Tuesday morning prework swim in therapy pool!!!

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

I am so excited to be able to go to the 92 degree therapy pool before work today. (It was closed the previous 2 Tuesdays and I really missed it. The outdoor pool at the gym has been really cold the last 10 days or so...If I get myself going in the morning I can go to the therapy pool at work on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I plan to be there twice a week for as long as possible. I always feel better after spending at least 30 minutes in the pool. Today my goal is to spend a whole hour in there and perhaps spend half of it just relaxing and floating. I got a little stressed out this morning when I weighed myself as there was a 4 lb weight gain after this past week of relative inactivity and too much restaurant food. (Oh, that darn sodium.)

I made an appointment to see a lung specialist regarding my sleep problems and have to wait until September 22nd which actually is fairly soon. Sometimes those appoinments are scheduled 2 to 3 months out. I am supposed to bring a sleep diary for 2 weeks with me. Last night was a fairly good night with waking up (as far as I recall) only 3 times. I don't feel rested, however, and it probably was more often. I would love to go back to bed instead of to the pool and get another hour or so of sleep. I think there is some connection with the inactivity lately because of knee pain, allergies (high pollen counts) and weight gain. I hope I can have a sleep study after the consult with the lung specialist. emoticon

The therapy pool sounds wonderful. I can imagine how relaxing it must be. Good luck on getting the sleep study done; yeah, we've waited a few times for three months to get into a specialist. Good thing that we weren't dying!! LOL

Swimming is the best exercise as far as I am concerned. You do not feel sweaty ;)) you do not smell ;)) you can float and have total quiet ;)) and you feel good afterwards! Have a great day! When I have trouble sleeping, I go to sleep about 2 hours later than normal for a few days, until I get my sleeping pattern back on track. The older we get, the less sleep we need. Good luck with the joints!

Hi Sweetie, haven't heard from you in awhile or when I log in I might just be missing you ,with keeping a sleep diary not only do you see how many hours you are sleeping but you can also monitor your stress level to see if that is what is hindering sleep

Good luck

Relaxing today...

Sunday, August 29, 2010

Made it to the pool and whirlpool for total time of 30 minutes. Took it easy so am not feeling any ill effects today. Slept a bit fitfully last night, however, and will need to talk to dr about that when I see her for annual checkup...planning on getting an overnight sleep study, also. emoticon

P.S. I spoke too soon...having muscle cramps in thigh on operated side today. Guess I really need to take a day off from exercise and use massage, ice and heat. I would LIKE to run around the block but know that is impossible....sigh.... emoticon

Take it easy at least one day a week. You've earned it. Before you know it you'll be running rings around all of us.

Take things slow and easy and you'll get there because you have the determination. Hang in there while things get better.

Trying not to overdo today like I did on Thursday...

Saturday, August 28, 2010

At the end of the day on Thursday I realized I had probably overdid on exercise when I saw it added up to 100 minutes in one day. Friday at work I was fine until about halfway through the day I started getting extreme discomfort in my right hip on standing up...I couldn't even walk for awhile. It was temporary and I was able to walk and get to my car fine and take my hubby out for his birthday dinner, but during the night last night (Friday night) I had temporary severe pains in my right foot and ankle and then today it was fine.

I am pretty sure these sudden pains are probably nerve irritation from doing too much exercise in a day. I think the next time I go to the group water aerobics class I will excuse myself about halfway through as I think 30 minutes would be plenty until I am stronger. Afterall, I am only 3 months out from total knee replacement. I am using the stairs now at the gym instead of the elevator which I am very proud of...however, I am still moving rather slowly and hanging onto the railing for dear life.... emoticon
