Slept well but have question about CPAP

Thursday, October 14, 2010

I had a hard time getting my facemask to sit properly and it kept leaking up by my eyes (which I know is not good), and part of the night I am sure it wasn't functioning properly. I moved the mask around and tried tightening the straps but I struggled with the leaks around the top. Perhaps I am just going to have to go in to see the people who sold me this as I probably just need a few pointers on how to put this dang thing on that makes me looked like an alien!!!Most of the night I slept pretty well and am only a little headachy this morning. I did add humidity this time and perhaps will try a little more of that tomorrow.

I was warned it takes awhile to get used to this but my previous (first) night was so good I thought I had it handled.... emoticon

Air does come out that is normal. Does your machine shows it is leaking. I can't sleep without my machine. It is the best thing I every did.

There is always a period of adjustment. One of my friends has tried 4 different masks to find the right one that fits! Good luck but glad you are sleeping a little better. HUGS!

It takes awhile to get used to. They can give you pointers to get it on without leaking etc. I finally went to a mask with nose pillows instead of nose covering one due to feeling claustrophobic with my nose covered.

Got CPAP machine and had 1st night of pretty decent sleep in ages....

What a wonderful piece of technology. Thank goodness I have excellent insurance coverage as the total cost is close to $3000. I won't have to make any copays until January as I have maxed out the out of pocket on my plan way back in May. My insurance company has paid about $75,000 in claims for me this year. (About 40,000 was for knee replacement). Next year I don't plan any big surgeries but have some ongoing medical conditions which require testing, etc so expect next year will be another year when the insurance company doesn't make any profit on me. One evening when talking to my insurer, the person on the phone asked when I was going to retire, and I thought wow, they really want to get rid of me.... oh, well. I probably won't retire for a long time as the insurance is so good!!! emoticon

I've used CPAP for quite a while now. It is certainly a life saver. I've used my insurance prettily heavily this year, too. Hip replacement, and need two knee replacements. Bet they wish I'd retire also.

Today get results of sleep study...finally...

Tuesday, October 12, 2010

I was surprised to have to wait about 3 weeks to get official results of my sleep study. I will meet with the lung specialist's (sleep specialist dr) PA and find out the details. I was told the morning after the test that I slept brokenly about 4 hours out of 8 that I was in bed and appeared to have obstructed breathing. And as usual I felt unrefreshed in the morning but got up cause my back was hurting from the strange mattress I slept on.

It will be interesting to see what solutions I am offered to help get better sleep. I was afraid to try over-the-counter sleeping pills because I figured there was a breathing disorder of some sort and didn't think that would be a good idea.

I hope when I start to get better sleep I will be able to control my weight better as I have read on Spark People that not getting at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep a night contributes to difficulty losing weight. Also, I believe if I don't feel all dragged out from lack of sleep I probably will be able to exercise more. Yesterday I was tired all day and drove hubby to the gym and I sat in the car while he went in as I felt like walking all the way to the locker room and up and down the short flight of stairs to the swimming pool was just toooooooooo much work and after we got home I plopped down in my chair for a couple hours before going to bed.. I probably would have felt better if I swam but I just was fatigued.

Anyhow, here's hoping things will improve in that area.... emoticon

Getting the answers will make all the difference. Patients I take care of with sleep apnea tell me they felt ten times better after they started using their machine. Let us know what the doc says.

Selling house is sounding better all the time....

Monday, October 11, 2010

Just hope we can sell in this "down market." My knee was replaced about 4-1/2 months ago and am still having difficulty with bending and doing housecleaning and the like and a lot of that will have to be done before even putting the house on the market. My house also needs to have some major things addressed (which, of course, cost money) and it is seeming like a daunting undertaking. I have to grit my teeth and "just do it" to the best of my abilities.

The upcoming special assessment for the street reconstruction is perhaps the "final straw" unless I can get a deferment based on age (must be 65 which I will be before the bill is levied) and hardship (I have to find out the criteria to be accepted for deferment).

I am very concerned about this and my husband did not take the news very well last night when I told him what is "coming down the pike." He is actually saying very worrisome things and I told him that is not going to help our situation.. I don't know how to react to his statements. I tried to reassure him that we probably will get a deferment but I really don't know if we will. Today after work I will get started with the process of applying for that. emoticon

I found out today that I will qualify for a deferment of our house taxes and the special assessments. No payments would be due until a year after the street project is done so this is not going to happen for 2 years so I have decided I need not panic...

Shocker from the City of Edina....

Sunday, October 10, 2010

I was recently informed the city I live in is repaving the streets and putting in curbs. They estimate our bill (just our house) will be $8 to 12,000 and if we cannot pay it they will add it to our taxes plus interest and it has to be paid off in 10 years which means approximately $1,000 per year plus interest (wasn't told the percentage) but this was quite a shock to find this news in a pile of mail I had forgotten to read. I think this will mean an extra $200 a month on our tax bill. My first estimate was $300 per month but I think I overestimated. I think I am going to have to go to City Hall this week and find out how this "speical assessment" will pan out.

I called City Hall today and found out since the project is still in the planning phase the extra cost will not be bill to us for about 2 years. By that time I will be over 65 and will quality for a deferment of the payments, though the interest will continue to accrue until we sell the house.

I also found out we can defer the regular tax bill also considering we have a low enough income to qualify for that program, too. And again, of course, there is interest payable at the time of selling the house but it does put my worst fears to rest regarding not being able to pay the real estate tax bills.
