Dr recommended 2 OTCs and 1 Rx...feeling better and slept well last night

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

The minute I laid down to sleep my feet started itching again so I gave them a spray of the antifungal spray but did it under the sheet to keep from breathing the fumes this time. I got a Medrol dosepak (steroid burst) and was told to take a double dose of loratadine (Claritin) and 150 mg 2X a day of ranitidine (Zantac). I feel improved but not 100%. Yesterday I tried to make up my missing time at work from going to see doctor but couldn't make it all up so have to work an extra 1.5 hours today. I finally cried uncle when my fingertips became painful from tenderness (probably overused them with all the scratching...leave it to me to find some twisted humor in this situation....at least there is some humor to me.). I told my supervisor part of the "comedy of errors" and she commented that I shouldn't be left alone, she said it in a humorous manner and I did not take offense. She said at least I didn't have trouble breathing this time like back in May when I was taken away in an ambulance. emoticon

So glad you are feeling better. And it is a good thing that the meds are working well enough for you to be able to sleep. Take care!

Thank heavens for the relief. It is hard to not scratch when something itches. Your supervisor sounds pretty nice. emoticon not emoticon.

Do you know what is causing this itching. Is it just allergies? Carry something with you at all times to prevent it from getting to this point.

Itching kept me awake half the night....arghhhhhhhhhhhhh~~~~~!!

Monday, August 23, 2010

I swam in the outdoor pool at the club for 30 minutes and then 15 minutes in the indoor pool and finished with the warm whirlpool. During the night, starting with my hands and feet I started having itching. I even got up at 3:00 a.m. to take a shower to see if that helped but it didn't. Right now I am itching almost everywhere and might have to see my doctor. Last time I had something like this it was from a whirlpool (but the water was yellow and I knew right away to get out) and I ended up taking prednisone as I had folliculitis. At that time all my pores were red and it was obvious but this time I only see red marks from itching. I hope I am able to work today. I also took a Benadryl during the night hoping that would help but it didn't and I am afraid to take a second one as I might have trouble staying awake at work today. I am trying to ignore the itchy feelings but I think it is impossible. I am going to go into work and call my doctor and see how soon I can be seen. Arggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh~~~~~!!!!

I had head to toe itching when I was pregnant with my first child 35 years ago. Turns out I had pre-eclampsia toxima. This developed into dangerously high bp. I had a seizure after childbirth. Stayed in the hospital 9 days. You might want to be checked for toxins in your blood. The dr. told me I was just nervous. Please get a second opinion.

What a bad situation you are in. You can say dont itch and that makes it worse. Perhaps the doctor will see you today and give you a shot. I wish you the best.

You poor thing!! I remember having poison ivy so bad I had to take medication. My eyes swelled up like baloons. It must be more aggravating to not know what the source is. Good luck and I hope it ends well. emoticon

I also itched all over...mostly arms and legs. The first time I went to the doctor he thought I had scabies. After doing the treatment three times and no relief, I went back. Saw my own doctor this time and she told me the first doctor wasn't sure, just thought maybe that's what it was. She believes it was (is) just from allergies. I'm not sure which allergy but started taking my zyrtec again along with another antihistamine (which keeps me very drowsy all day long) and the symptoms pretty much went away (still a little itcy, but not crazy itchy). I am allergic to Maple and Ash trees, grass, and my cat.

Hope you find a solution too...it's terrible when you itch so badly.

Certainly does sound like an allergic reaction. Did you try an oatmeal bath? Sometimes that helps. If it continues or gets worse I would certainly call the doctor. I like the cooling drink on your page. Looks like iced tea, is it?

Beautiful day for a walk...

Sunday, August 22, 2010

It's sunny and warm...a perfect day for a walk....

This is the last day of rmy 4 day weekend. I hope I get a decent night's sleep tonight. Looking forward to the therapy pool on Thursday (it is closed this Tuesday). The outdoor pool at the gym was colder than the indoor pool so I guess the end of the season is near. They close outdoor pools in Minnesota on Labor Day until Memorial Day. We have to enjoy the warm weather really fast here..... sigh... emoticon

Enjoy the pool on Thursday. The pool I went to for water aerobics is only open during July and August and the second time I got in, it felt about 90 degrees. Someone asked about using soap.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday. emoticon

Outdoor pools are cooler than indoor weather, even in AZ. Enjoy your good days while you have them. The snow will be peeking in soon.

Our pools are the same way. We have 3 outdoors ones. 2 are extra nice pools and 1 is old. They are keeping 1 of the nice ones open on the weekends til Labor Day. However our weather is in the 100's LOL

Chair yoga or easy yoga...I'm gonna try it...

Friday, August 20, 2010

I saw a nice blog entry with a series of videos on Spark People with chair yoga videos.go to member anneburnell...I didn't try it yet but with my two new knees I am afraid to get on the floor (my qaud strength is still not up to par and getting off the floor is very difficult). Go to the chair exercise spark group and you should be able to track down the member who is an exercise instructor. I also saw a special on PBS by Peggy Cappy and I went to Amazon books online and purchased one of her videos with easy yoga and am waiting for another easy yoga DVD...I have such grand plans. I tried to find a local yoga class for seniors (I'm 64) but apparently all the classes are during the week during the day and I guess they assume older adults don't have to work...(wrong!!!). I am going to keep looking for an easy yoga class but for now using the home videos will be my "introduction to yoga." I think the stretching will be really good for me. Will being reporting my progress in future blogs. emoticon

I think you'll like Yoga. Do any fitness centers offer Aqua Yoga at times you can go? It is WONDERFUL. Plenty of stretching and balancing, but no impact problems.

I had the videos from Peggy Cappy and loaned them to a coworker who never gave them back. Since I'm now 1800 miles away from her, I think I'd better get new copies. From what I saw, they are very good. Definitely let us know how good.

Leaving soon for therapy pool 6 to 7 a.m.

Thursday, August 19, 2010

I can hardly wait to get in the therapy pool. Even though I am taking the day off work I will drive the 10 miles there to get in that 92 degree water and do exercises. I find it so relaxing and always feel better after I do that.

Today and tomorrow I have been allowed to take off from work to have a reprieve. Luckily there were not many others off those two days....otherwise I might not have been able to have them off.

I am a bit frazzled between waiting to hear about my sister (but finally talked to her daughter yesterday). My husband also has been having problems with side-effects from Aricept and lost 10 lb this past week, but has now regained 5 lb after going off the drug. He got his second hearing aid back yesterday and finally the volume on the t.v. can be at a near-normal level again. It was in the factory for 3 weeks and I think I missed it more than he did.

I can sympathize with you on that note. My late husband would have the T.V. blaring away and I used to sit right next to it because we had a very small living room. I was very happy to move into a house with a separate office where he could sit and watch by himself.
