Sunday inbetween Sweeping....

Sunday, February 07, 2010

Who would have known how much I would miss blogging? My work is intefering in my spark life but I am striving for balance.

Steve and I are working in the driveway

He shovels and I sweep, at least until something gets too cold to bear. Right now the feet are warming up. This morning I wrecked the first set of gloves and then found ski gloves hiding under straw hats. I have strange closets!!! emoticon

The saga of the knee continues-today I rode the bike for 8 min and actually stopped when it began to hurt. I figured toughing out the pain is what got me in this situation to begin with so I would not do that again. I will attempt my strength workout in a bit just to prove to myself that I can do stuff even when cardio is not possible. Man, I hope that is a short lived condition. I miss hiking, walking, but especially dancing all out. Heck, I miss dancing all "IN"!!!

Enough complaints-I miss all the things that were planned for Friday and Saturday but I enjoyed my nuzzle time with the cats and the dog. I will even enjoy driving my car again once it is out of the snow drift!!

Hope all are keeping busy, either doing something or getting some quality relaxation time!! If you watch the Superbowl, just quickfire during those commericals!! Keep those chips at bay!!

No worse time to have a knee act up then when one is recovering from a bad weather event.....I just recovered from a sensitive knee issue a month or so ago - I eventually cleared the problem up by a very simple change in my routine - for many years I would work out without benefit of footwear. Well, NO MORE of THAT! I also replaced my sneaks, and it amazed me how quickly I noticed an improvement in the knee's performance and lack of pain!

How much snow did you get all told? As I blogged earlier, I'm really ashamed of my vent.....when I think of how many people have had it much worse, and how I've dealt with such a small amount without even blinking.....sigh....seems that I'm perhaps not aging as gracefully as I'd like.....also, I'm still not at the menopausal stage yet and I am having some aggravating symptoms.....I did get outside enough to at least start and move the car out of the driveway so I felt that I've accomplished something (though I did also get about 2 hrs. of mixed aerobics/muscle conditioning out of the way)....

Have a gr8 week!

Sorry to hear about your knee troubles. I had it a few years back and going to a specialty store that fits your feet for the proper workout shoes - in my case running - solved it! I guess I was "over pronating" and that was making the knee worse. New shoes solved it. At first I thought they were expensive but I guess compared to the medical bills I could have racked up, I got off easy! Best of luck to you!

First February Blog!!

Thursday, February 04, 2010

HI, I have missed blogging. The week has been a bear and I picked up another class at the college. They were in need of an instructor so I rearranged my schedule to help out. The extra money is a help but I hate to think of students without someone who likes math helping them with their math!!

The diet hasn't been too bad if you discount tonight's thin mints(eating dinner at 10:30 is not optimal). When I got done work at the college at 9, I headed to the Acme to do the regular weekly food shopping which isn't likely to be possible with the potential blizzard facing us this weekend here in South Jersey.

My knee is improving from lack of execise-just no time at all with the end of semester stuff for the high school and the beginning of the semester stuff for the college.

Tonight I hope to sleep well and tomorrow I will go Red with the rest of the country I hope!!

Sleep well, keep warm, and be kind to yourself!! It makes everything a little easier!!xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo emoticon

Be sure to take care of yourself. How much snow did you get hit with? We have between 24 and 30" and expecting more. Shoveling is great cardio so I won't complain to loudly. lol I just wish people were not without electricity and heat...so many to pray for.
Blessings and hugs,
Helen

Glad to hear your knee is getting better. It is snowing here in MI, but I don't think we are supposed to get much. I think it might miss us, hopefully!!!

Have a great weekend!!

Glad to hear your knee is improving... take it easy on it and don't push yourself back into exercise too soon... need that to heal :) Have you tried any water based exercise? Might be easier on the joints....

I just saw the snow forecast on the news this morning.. you guys are going to get hit! Stay inside and snuggle up w/ your furbabies :)

Have a great day!!

When your soul needs a lift, there is nothing like music

Sunday, January 31, 2010

I am watching the Grammys and they barely won out over the movie 1408 which combined three great things: John Cusack, a Stephen King story, and a number for a title. Hope to catch the movie some other time but I am so glad to be watching the Grammys. Since I can't sing a lick, I have been dancing along(as much as the knee will permit) with the vocal performances. Even did a few situps...

It was a really restful day-got up early, swept snow, read the paper, Sparked, did lesson plans and student calendars, made breakfast for DH and me, and took a lovely afternoon nap. No wonder I feel good.

I tried the capoiera workout which I liked-the moves feel good and I like the music. Took in too many calories but I figure it has been awhile since I have gone over calories so maybe my body will get the idea that I am not trying to starve it. At least most of it was healthy food(ok, the french fries were an indulgence but the bloating was almost worth it!!)

Sparkers, have a great week, be strong and be good!! emoticon

    What is the capoiera workout?

My weekend was decent too...I made a Rachel Ray recipe Saturday--crab and pasta, yum!––and it turned out pretty good. Even M. liked it.

Then last night the puppy actually settled down to sleep on the living room rug, a first for her! She usually is perpetual motion when she's out of the crate. Finally maturing a bit.

I sent you some stuff on shopping in Cape May. Did you get it? Maybe we can do it sometime, weather permitting.

Have a good week,
Love,
Carol

Friday night or should I say, Early Saturday morning

Saturday, January 30, 2010

AAAAAHHHH, I had a couch nap-I love those! Of course, I didn't finish sparking but here I am now.

It was a good week with the exception of my exercise minutes. With the sore knee, everything has been a bit curtailed. I will try to do more yoga and pilates and weight training. Gotta do what you can when you can.

Food was actually ok this week-few cookie meltdowns. emoticon

Teaching at the college began again which I enjoy. Too bad it cuts into Spark time but I will try to work around that. I miss communicating with my Spark friends.

Time for bed-wishing all a great weekend, filled with fun, friends, movement, healthy eating, and some good surprises!! emoticon

Keep on keepin' on. What a great attitude!! Remember you are much to blessed to be stressed. Take perfection and throw it out the window. There's always something you can make better or do differently — strive to IMPROVE, not attain the impossible.
Blessings and hugs,
Helen
