High blood pressure...ER visit..etc

Saturday, September 01, 2012

Went to podiatrist and before he saw me the nurse took my blood pressure twice...first 180/122 and then 169/105. Was told to go to ER where after six hours of mostly waiting was sent to telemetry unit and stayed overnight. Next morning had chemical stress test. 5 hours later was given results (negative) and was allow to eat something.

I was given diuretic (HCTZ) and told to see my internist in about a week.

I was advised to eat a "heart healthy diet" (cardiac diet) and hav e low sodium and high potassium intake.

I feel fine (though hypertension often does not have any symptoms) but this morning I got another high reading of 163/100 (after arguing with husband about which blood pressure machine to use)....

I am not sure if that was an accurate reading and might go to the Walgreen's store to get a recheck.

So the bottom line is that I have high blood pressure (which I only had during pregnancy in 1973) and am wondering what all they are going to advise me to do about it.

The hospitalist (admitting dr who I have never seen before) said I needed to lose weight and exercise more and take a second diuretic prescription.

I hope that helps but will be more reassured after my internist runs a few more blood tests on me to check out a few other possibilities.

With the two additional medications they gave me I think my medication list is up to about 15 prescriptions, not counting the over-the-counter medicines I take.

Should make the drug dealers (pharmacists) happy! emoticon

I personally find that any caffeine I indulge in ups my bp also. I have had to learn to reduce it as I can. If I have been caffeine free for awhile, then a day or two on it, I particularly notice the difference. I didn't know before a small amount would do it to me; but it raises my diastolic (bottom) number up to 100, even on Meds. Good luck with your bp. Keep on it.

High Blood Pressure is very serious, but I know about the different medicines,
honest after I joined sparks and a gym and started walking and lost 15 pounds, but I have gained 10 of them back, I only take 1 blood pressure, and medicine for my stomach, I got rid of 3 other kinds, so I know that exercise is really important, my blood pressure is higher than it was for awhile, but still under control with my medication, take care of yourself

High blood pressure is deadly! Women used to die of heart attacks all the time in their 60s. With modern medication that is no longer the death sentence it used to be, but you have to take it seriously. Hypertension kills. Please get to the doctor! Medication can save your life!

pollen count has me sneezing....

Monday, August 13, 2012

and when I sneeze it hurts....

Over the weekend the pollen counts in our area (Minneapolis, MN) were in the red zone, nearly 10 on a scale of 1 to 10. They are probably just as high today as I have already had a couple super sneezes and have a sinus congestion headache...

Hope the systems are work at going full blast. (Hope they have a filter for the outside air coming in, but it is a huge building and would imagine that was retrofitted when they remodeled this 1929 buildig about 10 years ago.

Kirty-choo!!! emoticon

Mowed only 1/2 hour today..

Saturday, August 11, 2012

Got the broken mower back (cost $98 for a tune-up) and though I only spent 1/2 hour out there it was a good workout. Had to finish the job I started last week.

Phew!!! emoticon

Luckily I insisted on mowing yesterday. I don't know why my husband didn't want me to mow but I knew better this time. And then it rained today so it was a good thing I did it yesterday. emoticon

A "new tongue twister"....

Tuesday, August 07, 2012

So I ran across an address on Wood Duck Trail in Excelsior, MN and what went through my head?

How much wood would a wood duck duck
If a wood duck would duck wood.

I got a few laughs from coworkers but daughter said it made her "die a little."

I still like it...

Slept 10 hours last night...

Sunday, July 29, 2012

At this point I can recommend ZZZquil. It is working for me. I did not check with my doctor first but I don't think it is anything dangerous as the package says non-habit forming. But to be on the safe side I will check with my pharmacy and clinic. Until then I will try sleeping without it. emoticon

From the same company that makes Nyquil. I just pop a melatonin when I need some assistance in this area. Or watch a political debate...

never heard of it, but if it works and all can't see the harm in it, but I have let myself rely on fiber capsules for so long, that I have to take them, so, beware of that, it seems like I have not had trouble sleeping for about 3 months now, not sure, must have been the stress that was in my life the first 4 months of the year. I just never got a good nights sleep. and it is so important
