Dry skin....side effect of warm therapy pool....

Saturday, January 24, 2009

I have to take shorter showers with warm, not hot, water and remember to lotion up afterwards as the warm therapy pool with extra chlorie is really drying out my skin and the itching has been driving me up the wall. Anybody know a good lotion without lanolin (I'm allergic to that) that could help me out? Lordy, it's annoying to the point where I am considering taking an antihistamine (Sudafed) to help out. Thanks for any input/suggestions for this.... emoticon

Pool therapy.... feels great

Tuesday, January 20, 2009

I know I can make it to the therapy pool at least twice a week, but my goal is three times which will require some serious planning and changing my work schedule at least one day a week. I know I can do it and in order to get good results I need to do that for myself. Had my second session with the therapist yesterday and decided to continue on my own so I won't have to pay $25 co-pay for insurance each time instead of only $3 to use the pool on my own. After all, my health and well being is up to me.

Actually went to therapy pool twice this week, once with therapist and once on my own. I knew I could do it. Now to figure out how to get the third session in. This week it will probably be on Saturday at the gym I belong to. Feeling sore but know I am getting stronger and healthier. emoticon

Need some time for me....

Sunday, January 18, 2009

It seems I am always changing my schedule to satisfy everyone else. I plan to get some "me" time in this week. This weekend seems to have flown by and I haven't accomplished any house cleaning or organizing like I always promise myself. This coming week I have pool therapy twice and will have to go to work an hour early to accommodate for that. I just have to remember to go to bed earlier than usual.

I noticed that lately my aches and pains are flared up (of course falling on the ice didn't help that), but this also coincides with my forgetting to take my Rx meds, vitamins and food supplements. I always feel better when I remember these. This week I will work on remembering to take my pills and remembering to write down all my food intake.

I also have been promising myself to read flylady emals I signed up for and finally read one this week. It says to concentrate on shining your kitchen sink. (of course, this requires keeping up with the dishes in order to do this and I am sure it would be helpful. It seems I always have dirty dishes in the sink and need to get in the habit of rinsing off dishes right after using them and popping them into the dishwasher or washing by hand and putting them away. ) I will try to read one suggestion per day and act on it for a whole week.

Being organized and having a healthy lifestyle are similar. They involve learning new behaviors that are healthier or better and discarding the old behaviors.
Afterall, we can't keep doing the same thing over and over and expect different results, can we? emoticon

Oh boy...do I agree with this! I have much the same problem...my needs always seem to take 2nd place to others needs or wants. emoticon I thought maybe getting to this age would mean I could take some time to do things for me...of course....I wasn't planning on not being in charge of my house or me.

I guess we will have to schedule our need in stone, so they can't be overrun with everyone else's needs or wants...Maybe that will help us both.

Good luck.

Pool therapy... I feel so lucky....

Saturday, January 10, 2009

I was trying to think of a way to use the therapy pool at extended hours other than employee times which are very limited. Lo and behold, after I fell and Dr. sent me to Sister Kenny for PT, the physical therapist, suggested pool therapy. This means I can use the pool for extended hours which are way more convenient than the usual employee hours at the hospital where I work. This means I can put my health club membership on hold and save that money at least for 6 months or so, since I really have been unable to use most of the equipment there anyhow because of my problems with my feet, etc. and it is 8 miles from my home, so I can go to the therapy pool after work. I guess sometimes just thinking about things brings about change, like visualizing what we need. I really believe in that. Thanks for divine order or as some people call it, thanks for prayers answered.

I'd say your "miracle on 38th Street" has had good results...and certainly were not as you planned...God works in interesting ways for our good.

This is why I am compelled to be healthy and not sick. It is depressing to be ill.
