Followed my plan and went swimming (2 days in a row)..

Sunday, May 02, 2010

I feel pretty loosened up from 1/2 hour in the pool and 1/2 hour in the whirlpool doing exercises.

So glad to report I followed through with my exercise plans this weekend.

Glad to here everything worked out. I wish I had access to a whirlpool. When my brother opens his pool, I will be able to swim. Keep up the good work.

Going swimming today...need to loosen up!!!

Sunday, May 02, 2010

Had a good day yesterday. Went to water aerobics and whirlpooled. Then shopped at Costco, bought gas there (spent my $100 I won and then some). Picked up friend to meet with "the girls" from previous job. There were 6 of us. Had an appetizer for dinner.

I slept pretty well last night and this morning after "sparking" I plan to go to the gym again and swim in the pool andthen whirlpool. I always feel better after exercising.

Walking has been hard and I hope to get answers from the vascular surgeon in about 10 days, a week from Tuesday. Before I see him I will have an ultrasound of my legs and hope nothing too serious is wrong. I really don't want surgery but if that's what it takes to make my legs and feet feel better then I will resign myself to that. For now, I am staying as active as I can without overdoing it.

First the bad news, then the good news....

Saturday, May 01, 2010

I started out yesterday good as I got 10 points on the wheel!!!

Then I got in my car to go to work and a message appeared on the dash, "Tire pressure low." So I inspected the tires and a rear tire was about half out of air. Drove to nearest free air (first one was 75 cents and second one was out of order). As I drove to work, now late, I called in and told supervisor I would be late and probably would need to get the tire looked at. As I neared work I found a place and decided to have the tire fixed, assuming a nail or something similar was in there causing the leak. I figured if I drove to work and let the car sit all day in the ramp, then after work I would have to call a tow truck and all of that would have cost an extra $85 or so just for the tow. So left the car at the shop for the tire repair. Walked 2 blocks to a coffee shop (got out my walker for that which was luckily in my car). Ordered a large coffee and decided to get up to ladies room while it cooled off, but spilled it all over the place (missed my purse by that much!!!). I felt so embarassed and the girls were so nice giving me a replacement....they said it happens every day.

When I got back to my car, they said it was a screw in the tire. Their minimum charge for tire repair is $32.99. Wow, guess I haven't had a tire repair for a really long time...I think last time it was $5. (This sticker shock is probably a sure sign of aging.)

Anyhow I was 2.25 hour late for work and in order to not have an "incident" counted against me in terms of absenteeism, I had to make it up and was the last person in our department when I left at roughly 6:00 p.m. That was a long day.

Now the good news, I decided to check my lottery ticket from powerball on Wednesday and I matched 4 numbers.... I was so excited...I went to the closest SuperAmerica and cashed it in. I won $100. I felt that someone upstairs was watching over me and helped pay for my unfortunate flat tire repair. That really lifted my spirits.

This morning I feel I actually got a good night's sleep and water aerobics starts in 1.5 hours and I will be there with bells on. This afternoon I am having early dinner with 5 gals I used to work with and we will all commisserate about how happy we are we don't have to work there (transcription) any more. Two of us had job injuries (me included) and another was let go because she had a partial hearing loss and has been on unemployment for over a year now and can't find a job. The other gal with hand injury due to the job was let go last week as she is not able to do the job at the correct speed now and has not been able to find a job to transfer to (I was very fortunate to find another job with the same company).

It is 30 days to my birthday...and I will be 64..... emoticon

A bad day in your eyes turned out to be a great day. There usually is something good in all of days. It usually is because of our own perception.
Have a wonderful time at your water aerobics class today.

My mom always said, if you think life is rough, look down the road and someone has it ten times worse!!!! Gotta love Mom's wisdom.....water aerobics is AWESOME, love it, but don't have the time or the money to do it, it's only offered at the YMCA and well that's like $40 a month, and with my hubby not working, that is a luxury that I just can't do....not to mention I work to late to go to it.....by the way great blog, I have those days, and you did well with the day!!!!

More nightmares...restless sleep

Friday, April 30, 2010

Sleep was very restless and I had pain most of the night, mostly the knees and even hips. I kept rolling over and walking around a few minutes at a time because I was so stiff. When I was sleeping I kept having dreams about being unwell and wondering about going to work and being late for work, etc. I hope I sleep better tonight. I plan to go to the whirlpool andswimming pool this evening. I went swimming on Wednesday but didn't make it on Thursday as I had planned and I am sure that would have helped.

My walking speed has been reduced to about 2 miles per hour and I am unsteady on my feet. I definitely am going to lighten my purse and use my cane today (which I really don't want to do, but for today I will). Have to wait 12 days to see the vascular surgeon for ultrasound.

My job went better the last couple days and I was able to do the new "quota" and hopefully that won't be an added stressor for awhile.

I am supposed to keep my legs elevated while working on the computer but that has been hard on my back. I am holding off getting ergonomic evaluation until I see the vascular doctor as he may have some suggestions.

In the meantime I need to be deligent about exercising to keep the blood moving as best as I can.

I think you should use the cane until you see the surgeon and have a better isea of what is going on. I know that you don't feel comfortable the way things are now, but if you don't use caution it may very well be that you can damage things.

I am sorry to hear that your sleep was interrupted. I do hope you have a better night sleep tonight.
I would suggest using your cane as well until you have all the results from your tests back and see the doc. Better to be safe than sorry. emoticon emoticon

I had a restless night, too. I hate it when that happens but have figured out that I might just as well get up and do something rather than just toss and turn in bed. I will plan on napping this afternoon for awhile. I hope that you have a good day!

Nightmares and a funny story about identity....

Thursday, April 29, 2010

I had nightmares about my legs. I won't go into the details but part of the dream was trying to walk to the hospital. It seemed I kept getting lost and I was walking and walking and my legs kept getting worse along the way.

In reality I know where the hospital is and it is only about 2 miles from my house (I think I will drive, also). It is a hospital I haven't been to for about 20 years or more, but I was still in the registration area of the computers. However, it was my previous name (I remarried 10 years ago).

I went to the hospital (the one I work at) about 9 years ago and felt very unwell when they admitted me for asthma and I didn't look at the wrist band (they had put my previous name on it) and my husband called the hospital and asked for me and they said I wasn't there. I remember looking up at the small chalkboard in my room and wondering who Pearson was (it was me). It probably took me about 8 hours to realize my name band was wrong.

Moral of the story: Look at your wristband when you check into a hospital....
