Trying not to overdo today like I did on Thursday...

At the end of the day on Thursday I realized I had probably overdid on exercise when I saw it added up to 100 minutes in one day. Friday at work I was fine until about halfway through the day I started getting extreme discomfort in my right hip on standing up...I couldn't even walk for awhile. It was temporary and I was able to walk and get to my car fine and take my hubby out for his birthday dinner, but during the night last night (Friday night) I had temporary severe pains in my right foot and ankle and then today it was fine.

I am pretty sure these sudden pains are probably nerve irritation from doing too much exercise in a day. I think the next time I go to the group water aerobics class I will excuse myself about halfway through as I think 30 minutes would be plenty until I am stronger. Afterall, I am only 3 months out from total knee replacement. I am using the stairs now at the gym instead of the elevator which I am very proud of...however, I am still moving rather slowly and hanging onto the railing for dear life.... emoticon

I am working earlier today so I can take hubby out for dinner (at 4:30, like all the other old foggies) at his favorite seafood place for his 2 dozen oysters at happy hour prices....

Final PT visit today...I am doing great 3 months after knee replacement...

I can walk up and down stairs pretty well (slow but steady) and my knees are doing great. Therapist agreed I could do a home program. I also am doing water aerobics tonight for the second time this week. I am going to try to go to the swim class 3 times a week at my gym. I am a little frustrated trying to find a chair yoga class locally that meets in the evening or weekend (I guess they are geared at retired people). I need to try out my new videos I purchased last week..... emoticon

    That is Great your knee is coming along well. I feel alot better since my knee replacements. Going up and down the stairs it has been 2 years since my last one and it was just the other day I thought wow it is so much better getting up and down off the toilet. LOL. You will really notice the difference over time. Teri

I get to work a half day today, got to sleep a little later and will only work 8 to 12. I get off early to do to PT. Was planning to swim before work but had trouble sleeping so decided to sleep in instead. This morning am taking 2 hours to get going so will definitely get on the recumbent bike and do my PT exercises. Yesterday I did a few flights of stairs (slowly and hanging onto railing, but I did it and I didn't plunk down but it is getting smoother. I noticed going down is the hardest which seems backwards but gravity tries to take over and so the quads have to work hard to make the muscles work to make a smoth gliding movement when supporting myself with the new knee. I have no recall of having a problem with stairs last year when I had my other knee replaced but apparently I had a textbook recovery without a hitch. This recovery has been slower. My handicapped parking permit will expire at the end of August but I really don't nee that any more so I will not ask for an extension. Since I missed swimming in the therapy pool this a.m. I will go to the water aerobics class at 6:00 p.m. today. I found even though I wasn't able to keep up with all the exercises I do think I got a good work out and it was nice to talk to the other ladies after class while we are warming up in the whirlpool.

I am still having less pain as a side-effect of the steroid burst for allergies and that is great. I will be swimming again tomorrow morning before work and so probably won't have time to blog in a.m. tomorrow, either. My sleep was a little interrupted but not as bad as the night the itching drove me crazy. I am hoping when the extra meds are gone the knees will stay good...one can always hope.... for now I will just enjoy the good feelings....and hope for the best...tomorrow after work I will be having physical therapy and might actually get on the leg press again (over a month ago just trying to lift my leg up to get on the leg press is when I tore the quad muscle, so I have been gun-shy and afraid up until now to get on this equipment.)

I am having great expectations... emoticon
