Dishwasher fixed...

Monday, July 12, 2010

The door latch only needed adjustment. A minumum service call was $100 so it was way cheaper than buying a new dishwasher. Hubby thought we should just go buy another one (I am glad I handle the finances now).

It worked out well and have a full load running right now. emoticon

Glad it was an easy fix. I had one of those with the dryer last week, although I would have bought a new one and my DH is the one who got the part (2-hour round trip drive) and fixed it.

Men can be infuriating when something needs to be fixed. It's always either 'I'll fix it right after this ________________(fill in the blank) is over' and then forget, or they do a slap dash fix-it that lasts for ten minutes. Only occasionally has the man said get a new one. At least yours was a simple fix.

emoticonIf you had ,had American Home shields they would have only charge you 55.00 service call and if they cannot fix it they will replace it,I have all my appliances cover with them.

Tempted to stay home today but resisting the urge....

Monday, July 12, 2010

Since the doctor said I could still work in spite of muscle tear I am going in; however, I have to go in early cause I need to be home when the repairman comes for our dishwasher. Hubby refuses to wash dishes by hand and I can't stand at the sink. We are running out of dishes (it has been 3-4 days since it broke) and kitchen is a disaster area.

Hopefully they can fix the door latch. I looked up expected life spans of dishwashers (they have built in obsolescence) and it was 6 to 12 years. Since we have an upper end machine that we bought 11 years ago it is an iffy proposition to get it fixed but after I looked up the cost of a high end machine I am hoping investing another $150 to $200 in it will be worthwhile. Hope I am right.

Good luck with getting your machine fixed. I'm glad I don't have to contend with that but then I wash by hand and don't worry about my hands. I grew up washing by hand.

Hope your muscle is healing. That sounds like it is very painful.

I hope they can fix the dishwasher. Appliances are so expensive. Well everything is getting to be expensive including repairs.

Good luck with the dishwasher. I but medium-range ones and replace every 6 years or so.

I think you are correct in trying to repair the dishwasher - I always do that first before I consider trying to replace - SO expensive!!

Sorry about your muscle tear - what a bummer! Way to go on trying to work anyway, I'm afraid I would wimp out and stay home!

btw - I think Hubby should be doing the dishes! Ha!

It is bothersome when an appliance acts up. You're having health troubles doesn't help at all. I hope all will work out well with you.

Taking it easy and not collecting exercise point this week...

Saturday, July 10, 2010

Trying to rest and hopefully my muscle tear will heal and will see doctor next Thursday to check on my progress. If it is not better I will be sent for an MRI. For now, the doctor says it is probably a small tear in one of the quad muscles. I actually feel better after only 1 day of rest. I was told I could still work 4 hours a day since it is a desk job. The hardest part is getting in and out of my car as I can't lift my leg without using my hands to move it. I definitely will not drive on the highways as sudden stopping is painful, too. I will do my best to rest. I guess when I had my other knee replaced last year I was very fortunate to have no complications. So far this is a minor setback and I will have to reactivate slowly and follow doctors orders to the letter. I also will need to be extra careful around the leg press machine and the steps. emoticon

Update on quad pain...went to doctor this a.m.

Friday, July 09, 2010

I had such severe pain getting in and out of car decided to call orthopedic doctor and got in this morning. X-rays did not show a tendon rupture nor anything broken.

Dr. thought I have a small (???) tear of the quad and I am to take it easy for a week and wear knee brace (more like a leg brace (covers most of leg). He did say because I had a desk job I could continue to work 4 hours a day. I am in excruciating pain trying to get in and out of car but am able to drive (staying off highways as lifting leg for quick stops is painful).

I managed to sit in the whirlpool for about 10 minutes this afternoon and that was nice but I was unable to do my usual exercises so it was boring.

Dr. said a tear of the quad would heal itself and I would be okay, but I need to see him next week and if I am not better he will send me for an MRI to see the extent of the tear. He said be sure not to fall as I could easily rupture a tendon if I did fall. I am wearing the brace I wore after knee replacement surgery and using a cane to be careful so I won't fall.

Right now I am sitting in my recliner and contemplating what to do next. Probably will just play with computer and do some sparking. Perfhaps read my book I bought on Ebay (The Beck Diet book) and make a few phone calls.

My niece called with report on how my sister is this afternoon and she is wrestling with the quandry of deciding about DNR/DNI status as she is going downhill and had several falls lately and has 2 blood clots in her lungs. She is back in a hospital at this point as her condition is fragile. It does not appear that she is going to get better unless a miracle happens and I do believe in miracles. I appreciate the prayers my spark friends are saying for her. emoticon

Don't get over anxious to do exercises again. Hate to say it, but as our bodies get older (even though we, ourselves, don't get older) it takes them longer to heal!! Once healed, starting gradually back into the exercise mode might be hard; but, hey

I am sending positive thoughts and sincere prayers for your sister and all her family and friends who are going through this ordeal with her.

I hope that your knee will get on the mend very soon and no more DR appt will be needed. Do what they say and get better soon. I will be thinking of you as we both are in recovery mode.
Hugs
