 198.6 on Sunday morning. This morning I was 197.4 so it is coming back down. Looks like by Thursday I will be lucky if I even maintained. But I am back on track and that is the point. I just want the scale moving in the 'down' direction.

I had a great supper last night and I wanted to share it. Take a look at my public journal if you want. It was baked chicken breast with 1/2 cup of whole wheat spaghetti pasta and 1/2 cup of Bertolli Garlic Alfredo, 1 cup of cauliflower baked with 1 tsp of canola oil and 2/3 cup of mixed vegetables. I used have the alfredo on my pasta and chicken and the other half on my cauliflower. It was really really good. The family ate it too, except my 13 yr old did pick out the green beans from her mixed vegetables (she doesn't like frozen green beans). That is okay, everyone ate the cauliflower and that is great to me. They also added a slice of bread with butter to their meal. Later they all ate light icecream, I could have too, but I was really wanting some popcorn. I had my little bag and was very satisfied with that and a Diet Cola (some generic I bought at ALDI...not as good as Coke Zero, more like Diet Coke). It was a good day yesterday and I am ready for a good day today.

My menu plan for tonight is super easy. Leftover chicken and pasta, so I am just going to do the same meal again. Hope it is great!

Counting Carbs

Monday, January 30, 2012

I know this will sound fickle, but I am going to count carbs instead of points. I talked to my SIL, "SoxsMom", who has lost a lot of weight this year and she said that exercise was THE key to her success. She recommended that I purchase the Leslie Sansome's WATP DVD at Target and to limit my carbs to under 45 grams at each meal. I didn't ask her about snacks, so I am going to use my kefir for snacks - I know that carbs are low 4 to 8 grams per cup depending on how long it ferments.

I am also going to start the 12-second Sequence workouts on Mondays and Thursdays. These are strength training exercises that are done at home. The first 4 weeks are done with weights and an exercise ball... and that I already own. The second 4 weeks uses a Total Gym thingy and I don't have that. I will just redo the first 4 weeks or find something good on Sparkpeople.

This morning, I did just the one mile walk on Leslie Sansome's DVD. It felt good to move. I have read that more fat burns if you do aerobic exercise before breakfast so I am going to always try for that time, but if I can't I will still be getting in my walking. It was nice to walk in the house.

The other thing that SoxsMom said was to go for 7500 steps each day. I went to Dollar Tree to buy a pedometer and the stupid thing broke when I put it own my shoe. AND not broke on the clip, broke on the LCD display. Stupid Dollar Tree junk. I should have KNOWN. So, for now I am just shooting for getting up and about more and doing the exercise. I am doing a load of laundry and a load of dishes in the dishwasher. I will have some folding and putting away and drying and putting away to do soon. Plus I have my bed made up so pretty. Going to stay active. I need to dust my bedroom today, so that will be done too. Trying to be up and active. Going to be doing my 12-second Sequence at 2 pm this afternoon.

I feel good to be moving and working on a good plan. I need to get a good before picture and I will have to get one of my girls to take a picture of me. Good way to see the progress too.

I also count carbs (no more than 150 g per day, but do my best to keep it around 75 g or so) and started tracking calories on SP instead of WW PP+. LOVE the energy I have.

Hope this works for you, too!

I bought an Omron pedometer on Amazon.com for under $15, and it has provided me many years of service. You can wear it clipped to a belt or in a pocket or even in your handbag or briefcase.

Keep up the good work! Find what is right for you and stick with it!

The Beginning

Friday, January 27, 2012

Hello! Welcome to my blog. Here is where I am going to write about my weight loss. I am counting points…old Weight Watchers points. I lost weight before on Weight Watchers online. Then Points Plus came and I just couldn’t get into it. I quit and tried to just eat healthy…but then I couldn’t keep my weight down. In the two years since Points Plus, I have just given up and regained my weight. I went back to the meetings in September, but I just don’t like Points Plus. The whole time I was going to meetings, I lost (and gained) and relost until I quit at a total loss of 4 pounds. So PP doesn’t work for me. It just isn’t intuitive like the old Points. I have resisted going solo, but I have decided to try it. I will do the best I can. I have a notebook and I am writing my food in by hand. At first, I thought it would be tough, but so far so good. I am really enjoying it. I have the old dining out books and I have the internet. Now I have my blog to keep me honest. Check back in and I will keep you posted.
