around the block in morning before heat hits at noon....

I did not put off walking around the block today as the temperature was about 70 when I went around and knocked another minute off my speed (20 minutes for 1/2 mile). It is predicted to be 80 by noon with a high of 88 (high humdity, too). At least today there are no storm warnings (see yesterdays blog and comment re: tornadoes).

    I am on vacation and the temp is cold! I do schedule outside exercise for cooler times of the day in summer.

We went out for lunch and now we are waiting for a tornado warning to pass by us. I won't be able to walk around the block as the temp has gone up to 88 with high humidity. There is hail and tornadoes touching down about 50 to 100 miles from our home. We might have to go down in the basement waiting for it to pass by.

    The tornadoes missed our city in spite of tornadoes from way up northern Minnesota and southern Minnesota (we are in the lower third of the state). Unfortunately, three people died and dozens were injured.

I had a pain pill last night about 8:00 p.m. and another at 10:00 a.m. this morning...I have been given another prescription and I am sure this will be my last refill so am ekeing them out and trying to make them last as long as possible. When I woke up at 6:00 a.m. I did 20 leg lifts with each leg had a bowl of cereal and went back to sleep for another 2 hours. It is 10:30 and in a few minutes I will do 10 minutes on the recumbent bike and then walk around the block which is close to 1/2 mile. After that I will ice and this afternoon will do my other exercises.

I am moving around more and trying to watch my food intake, especially sodium, and the scale showed a small loss yesterday and today. I am feeling motivated to move and eat healthy foods and am optimistic about getting my weight down.

Tomorrow hubby and I will go to congregate dining for lunch and that will be nice, especially not having to cook and clean up afterward. I hope we can go for lunch every day until I go back to work. I tried to talk my husband into Meals on Wheels so I won't have to worry about him cooking while I am gone (he sometimes doesn't light the gas and leaves the room before he notices it didn't light). I might have to get an eletric stove put in so I won't have to worry about that. I was worried about our electric bill going out of sight with warm weather but luckily our weather has been on the cool side and hubby hasn't changed the system over to cool yet. Last summer our electric bills were $200 a month during the hottest months and we really cannot afford that. As soon as my knee is healed enough I will start getting the house ready to sell and the first step is to bring boxes and boxes of items to the thrift store. Since we have so much to get rid of the thrift store will send out a truck and carry the items out for us. Last year my daughter helped me clean the basement and we filled 2 dumpsters and donated about 650 boxes of saleable items. We probably should have a sale for the larger items.

I have just finished 10 minutes on the recumbent bike and will be taking my walk around the block shortly. Temp is about 70 degrees so that should help. I will bring water to drink and cell phone in case I need those. emoticon

Actions speak louder than words. Will be back after I do some exercising. My goal is 10 minutes on recumbent bike and walk around my block with my walker (it is .48 miles around my block and took me about 40 minutes last time). Hope to get around the block in 30 minutes. emoticon

It's Sunday but not ready to sit through a service...

I cannot sit with my legs hanging down for a whole hour as of yet. So even though I could drive there I don't plan to go to church yet as I might have to get up to move around in the middle of the sermon and that would be considered very rude....or worse yet, during the meditation time.....

I managed to go 10 hours without a pain pill yesterday and drove 10 miles round trip and took my husband and me out for early dinner at Culver's where I had a cod sandwich and a small chocolate cone.

However, we made one top on the way home to buy ice (for my knee) and a lottery ticket (I didn't check to see if I won anything yet) and I was extremely uncomfortable by the time I got home and immediately took a pain pill and iced my knee and elevated my legs.

I definitely am not ready to return to work even half time yet (I have 3 more weeks until then) and so I am in agreement with the doctor that I am not ready for work yet. Today I have been icing the knee and warm packing the upper thigh (a painful spider vein popped up) and generally just taking it easy. I am working up to getting on the recumbent bike and doing a few bed exercises for my legs. I am really Jonesing for a dip in the whirlpool at the gym and that probably will be another 3 weeks before I can do that.

As for driving, the main hangup aside from having my legs down is weaning off the pain meds. I checked with the pharmacist and he said 4 to 6 hours and feeling well and not under the influence would be safe for driving. I do need the pain meds for sleep however and tried to sleep through it when awakened at 3:00 a.m. this morn but broke down and had one and a warm pack on my upper leg. I am getting a bit nervous as my supply is very low....definitely will be running out in a few days even if I take only 2 per day. I will have to risk asking for more and wonder what substitute I'll be offered, if any. emoticon
