and the living is easy ... emoticon

I have had such a great weekend, it's almost over, and I'm off to bed in order to be able to get up bright and early and have a healthy breakfast before heading for work.

I've walked every day, and have set a new record for the "round" I take, 45 minutes brisk walking.

We've spent almost the whole weekend outside in our garden, we grilled some chicken/pork/beef kebabs and had hummus and salad with it, as well as a piece of birthday cake my mother-in-law brought and we all sat outside in the lovely evening light talking and enjoying life.

A trip to the garden centre today and we came back with lots of fun projects - a bamboo plant we placed in the new bed, along with some strawberry plants! LOL. The fruit trees are in full bloom, the lilacs too, giving off a heedy scent.

I love this time of year! And I am really looking forward to the rest of my journey/life - to keeping on keeping on - it's fun to be so motivated!

And I'm so DONE! emoticon

Someone noticed!

Saturday, May 31, 2008

My mother-in-law asked me if I'd lost weight today! Wonderful to be able to say "Yes, thanks for noticing!"
My dearest has also mentioned that my tummy feels smaller, but I hadn't really believed him.

Edit: This was after we all went for a walk around 4 km. Lovely day!

Isn't that a great feeling! The same thing happened to me last week- one of our long time clients where I work- a man even- commented that I looked like I had "dropped some pounds"- It really made my whole day...

Who'd have thunk it last month?

Friday, May 30, 2008

I actually jogged a bit today! I called it "interval training" since I mostly walked and I feel warm and fuzzy all over after a great day. I need to get myself some better shoes if I'm keeping this up, those I have are meant for walking only. But it was fun to play with tempo and try to find the best music on my iPod to fit my mood.

Oh, and I saw a hedgehog rolled into a spiky ball when a cat came near. I don't think the cat stood a chance, though she was VERY curious - or possibly hunting. emoticon

Also looking forward to the weekend, my in-laws will visit tomorrow, and we'll have a BBQ with lots of healthy choices, and a slice of cake just because.

I asked my MIL to bring her walking shoes, and we'll go the 2-3 miles she used to do when she lived here.

Salad days

Thursday, May 29, 2008

Getting better at having a majority of "salad days" emoticon rather than "cake days" emoticon is a big goal for me.

If I can manage to not eat out of boredom, or want to have salty or sweet snacks too often, I'm not going to let myself worry about having an occasional day or two above calorie range, any more than I worry about those days when I am below my calorie range.

Since I'm not on a diet, but focus on getting consistent exercise (a HUGE change in my life already) and building a better lifestyle into my working days, any improvements I make with my food choices will lead me in the right direction.

I have heard said in Norwegian something I'll try to translate: "It's not what you eat between Christmas and New Year's Eve that will make you fat; it's what you eat between New Year's Eve and Christmas..."

You are doing a great job. I've been reading your last few blogs and have marveled at how well you are doing. You are doing things the right way. Changing how you think is such a big part of how we attack our weight loss and you are doing that.

Initially I had to cut things up into really small pieces to fool myself into thinking that I am eating a larger portion. That worked at first, but now I don't need to do that. LOL

When I get home from work I immediately take the dog out so that I don't just eat whatever food I can get my hands on because I am hungry and ruin the great eating day I'd been having.

Pat yourself on the back!

Special days and ordinary days

Wednesday, May 28, 2008

Another gloriously sunny day and we had a special celebration tonight: I invited my dearest out to our favourite Chinese restaurant since it was his birthday. I hope the dry fried beef and fois gras I had won't stick to me, since this was a special birthday meal and not an ordinary day. LOL.

We even went for a little walk together afterwards, it was quite romantic in the sunset along green fields - we only walked as far as the horse paddock before turning back, since it was getting a bit late.

I went to the doctor with my ear infection after work, and he "vacuumed" my ear and gave me some drops to use twice a day - yucky stuff such infections. I hope I'll finally get rid of it, the last time I had it was in March...

Sounds like you had a lovely evening with your husband. I'm glad to hear it doesn't sound like you're too worried about your dinner - nothing to worry about as long as long as those types of meals are the exception rather than the rule. I'm sorry to hear about your ear infection, but it sounds like you've taken care of it. Hope you're on the road to recovery.

Thanks for your sweet note on my page. It's friends like you that make sticking to this lifestyle change so much easier this time around.
