Walked 45 minutes today...about 2.5 miles...

Even though I got a slow start this morning I went for a walk and was gone anhour but rested about 15 minutes before coming home. I estimate I walked about 2.5 miles and now I plan to go swimming. I feel much better already. Just have to be sure I don't overdo on the swimming like I did a few weeks ago. I will probably stay in the pool only 1/2 hour this time. I was upset this morning cause I weighed in 2 lb heavier than yesterday but reweighed and it was only 1 lb. I have bought so many scales cause I can't seem to get an accurate one. If anyone reading this blog knows what brand is good, please let me know. My present scale has been adjusted to match my doctor's scale every time I get weighed there and now it is about 5 lb off (of course the wrong way!). emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

    Do you have a gym or a chemist nearby? the best scales to use are the calibrated kind .. I am not worrying about my actual weight so much as cms lost !! have a wonderful day!! you are doing well .. I love the pool I exercise in the pool doing running in the water, walking up and down. sideways , using the resistance of the water .. it makes me feel great !! emoticon emoticon emoticon

    The best scale is the type your doctor has. They are pricey though. My Omron Body Annalysis scale is very accurate and measures weight and several other health factors. $85 through Amazon.com.

    I just try to weigh myself on the same scale each time at around the same time of day. I watch for the trend hopefully going down as opposed to focusing on one number. I don't weigh to often because I tend to get obsessed with it.

    I know that my weight will fluctuate during the day by a couple of lbs. I try and weight first thing in the morning before I drink or eat anything. I have noticed that if I feel like I have water weight gain (maybe from to much salt the day before) that after I am up and going for a while and weigh again, the excess lbs. will have gone back down some. That could have been what happened to you this morning. The walk took some of the excess water weight off.

    I have bought 4 different scales and I like the weight watchers best. The others broke after about 1-3 months of use. My weight is never with the doctor's scales. His is always about 4 pounds heavier. I just count what is on my scales and weigh in once a week. No matter if I have some edema and gained I still take the weight on Saturday.

So glad Monday is a day off.... I might have overdone shopping, etc yesterday and am feeling funky and achey. At this point 7:15 a.m. I am waiting for the pool to open at 9:00 so I can swim and do water exercises. I will even get on the stationary bike for 15 minutes or so to loosen up the knee first. It is so easy to skimp on the exercises and I know I need to keep working on that new knee replacement to get it to as normal as possible. Have to "kick myself in the a$$" and make myself do what I am supposed to do.

    Like I have said before, you are one tough lady. You are doing what you need to do to get that knee healthy again. I don't know if I could work through the pain as I know you have had to do. Keep up the good work and you will get there.

Enjoy, rest and collage this afternoon if you can.
Just rip out pictures of you in a Sunny Sunday Place and go for it.

Track your food, mix in some fun and enjoy the day.

Gotta go see surgeon re: knee replacement results

Don't know if my knee is really good, as I have had extreme numbness on one side and stiffness. Talked to nurse a couple of weeks ago and she thought it sounded okay. Apparenlty I don't have infection but will feel reassured after I see the doctor again. Keeping up with the PT exercises is difficult but I know is necessary. In fact, gotta go do some stretches right now....

    Numbness and stiffness is part of the healing - at least it was with mine. Of course the latest surgery has a lot of numbness but my other knee still has numb spots from last year. I think there will always be a bit of numbness or weird nerve feelings in a surgical site. Nerves and muscles are cut and they donít go back together the same way again so the sensation has to change. Hang in there as your knee will get better. It will be some years before you feel the knee actually belongs to you again.

    Just keep plugging away and doing what the docs tell you to do. Those knee surgeries can take a long time to fully recover from. I think you are doing a remarkable job with your therapy.
Is the swimming helping it? I'd say swimming that early in the morning probably loosens it up good for the rest of the day.

    At the cost of a knee replacement, you'd better make certain it works right! Make a list of your concerns before you go to the doctor. Make certain you get your answers. Don't be shy!

Feeling tired and worn out....

Dealing with my arthritis and recent knee replacement surgery and going back to work full time (from half time) seems to have me feeling extremely tired. I got up at 4:30 to go swimming and I might not have gotten enough sleep.....(more than likely). Guess I will just have to go to bed early tonight, like about 8:00.... emoticon

    Hang in there. You are doing great. I agree, write down your concerns to discuss with the doctor. Get your rest too.

    Are you eating within your guidelines to reflect both your increased workload and activity? Sleep is restorative, it will help with your recovery!

Avoid the snoozebar olympics - which is probably one of my biggest vices and challenges! (i.e hitting snooze multiple times after your initial alarm sounds in the morning)

    Wow! Hats off to you for your dedication but make sure you do get enough rest. When I am rested I feel that I can do more of everything. Be okay with the idea that for a short time you may not be able to do as much as you did last week. Your stamina will build if you give it a chance.

    I agree you need to get more rest. Returning to work even after about 1 week off is tiresome. Think of yourself and make sure you are eating right.

    It takes a lot out of you when you have had a RKR. You are working, exercising and living. That is a lot to have on your plate. Your body is telling you that it needs to rest and sleep os it can heal. Take it from one who has been there 4 times.

    There is not enough sleep in the world to prepare me to get up at 4:30 in the morning to go swimming and then go to work. If you can do that, my hat is off to you. You are definitely one tough lady!
