Deleted previous blog...

Sunday, September 07, 2008

About 2-3 weeks ago I wrote a blog saying how happy I was to get a new job after needing to transfer because of having had surgery on both thumbs (joint replacements). After not getting any responses to that blog, I decided to delete it as I got tired of looking on my blog page and seeing that no one commented. Well, tomorrow is the first day on my new job and I am optimistic that it will be a good fit for me within my limitations of not being able to type constantly for 7-1/2 hours a day. My new job should be a lot less stressful physically and mentally and I am thanking God for helping to find me the perfect job for me at this point in my life. It doesn't matter if anyone comments on my blog page, but it would be nice to get a congratulations or two on my new job. I was really down just before I got the good news and was starting to worry that I wouldn't find a job at all. Now I will be with the same company (after 19-1/2 years) and will still get my same vacations and other wonderful benefits that make it a great place to work. I will probably be blogging more often just to process some of the feelings of loss (of the old job and skills) and gratitude for the new job which I am sure will turn out to be a great place to be. emoticon

Sorry to not respond to your previous blog....sometimes I have more on my plate than I know what to do with it...I did read it, but went on a Spark Break after that...and I wasn't really sure how to respond to your problem. It sounds like tings are going well now and I'm so glad for you. Keep up the good work and I'll talk to you later.

Stressin' but blessin'

Thursday, August 07, 2008

Today is my "going away party" at work after 16 years in the same department and 19 in the hospital where I work. Asked for fruit for the treat instead of cake but boss said no way. I guess we know who the boss is there. I am moving on to a position where I don't have to type so much and I appreciate that I am not being kicked out on the street....yet. Apparently I have until Oct 10th before I am sent home to look for work elsewhere. Have an interview to set up and have a transition job that starts next Monday that might become a "real job" after the budget is approved. Apparently things are on hold at this time of year when budgets for departments are being written. I know I will at least have some ice cream at noon and am trying to keep the calories and carbs down as much as possible. Will not let the farewell party get me down. Must be upbeat.... LOL emoticon

I'm sad to hear you are changing jobs. I will be too in a couple weeks. The business I work at is closing due to slow business. Go easy on the ice cream and cake and good luck in your future endevours.

Is cutting my finger an excuse for not swimming?

Sunday, August 03, 2008

I can't believe I was such a klutz. I was preparing a recipe from Spark Recipes, (Sesame Collards) from fresh greens from my garden and chopped a slice in my left second finger about 1/2 inch long and maybe 1/4 inch deep. At least it is not on the tip of the finger as I have to type at work (I do not seem to be having a problem typing right now, also). Not fun and definitely feel like it was carelessness on my part, but just have to chalk it up to being human. I have not had a bad cut like this for 30 years, so at least I am not making a habit of it.

The quandry this poses is I really want to go swimming but am afraid to. I guess I should take at least a couple days off from swimming and whirlpooling at the gym. This should not stop me from getting on the treadmill or pulling weeds, weather permitting. Looks like rain today.

I checked my Powerball ticket this morning and someone in Pennsylvania won the $84 million that I was hoping would allow me to travel the world and pay off my bills. Guess I have to go to work tomorrow. emoticon

Finger is healing nicely and was not as bad of a cut as I had originally thought. Definitely did not need stitches and no infection. Have kept out of swimming pool and whirlpool as precaution. Plan to exercise today on treadmill since I have "taken it easy" this week partly because of cut and also have a lot going on at work this week I am having a meeting regarding work comp issues today and tomorrow the dept I work at is having "going away" party with cake and ice cream. (I asked for fresh fruit or just ice cream treats on a stick and was poo-pooed at, was told no one will come for fruit, which I think is a lie.) I have been in this dept for 16 years and so it is an emotional time having to leave because of the arthritis in my hands and two hand surgeries in the past year which are slow to heal (expected as they were joint replacements in thumbs) and the job is medical transcription which is probably the heaviest duty typing job there is (similar to word processing). Friday is my last day on the job and will be moved to a transitional job which "might" become a real job in the next month or so. emoticon

I did something like that several years ago...I was slicing zucchinis for salad and was going so fast...I sliced the end of mt finger off...had a trip to the emergency room for my efforts.
Probably swimming would not be a great idea and they might not even let you in the pool with a cut. Guess you'll have to resort to the alternatives.

Sorry to hear about your cut. Waiting for a few days before swimming sounds like a good idea.
On the plus side it is good to hear that you have some yummy fresh greens in your garden.

I would let this cut heal before I got it soaked in any type of public water, you don't need an infection or that would really stop you from working out. I think the alternatives you chose should do just fine! Hope your ouchie feels better soon!

Made goal of exercise 3 times this week.

Saturday, August 02, 2008

Love to swim. Tried to download picture of me before snorkeling in the Caribbean last year, but have to resize it. Want to go back but want to get back to 175 before I do. My goal is swimming 1/2 hour and walking 1 hour (3 miles) three times per week. I actually got to the gym three times but didn't quite make it 9 miles because of blisters. But will definitely do it next week.

Taking it a little bit easy...

Thursday, July 31, 2008

My goal was to walk 3 miles three times a week, but today I got another blister (this one on my little toe). I did walk 1-1/2 miles in half hour and swam for1/2 hour. With the blister, I decided I could not tolerate any more pain. I was wearing the same shoes as I did on Tuesday but the wrong socks apparently. I did swim (slowly) for half an hour and whirpooled a while to wind down and massage my back and neck. Eventually I will figure out which socks and shoes to wear so I won't get any more blisters. Hope everyone is having a great evening. emoticon
