Disturbing cold and cough...etc.

Saturday, February 02, 2013

I saw my internist on Thursday and Strep culture was negative. Dr. did give me Rx for cough syrup to help with sleep (cough is waking me up at night) and she said I could use it at work as there is a minimal amount of codeine in 5 ml (1tsp). She also gave me a handwritten 'script for an antibiotic in case my sinus symptoms worsen.

Dry foods hurt to swallow so have been limiting my food intake to foods high in water content. Apples are good, especially if cooked and peeled.

Hopefully a three day weekend (I got Monday off) will also help me get better.

I have a pretty contant sinus headache which I am going to see if my face steamer (from garage sale for $2) will help. I also am going to try my netipot with himalayan salt which has been helpful in the past.

Dr. said it is probably a virus which seems to be going around. At work we have quite a few people with similar symptoms. I hear a lot of sneezing and coughing there.

Wedding dress saga continues...

Friday, February 01, 2013

First one did not fit but ordered another in the next size but different style. Daughter likes the just below the knee dresses as they are having an outdoor wedding. Hope the second one fits perfectly.

Need to add that my new low weight is staying steady. I even reset the digital scale to be sure it is weighing correctly. Would love to lose at least 25 lbs by September, especially since everyone will be staying at the hot springs for 3 days of which the bulk of the time will be in bathing suits! No matter what I weigh, I will be one of the first to take the plunge. My favorite activities at the gym are swimming and whirlpooling. I have not, however, been to a natural hot springs before and have been assured that it is WONDERFUL! emoticon

wonderful and here is hoping that the next dress fits perfdect.
I am with you about the water, but my dr told me today, no more swimming, for quite a while, my last ear infection left a big hole in my ear drum, so I even have to use a hair dryer when I take a shower, (in my ear) weird huh oh well, what ever works,

Just picked up your blog from the Apnea Team listing. It made me smile. Last year two of my sons got married and it inspired my signing up for Spark. One wedding was in May; the other in August, at a lake!!! It really helped me keep on track and so far I've been maintaining. Something about looking great on a wedding day is motivating. Anyway, I wish you the best and hope you feel like a queen the day your daughter gets married!

And what I like best is that you will be first in the water no matter what you weigh. I'm so with you on that and I admire your attitude!

ordered a wedding dress ...

Sunday, January 27, 2013

For my daughter's fall wedding. She picked it out on line. I hope it fits with little altering needed.

She said she had to end all the well intentioned suggestions from family and friends.

I can tell she is getting excited. Her fiance' is really a great guy. They have dated for about 5 years. They are both 37 and this is the first wedding for both of them.

I am nervous about being "the mother of the bride" and the only guest from her side of the family. I am glad the wedding is casual. We will spend 3 days at a hot springs in the state where she lives. Before and after the ceremony there will be a lot of sitting in the hot springs which sounds like heaven to me.

Slow and steady wins the race....

Monday, January 14, 2013

Since a year ago I have lost about 11 pounds.

This month I have lost about 3 pounds so far. I am really watching portion size and avoiding fried foods, espcially in restaurants. (I asked at a couple of fast food places what kind of oil they used for the fries and did not get specific information. One place said "vegetable oil." I have a sensitivity to cottonseed oil and found that some restaurants stretch out their olive oil by adding cottonseed oil to reduce the cost.

The other thing in addition to unwanted fats is avoiding salty foods as I tend to retain fluid, especially in my legs, ankles and feet If you find a chart (on line or at the restaurant) the tells the amount of sodium it puts my food into the high sodium range with even one serving of fries or just about anything else other than sweets. And then there is the high sugar content of the smoothies they have in restaurants.

I have bought a Ninja machine and make my own smoothies at home and add things like powdered kelp (use sparingly), powdered parsely, rice protein, stevia and fresh fruits.
