I am getting the last minute things done. Found I need to be n.p.o. from midnight even though my surgery isn't until 2:45 in the afternoon. I suppose they will put in an iv so I don't dehydrate too much. That's a long time without food or water, but I'm sure I will survive. I usually get up at 4 or 5 in the morning and I will try to sleep in. Perhaps stay up until midnight to get that last snack and beverage in and then won't set alarm. I have to admit I am getting a bit nervous about the surgery, but that is only normal. I remember I was well taken care of last time and even though it is a different hospital, I do have the same surgeon and he did an excellent job and made sure all my items needed (support hose, prescriptions, etc) were supplied. I certainly don't look forward to the first couple of walks after surgery nor the PT. As I recall I usually worked up a sweat trying to bend my knee and was reminded to breathe, breathe, breathe..... I think we hold our breath when we are having difficulty.
My mantra for today and the next week: BREATHE IN THROUGH THE NOSE, OUT THROUGH THE MOUTH..... ETC.
